SC EP:332 Dr. John Bindernagel

I have been posting John’s videos to the website every chance I get.

John writes “As a wildlife biologist, I have been studying the sasquatch (or bigfoot) for just over 50 years. For the past 25 years, the main subject of my wildlife research has been the scrutiny of evidence which appears to affirm the sasquatch as an existing mammal. During this period, I found this evidence to be not only compelling, but eventually conclusive in supporting the sasquatch as an existing North American mammal.”

John A. Bindernagel is a wildlife biologist who has sought evidence for Bigfoot since 1963. He published a book in 1998 entitled North America’s Great Ape: the Sasquatch.

Dr. Bindernagel grew up in Ontario, attended the University of Guelph, and received a PhD in Biology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He moved to British Columbia in 1975 largely because the region was a hot spot for Bigfoot sightings. Over the years, he has collected casts of tracks that he believes belongs to Bigfoot. He also claims to have heard the creature near Comox Lake in 1992, comparing its whooping sound to that of a chimpanzee. Dr. Bindernagel believes that the Bigfoot phenomena should receive more attention from serious scientists, but has remarked, “The evidence doesn’t get scrutinized objectively. We can’t bring the evidence to our colleagues because it’s perceived as tabloid.”

So glad to see people like John studying Sasquatch . John talks about some very compelling evidence , you have to love his common sense approach to understanding how serious Sasquatch study has been easily derailed across the world . He views evidence thru a different lense than most researchers and backs his findings with good solid common sense , knowledge and fact .

As illusive as sasquatch is, it has to be next to impossible to do a real research on these creatures. Jane Goodall was able to do research on gorillas from afar then close once the gorillas accepted her presence. These sasquatch know you’re there before you know they’re there, so how could anyone do any real research? So when people like John are putting in so much of their own time to research these mysterious creatures it make me hopeful that someday we’ll know more about them and science will acknowledge them as well.

Does anyone know what episode # is where this rancher was paying anyone a $5000 bounty to kill a cougar that was killing his cattle? This teenager took him up on the deal and while hunting this cougar he ran into a sasquatch? It’s a recent episode however I didn’t finish listening to it and forgot the episode #. Thanx in advance to whoever helps me.

I am about to listen. Thank you Wes and thank you Dr Bindernagel. I have a degree in wildlife biology. I believe in evolution but that we dont quite understand it fully/ correctly. My background is herpetology. My question is does the variance we see in these creatures ( aka chimp like, ape like, human like) denote recent evolution like we see in Squamata species or is it an earlier creature most modern great apes branched from?

Wasn’t dr John on the history channel or something, I recognise the voice, a great guy and if he says their are there ,they are there I found him very informative educational and fascinating to listen to , glad he’s on the show

Thank you for the informative interview, Doctor. You are kind, affable, and knowledgeable.
Wes – you constantly surprise me with your natural aptitude as host and interviewer. You have a penchant for making guests comfortable on-air, an inquisitive mind, a knack for asking poinient questions, and the intuition to know when to step back and let the guests speak.
I also respect you for allowing us to provide constructive feedback. The longer you do this, the better you get.
It is nice to hear from “real scientists” who study these beings. (I would love to hear Dr. Melba Ketchum, but she has stepped back from interviews for the time being – due in large part from people like Jeff Meldrum twisting her words, making fun of her beliefs, and trashing her science – which is rich as SHE IS A DVM while he is a PhD. Sexism and sour grapes.)
    Well done.
    Thank you!

thanks Wes! Awesome job Dr. Bindernagel. John With your educating the world, people will become more accepting of the evidence and reality of Sasquatch. Thank You. Jack McCarty

Touche ! ( In My Mature voice ) The Inability to Laugh at Oneself is a Strong Sign of Social Retardation. And on a Site dedicated To a ” Monster ” that is to This Day not recognized by Academia , Or Main Stream Science No Less !
    Tsk ! Tsk ! Tsk ! Tsk ! Tsk !

I Love Dr. Bindernagle ! He Exudes enthusiasm ! ( I Would Subscribe to a Show just To Listen To Him Speak ! )
    Great Episode !

I just saw a documentary that stated scientists are discovering dozens of new species of animals every day in the forests of the world, especially in the tropical jungles. I also know that there are places in the Pacific Northwest where man has never been, it’s so vast!

So why would it be a stigma, therefore, for a legitimate scientist to try to track down ANY new species, Bigfoot included, especially when so many people have claimed to have seen them???

This is a sad state of affairs and tells me someone doesn’t WANT us to know about it, but why?

If there is anything I want scientists to do is investigate these claims from people who are well-acquainted with the woods, hunting, and the known documented species that are out there and are not making this stuff up. There should be no ramifications about them losing their jobs for simply looking into this subject.

I think John Bindernagel steers away from mindspeak, Dogman, because it has the tendency to discredit a scientist EVEN more, though off record I’m sure he’d acknowledge Dogman.

They just found a new species called the Asian Unicorn about ten years ago in Vietnam. Imagine someone trying to describe this creature to someone who has never seen it, they’d think you were high or drunk. So why do people always try to categorize something they know nothing about? I’ve heard people say sasquatch “it’s part nephelim, it’s part neanderthal” with such certainty yet no one has any proof. Why couldn’t the sasquatch be something we’ve never known? A completely new species all together.

Outstanding interview Wes. Dr. John Bindernagel is one of the founding fathers of scientific research into Sasquatch. His knowledge and methods has brought a lot of validity to why academia should pursue the study of this species in a serous way. He has been an ever present advocate for the scientific research of this species and who’s work should be a blueprint for those to follow. Thank you John!

Great job interviewing Dr B. Wes! He is one of my favorites. I love his enthusiasm for the study of sasquatch and I pray his health is doing OK. So good to hear him on your show. Really enjoyed tonight!

  13. Peggy P

What a great episode, Wes! So happy to hear from John. He is such an amazing guy with such passion on the subject of Sasquatch. I love to hear the mutual respect. 🙂

The Sasquatch fishing was pretty intriguing. John talked about studying Sasquatch food sources . An interesting note on animal food sources . I once shot a large whitetail buck that had been eating snails out of river bottoms . Stomach full of snails , that was kinda surprising to me to find that .

  15. Doug S

Great interview! I have to admit I didn’t know he was involved with the Erikson project. I thought the whole project was a fiasco after the Matilda hair pile video proved completely underwhelming.

  16. Frankie P

Wonderful to hear from the Dr. of Sasquatch! His books are on the top of my Sassy shelf! Good show Wes, with stories I hadn’t heard him tell before. Great man, great speaker, and his enthusiasm really comes through. Sure glad we’ve him on our side in this!

  17. John H

I’m two years behind, but this was such a pleasant interview. Dr. Bindernagle seemed like such a nice man. Listening now, he made several prophetic statements. He knew his time was short, and yet, he still had a great passion for the subject.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend!
Great interview Wes. Who’s going to fill his shoes?
    Time will tell.
Great show! The Doc has a way of bringing a certain refinement to the subject of Sasquatch, so down to earth.
What a loss to the community!
    God Speed Doc!!
