Star Spangled Banner As You’ve Never Heard It

Memorial Day, a federal holiday held the last Monday in May, is the nation’s foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women. Originally called Decoration Day, it was formalized by a “Memorial Day Order” issued by Grand Army of the Republic Commander-in-Chief John A. Logan in 1868.

Thanks for this Avila. I was wondering who narrated this remarkable and patriotic piece. Gary Sinise is a true patriot and so much charitable work for our troups and wounded soldiers.

The bombardment of Fort McHenry was in response of the day before when crack British Troops who had defeated Napolean in the Spring of 1814, got defeated and withdrew ground troops in the Battle of Baltimore and lost a General in that fight. One month before the British had captured Washinton DC and burned the Whitehouse and other buildings and all the citizens fled, including President James Madison. Thank God that famous first lady Dolley Madison saved the portrait of Geoge Washington. Then they moved on towards Baltimore as it was a more important city and port city.
Realizing they were not going to take Baltimore the British sailed off to New Orleans, hoping to capture that city and thus the Mississippi River and land that Thomas Jefferson had purchased during the Lousisiana Purchase. However Andy Jackson had one hell of a surprise for them in January.
