Strange Familiars: The Kapre

Tim writes “Ira relates a tale of life in remote tribal lands on an island in the Philippines – of living with the locals, learning their customs and languages, and working alongside them. After a ceremony with the tribal shaman, their worksite was visited by a tall, hairy, entity known locally as the Kapre – the guardian of the forest. Is the Kapre what we would call a bigfoot”?”

Back in the day, The team guys used to train with the Neagretoe’s, I sure it’s misspelled but sounds like that, Mendinau and another southern island with mountains Forrested areas the Neagreto people very tiny and dark skin tracker Hunter type stealthy saw a drawing a seal had of Sasquatch and called out name, and said they live there. All know is the guys said there was no way until he said there pine trees deep in the Forrest bigger then any he had seen in the states and he was from WA. The Naegretoe explained you can’t hunt them ect, said the Females sit trees while males hunt you, and that old males sit in the big trees that can support them for a short time by supporting themselves with a grip on other branches or the tree. They can make wounded monkey calls, to bait monkeys when hunting. Never mentioned the other traits associated with Sasquatch tree knocks or whoops. He did say they were men though didn’t call them monkey at all. FYI

Fantastic story. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this gentleman narrate his experience. Sasquatch seems to be everywhere. Thanks Wes for giving us this opportunity to hear this.

EXCELLENT episode – might be the most fascinating true story I’ve heard all year. The depth of cultural knowledge this guest shared about a culture I had never even heard of, his mastery of their way of speaking and thinking, and the incredibly difficult task he took on to clear a large plot of land in dense mountain wilderness without electricity- and in strict accordance with the local spirits and shamen – was spell-binding. Every detail was appreciated, including the fact that these people refer to their birth as “when I became human.” The Kapre beast and it’s similarity to the Sasquatch was also fascinating. Bravo to all involved, and thank you!
