Strange experience at my families cabin

A listener writes “My family owned a cabin in Missouri, south east of AVA. Think of the schoolhouse on Little house on the Prairie but about 4x the size. My grandfather actually went to school there and would swim in the creek at recess. I bring that up only to say that it close family ties for a very long time.

In the 1980’s my uncles witnessed a “ball of light” between 1 & 3 am. It was pale blue in color and about the size of a volleyball. It came in at the west end of the cabin, floated like a balloon on a string roughly 10ft off the floor and disappeared into the east wall. They described it as having a very faint sizzle sound, produced no heat and glowed just bright enough to produce shadows of the furniture on the floor.

We talked to the local families and met a few people at the Souder General Store who called it Ball Lightning or St Elmo’s Fire. It was more frequent in the spring and fall if I remember correctly. It was so prominent that some of the locals thought the schoolhouse was haunted and wouldn’t go inside even if we were there. The light was bright enough that it could be seen through the windows while passing on the road.

The area under and around the cabin has many tiny caves and cracks in the bedrock and we were told the ball lighting was the result of a static discharge from the caves. True or not, I don’t know.”

That is certainly interesting, seeing those lights. Comparing experiences, I saw a brilliant orb once. It was between the size of a softball and a volleyball. It was very very shiney, perfectly round, and full of sparkle like one of the hand held sparklers we used to play with as kids on the fourth of July. It was in the yard and came from behind where my father in law (we called him Grandpa most of the time as he was our kids’ grandpa) was seated in a lawn chair in the dark. He had just heard his son was killed in a car accident (my brother in-law), and had left his chair when my husband and I arrived at the house, being called at 2 am to come over..just hearing the bad news. I believe it was spirit come to console Grandpa and when he left the yard to go in the house it took of, streaking across the yard. Nobody else saw it. Grandpa didn’t see it and neither did my husband. Just me, like usual. So I’ve always considered orbs spirit, that’s what I think they are.
I wonder if there are any unmarked graves or if the cabin in this story is located near one of the Missouri civil war battlefields. I’ll have to look up AVA in Missouri. I don’t know where that’s at. I did see a ghost at a battlefield in Missouri once, it was a flash premonition thing like a vision I saw as we left the area. Thank you Wes. Wouldn’t you just love to have a cabin like this one? Minus the spirits or orbs of course? 🙂

I did a little research and Ava, Missouri used to be known as Militia Creek, Missouri. The second battle of the civil war was fought about an hour from there, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. I wonder if the orbs are civil war spirits.

Some good research Linda B. It is some history I had not known about. My Father and his ancestors dating to the earlier part of the 1800s had farms in and around Ava, MO, smake dab in the Missouri Ozarks. I do know some were Confederate sympathizers at the least. It is quite possible some fought in this battle. My Father and 4 Uncles all moved to Midland, Michigan to work at Dow Chemical in the late 1930s and early 1940s and 2 siblings and my Grandparents and Great Aunt and Uncles stayed behind in Ava, so I still have a few cousins there. My Aunt Lorene and I would write letters to each other at Christmas time until her death in Jan. of 2016 which I attended. I use to include in my letter close by Missour Ozark Bigfoot encounters, usually from the BFRO. My cousins at her funeral told me she really enjoyed the letters and Bigfoot stories. It is quite possible my Father and siblings attended that same small schoolhouse and may have know the listeners Grandfather. My Father talked some about going to a small schoolhouse, and maybe he swam in the same creek where he learned to swim when his older brothers threw him in and said sink or swim. Back then they use to sometimes carry guns to school on their long walk to school to shoot game. A couple times my Great Aunt Molly from Ava (who moved to Midland when her Daughter married my Uncle Luther) baby sat for us a few days at a time. Back in the 60s, myself and sisters always played outside. Aunt Molly would tell us to come home when the street lights came on or the Booger Man would get you. Us kids thought this was nonsense and funny. Of course this is an Ozark and other Southern areas term for the Bigfoot which I did not know until 2008. I do not know what she knew down in the Ozarks, as I never heard any tales of such a creature from anyone else.

On another note, I too have seen an orb, only once. The 3rd Thursday in July of 1995. My good friend was driving his truck, me in passenger, seat north on the I-75 just north of Grayling, Michigan about 8 30 at night. The cans in the bed of his truck started to rattle. I turned to look and there was a whitish orb about the size of a large Grapefruit no more than 2 feet from my face, separated by the window of course. It was just hanging there in mid air while we were traveling in excess of 75 mph. I told my friend Rick, you ain’t gonna believe this, turn around. As he turned it shot straight up into the sky in a blink of an eye and out of sight and thus did not see it to confirm to our other softball team members traveling in other vehicles, just like what happened to you – no one to comfirm – bummer. I can agree with you that yours could very well be a spirit of Granpa’s son. Mine was more fuzzy and not brilliant like yours. I have always thought mine was just another surveillance UFO orb due to the numerous, what I think are Alien events, that had happened in my life from the time I was in a crib, until age 40. However the very next night at about the same time in Curtis Michigan of the Upper Penninsula, I sat down next to the woman I would end up marrying so there is that.

Hey Linda! Yes. That could be it, couldn’t it? I used to not believe in that sort of thing. I do believe there are people who get stuck between worlds. Loretta Lunn’s place was so full of civil war spirits, even she, her daughter, and son in law didn’t go out at night on that property. After Lorretta’s husbands passed away, she had another house built, house down the road from the main property, I think she said. She couldn’t tolerate the spooks just showing up in the hall, on the porch, on the “battlefield”. The constant creaking in the hall was unnerving. Not sure if they were so bold when her husband was there. Anyway, interesting. Plus, this is exactly the area we want to move to once he retires. 🙂

Wes, Linda B, Charles and M99,
Thank you for all the info and encounters! I’m comfortable saying I believe I’ve seen these orbs myself and also heard of them from others in WI as well. They must be pretty common all over by the sounds of it.

For anyone who hasn’t seen one these things, they are really fascinating. Much like a Sasquatch encounter the experiences can be good, bad and everything in between… but also like Sasquatch encounters I’ve had as well, I’m really perplexed as to knowing exactly what, where or who these things are or where they’re originating from… I have reason to believe it’s different sources but have no proof… of course:)

In one instance I personally had, I believe I witnessed with confidence 2 light gold colored orbs zip towards my trail camera while hunting and I later discovered that evening I had no trail camera pics on the SD card and only about 40 corrupted folders that weren’t previously on the card… they were labeled with odd symbols instead of actual English words or letters and showed they held information, but they looked empty when I opened them… I had never had that happen to a card or camera before or since (this was just this past fall). The same card worked fine again after reformatting it, but before deleting everything I did manage to screenshot several of the folders as evidence if it turned out to be something weird or something someone reported later… I could have their back as a witness then.

Then there was the time I saw what I confidently believed to be a Sasquatch, it was only the width of a car lane between us… that one had what looked to be a small bright blueish light or orb about the size of a Roosevelt dime near the crook of its right arm… honest to Gods truth. That was like two weirds in one lol.
