SC EP:312 The Snelgrove Lake Incident

A listener writes, “Hello Wes, Doug Hajicek Here, I was the creator and producer of MonsterQuest, Legend meets Science, Mysterious Encounters, Giganto the real King Kong and many other TV shows. I recently worked with Les Stroud on his bigfoot shows as a Tech director.

Anyhow, I just wanted introduce myself to say how much I really enjoy your Sas-Chronicles and compliment you on your super nice friendly manners and the great respect you show witnesses and guests. You also always ask great questions, take the topic serious and your commentaries always compliment your interviews. You are a very talented host who is no doubt gaining endless-connect the dot knowledge base on this on-going mystery. Your show has helped even me connect dots by hearing so many witnesses back to back and I’ve been doing research like 27 years now.

I got in to this crazy mystery and mainly produced my shows to communicate good BF info to the public as I was a BF researcher first, but happened to be a wildlife/ natural history producer who just applied my production skills to producing the shows on a subject that I was most interested in and researching everyday anyhow. My interest began like most when I crossed path with one of these creatures at a fairly young age and then again in the far north in the early 90s, been a lot of years now trying to find answers.

My son is also now a dedicated field researcher after he traveled with me to Snelgrove Lake, Ont. Canada and experienced the wrath of creatures first hand. He has also been in search of answers ever since.

Anyhow love to visit with you sometime when you get spare time. I have had many life changing experiences for sure to share with anyone who wants them shared. We certainly have plenty in common.”

Kicked back in my hotel room across the street from the white house with the headphones on listening to my favorite Sasquatch Chronicles show. Do you think P. Trump knows what’s living in our forest?

    • Rich P

It was awesome to hear the answers about the findings from the DNA tests. Always wondered. Good questions Wes. Another great show. Really like the following up you do and how you work it into the shows. Very interesting.

With all due respects to Doug, I can’t share his opinion that these creatures go great distances following the food sources. In my neighborhood, these creatures are here all seasons, so I can’t agree that they move long distances following the food, berries etc. I do think they have a roaming range in search of food. I’m sure they know their area well enough to know when and where the ripening seasons of fruit and vegetables are in their roaming area, which is no doubt a large area. We have black berries and raspberries and wild strawberries, mushrooms, ramps, wild lettuce and other edibles in my area. We have lots of wild game, too many deer. And the ones in my area regularly visit the garbage bins for treats the can scavenge from humans. So I’m not an advocate of migrating Sasquatch. I think they stake their claim on an unknown range by us humans and they travel in their circuit. The fact that they appear when the blueberries are ripe just means the group in that area are making their circuit and take advantage of the ripening blueberries. Perhaps they find and likely do, find other things ripening in June, July etc. As I’ve said on here before, my group seem to be less active for a few days here but they will return, it is their pattern. The fact that people report that they are territorial would indicate they patrol, mate, give birth and live in their territory all year. Otherwise to encroach upon another groups territory could cause some real “hurtin”!

    • Tracy A

Sid N; the word migration may ill chosen when discussing BF. @ 122:17 “in certain geographic areas” IE: local/regional adaptation. For a BF group “migration” could be driven by seasonal food/weather (temp. comfort zone). This “migration” could be very localized or as much as 100-200 miles north to south depending on the necessary adaptation. Could also be useful to avoid inbreeding as the areas/regions may overlap to a degree.
      Just my opinion.

      • Sid N

Appreciate your opinion. I think it is highly plausible their territory or as I referred to it as a circuit is extensive for hunting and gathering food. My group don’t stray far from my area, only a few days at a time. Of course with their stride and stamina I’m sure it would not take a group long to cover their territory. I’ve heard it said that bears and big cats do the same. Perhaps I misunderstand the concept of migration. I think of it as a way some animals spend weeks or months in an area before retracing their steps to where they came from. Since my group can be found here in every season, I’m doubtful of that understanding of migration as being applicable to Sasquatch in general. We don’t really know, it’s all a big question mark at this point. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated! It was a great show and added more than the Monsterquest episode to our understanding!

Outstanding show. Thank-you Wes. Thank-you Doug.

Doug: Regarding the generalization of “It’s the same thing with cougars and wolves” – have you heard of a similar degree of resource-allocation put towards intimidation off of creatures other than Sasquatch?

Thanks again. Regards from BC ??

    • Alexander F

If there’s any wolves truly 4′ tall at the shoulder, that would be something….. Can we just be a bitttttttt more realistic and less hyperbolic? We’re already in such odd territory to begin with. We just need a bit more … ahem … straightforward talk.

What a great episode! Wes please have Doug back as soon as you can. I’d love to hear about his other sightings and hear more about the reluctance he now has returning to Snellgrove Lake when he wasn’t afraid to return after the cabin shaking incident. Excellent episode! Thank you Wes.

  5. maryann s

I remember watching on TV about the cabin being trashed and the nail board. So much more interesting hearing it on your show Wes. Great interview…One of my favs!

  6. Greg T

Great show. I heard him interviewed before on another podcast and this will sound obvious, but I didn’t get near the same story quality. I’d like to hear some of his other stories from other expeditions or adventures, even if it drifts from BF.

  7. m99

Wow Doug, we’ve been trying to get all those positive accolades across to him, but, he’said very humble, much to his credit. Just loved your show, and miss seeing it. Me & my niece liked to watch it together, but she’did get scared sometimes. Kudos. Thx!

