Strange Night In The Woods

A listener writes “My husband and I had an encounter with something large in the woods of Southern Missouri on June 2nd of this year.

In the afternoon I heard a huge tree fall in the woods in the direction of the river about 5 minutes after my husband left me at the camp to walk down to the water. About 30 seconds to a minute after the crash I heard 3 tree knocks, a pause and then 3 more with the same pattern on the opposite side of the river. A couple of times we heard snorts that sounded like wild hogs but never saw anything.

I had gone to the tent around 10:30pm. My husband stayed around the campfire until around midnight. He went into the road after putting out the tiki torches and fire and heard a growling. He is not one to be freaked out by noises and such but he was a little unnerved by it. He got into the tent and told me about it. We talked for a couple minutes before saying good night. Less than 5 minutes after we stopped talking we both heard rustling in the leaves from a distance, we both lifted our heads and listened intently as the footsteps came closer. We both agree the footsteps were heavy.

I have hunted in the woods before and it was not a deer. I would describe the sound as walking in the woods with boots on. My initial thought was maybe this is The man we rented the camping site from messing with us and it’s part of the experience, but then realized he would be stupid to do that for fear of being shot. Bigfoot never crossed my mind. I was frozen in fear!

It walked directly behind our tent. Probably within 3 ft of our heads. It sounded like it walked around the campfire ring and then off into the woods toward the water. We were absolutely silent while it was in the camp. As soon as we realized it had walked away, I began shaking uncontrollably! I have never felt fear like that and have never reacted to fear that way. My husband was trying to reassure me when we heard it returning about 2 minutes later. I grabbed the key fab to our van and hit the lock button so the lights would light up and hopefully scare away whatever it was. I did that 4 times and it walked off into the woods on the other side of the road behind our tent. We heard what sounded like a fight going on between two animals in that direction and I hit the lights again a couple times and the noises stopped.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep in the tent anymore so we moved into our van for the rest of the night. I didn’t look for Bigfoot signs becauseagain Bigfoot didn’t cross my mind until we got home that evening and we honestly thought it was probably a bobcat, but after looking at pictures of bobcats we both agree a bobcat wouldn’t be big enough to make the sounds we heard. My husband has never been a believer in Bigfoot. I have been a believer for years but have never had an experience like this.

I played several videos of animal sounds for him trying to identify the growl he heard. He said no to everything except supposed Bigfoot growl. He said that is very close to what he heard. In the same video of the growl you can hear footsteps of the creature and they sound almost identical to the steps we heard that night.”

Remember about three years ago while bow hunting elk . We were all asleep, it was about 4/30 in the morning. When I had a scratching noise on my Montana canvas tent right exactly starting at my head. My tent is 10’x 12’ . The scratching went in a half moon angle going horizontally from my head to the other end of the tent. I looked at my watch seeing that it was 4:30am. I yelled out (thinking it was my buddy ryan) . It’s 4:30 Ryan go back to bed we’ll leave at 5;30 all the sudden a growl between my tent and my other hunting partner Robert ‘s tent I immediately grab my A.R. 15 racked in aload in jumped out of my tent and whatever was there and ran into the woods I have found footprints behind camp before it’s has been itched in my memories ever sense.

Another classis tale of a bigfoot entering the camp to nose around, maybe find some food. Why they want to come close to tents and even run their fingers and hands on a tent, I do not understand. Maybe it is just a game to them for they know they can bug out of camp much faster than the little people can exit a tent. Maybe they get a kick out of scaring the little people and to them this is just a prank. A curious sort they are.

Strange night in the woods

A listener writes “This last Dec. 2017, a group of friends and I went out to the Appalachian Trail for the weekend for one of my best friends birthday.

We were pretty much the only 4 people sleeping over night in the back country during that time. It was cold, snowy, and not ideal camping weather but we like a challenge (myself and my birthday boy are Marines).

We were pretty high up. Went all the way up to rocky top and even played cards up there haha Everything was great. It was beautiful.

Jumping to our last night. Before the sun went down we gathered wood and water. To get water it was about 200-250 yard down an icy hill. As I was getting my water I had that uneasy feeling. You know the one, where it feels like you’re being watch. So we finally fall asleep in our shelter (3 walls with a tarp in front) in our hammocks.

That night something strange happened. Coyotes started howling around 1-130 in the morning. I remember the time cause I looked at my watch. Everyone woke up, we thought it was cool. Was the only sign of wildlife we had all weekend. Everyone fell back asleep and I stayed awake listening. Then out of nowhere the coyotes just stopped. Then I head what sounded like a log or something heavy and dense being dragged up the hill we were on. I was freaked out. So many things running through my mind. I peek out of me sleeping back and I dont see any flashlight or anything. Freaked me out even more. The sound stops at our camp.

Now I have to pee. But I dont want to obviously. I wait a while till I just couldn’t wait any longer. This is when things get even more strange. I’m relieving myself and as I look off in the distance I see 2 orange lights. And I remember the first thing that came to my mind was “street lights”. Then it hit me…I’m 4-5 thousand feet up in the back country of the Appalachian Trail. The lights were about 100 yds away, off the beaten path, and not moving. Very strange.

The next morning, one of our friends woke everyone up with the question “what’s this metal box out here” then everything started coming back to me as far as the dragging sound. Wes that box wasnt there the evening before. We did a 360 around our shelter for fire wood and one of us would’ve noticed it. It was old, rusty, and had a pad lock on it. We later found out once we got off the mountain that it was a bear box to keep your food in. But they dont use those anymore, they have pullies to lift your food bag into the trees.”

I wish you would be on the show! This encounter had so many elements with the lights as well. Very interesting encounter but did you discuss what you experienced with your buddies?

    Well.

You said you get some strange ones all the time. But, this one has to set some kind of strange record. I hope he’s agreed to come on the show. My first question is, did ya’ll open the box? Second would be, ‘what’ was in that box?

    Wow.

Sounds to me as if the Biggin Foot wanted the campers to fill his lunch box with food. Seems it’s been sometime since any of the campers were accommodating to the Big Boy! The lights are seekers, that locate humans for ……., who knows. I think that the Bigfoot can tell someone’s around pretty easy on their own. The lights could be inter dimensional, from outer space/aliens or spirits of some kind. Are the lights related to any creatures in the woods, who knows. We need to apply for a gov’t grant to find the meaning of the lights and find a Bigfoot. I’m sure that’ll be as easy as going to the moon. Speaking of the moon: Tom, get me a Snapple!

That is a strange encounter! Yea I would be love to know what was in the box if anything!! and why would something bring it to the campers? To give to them? To get them to put food in it? I would love to know which state this happened in as I live in NC close to the mountains.

Nice report but where in the Appalachians? Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina, and northern Alabama, or Georgia?
