Strange Night In The Cabin

A listener writes “It was in December 1979 and I was home on Christmas break after completing basic training in the Army. I was going home in South Carolina for about three weeks, then return to Ft McClellan Alabama for Military Police training.

Once home, two of my friends talked me into spending the night in an old fishing cabin that was adjacent to a creek that was about two miles in the woods from my mothers home. The only way to the cabin was down a narrow overgrown road about a half a mile long off a two lane secondary road. The cabin was very small and I had never been there before. We walked the entire way. The cabin was only about 100 square feet and the only door was facing the creek. There was a ramp that went on the side of the cabin, turned left onto a small porch that jettisoned over the creek a couple feet. From the porch to the creek water was probably a six to seven foot drop.

It had no windows and no furniture of any kind. All three of us were armed with shotguns. Another thing I remember about that night was it was freezing cold. Both my friends had good sleeping bags (mummy) while I had a kids sleeping with Cartoon characters on it. Needless to say I was miserable. Long about midnight was buddies were fast asleep and I was trying to get warm. As I laid there I began to here footstep coming from the woods crunching on the leaves. It didn’t take me long to realize whatever it was was walking on two feet. It walked right up to the back of the cabin and stopped as if it was listening to see if it heard anything inside. I froze not moving or even breathing. It was then the odor hit me. It smelled of severe body odor and stagnant water. My heart was about to pop out of my chest and I was sure it could hear it beating. After about 30 seconds it began to walk again. It started up the ramp slowly and I’m thinking, “Its going for the door” I had a single shot 12 ga, and was thinking if it opens that door I’m going to shoot. As it continued up the ramp I pointed the gun at the door and pulled the hammer back slowly. Well what ever it was must have heard me cock the hammer because it jumped off the ramp into the icy cold creek water and swim down stream till I could not hear it anymore. I never woke my friends up and I didn’t get any sleep that night. I told them about it the next morning but they laughed it off. I was 20 years old when that happened and I’m 60 now. I’ll never forget it.”

These creatures’ superhuman abilities (strength, speed, agility, hearing acuity, etc.) are fantastic! And, on top of that, who knew at the time that a shotgun probably wouldn’t have helped if needed?

It amazes me that these beings can hear a gun being cocked inside a building and decide to not take the chance of being wounded by a person ( because we all know that a shotgun or any other type of weapon isn’t going to kill them, maybe just piss ’em off…) and take off. Sounds like a very interesting encounter and I can’t wait to hear his side of it ! Thanks Wes, hope you enjoyed your weekend!