~ Damn dirty APES (speaking of the goons in SUV’s, who are harassing scientists who are doing their business). Not that I know anything, call it a feeling, but, there’s the govt, then there’s the “shadow govt”. Don’t trust the feds. IMHO

  9. Robert C

Fantastic episode!!! I loved Monsterquest and Snelgrove lake one of my favorite episodes!! Lived hearing the inside info on the cabin and experiences! My thoughts on the urinating and rock throwing incident. Maybe when your group decided to come back out with thermals and night vision. They scattered and hid because they thought it could be weapons. Waving and pointing them towards the woods. Just a thought. Also I would like to ask a question… When you were there with the kids and friends ( the attack when you turned on the light) Was it before or after the cabin had been repaired?? Thank you and Wes for such an amazing episode.. btw PLEASE BRING BACK MONSTERQUEST!!! ?

  10. Mike B

I rarely post, but I have to say that I LOVED this episode. Wes, you really do a fantastic job and deserve the compliment Doug gave you. As a TV and radio producer myself, I know first hand the expenses involved in producing shows like MonsterQuest (and SQ for that matter), so I realize without major network involvement (money) it would be hard to do.; but even so, I would love to see Doug be able to bring back MQ. Fantastic show, Wes!!! Bravo!!

PS. Will we ever hear an update on Bob Garrett?

  11. Debbie C

    Doug Hajicek;
Wes “light-bulbs” are going off BIG TIME!
I think Wes Germer show “Sasquatch Chronicles” is
    worth producing for TV programing.
Now days, TV lacks in depth, serious Sasquatch research.

    Wes;
What an amazing honor to correspond with
    Monster Quest creator and producer
    Doug Hajicek!
I wish Monster Quest was on TV with new
    episodes!
    Sasquatch Chronicles is much like
the TV program Monster Quest, just as good:)
This episode so far is the best I’ve listen to.

Never anger a Sasquatch. Piss into a bucket.

I often wonder if Monster Quest could
return to TV, would Doug Hajicek include
    the other mystical creature Dogman?

  12. Pete M

Loved the inside scoop about that episode of Monster Quest, I remember my wife and I laughing at how scared Dr. Meldrum and the researchers were after they retreated into the cabin. The fear was real, imagine if they had shook the cabin instead of just throwing rocks? That being said, we do realize that we’d of been just as scared if we were in their shoes.

  13. Carolyn R

Wes, Such an informative show, so much more than the MQ episodes gave us. The fact that you will be able to have Doug on your show again is dyn-o-mite… Please let us know a little ahead (as you always do) I have a million questions to suggest. … I tend to exaggerate 😉
    Thanks again Wes and Doug…

  14. SHANNON D

Monster Quest was a great show, well done, well sourced, great witness encounters, no hyperbole… Now we have, Finding Bigfoot, Killing Bigfoot, Mountain Monsters, and Alaska Monsters or what ever.. We really are going down hill….

P.S. I believe it was a Monster Quest episode about White Hall, New York that really peaked my interest in encounters from New England..

  15. Charles R

Gosh, finally got to listen on Wed., just so dang busy. Wes the treat was for the listeners, I know for myself anyway. For attacking that cabin, since it is vacant for probably 8 or 9 months they just may consider it theirs. I am sure they monitor that cabin in the summer and countless clients have been spied upon over the years, never having a clue. Also protecting those blueberries. How many thousands of encounters have happened with berries and blue berries seem to be their favorite, I know they are mine. Blue berries have so many benefits to the human body and I am sure they do the Sasquatch as well.
I have enjoyed so many programs that Doug has produced and he is a treasure in this community. Doug, if you read this, just maybe you have the resources and connections to produce a Hollywood movie on Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin and soon, since Bob is still in good health and mental capacity. The conspiracy of the BLM, Dept. of Interior, National Forest Service, etc just being lazy and not have to do more work should the Bigfoot phenomena become accepted makes sense. I am not sure it is the driving factor, however I suspect it is a big factor and one I had never thought of. The bureaucrats like the easy living and pensions on the public dollar and seldom want to do the extra work. It is another part of the Swamp that Trump talks about.

And thanks Wes for getting my question about the million dollar pay out to Bob Gimlin. It had come to me second hand and Doug addressed it exactly how I had heard it. I owe you one. Thanks again Wes for all you do. You make a very big difference in this field. There is nothing like first hand interviews that are so much better than the written reports. Nothing can substitute for raw emotion.

  16. June P

Wow, great interview!! Love how articulate the guests are here on Sasquatch Chronicles!
Love Doug Hajicek’s honesty and details about his encounters and investigations. His credentials are icing on the cake.
These interviews keep me listening. I believe these creatures exist, although I have never sighted one. The witnesses have convinced me of that- sight unseen. Love SasChron!!!!

  17. Jayne B

Wes, I think when the day comes and the proof that Sasquatch exists is out there, you will go down in history as being a big part of that discovery, in your own way by doing what you do. 🙂

  18. Vance W

Great show Wes. I always was interested in that story on that remote cabin. I remember seeing the part about it being torn up and how the nail board was stepped on. It’s really interesting to hear the insider track about it.

  19. Kerry D

By far my favorite podcast??I’ve listened to it a couple times. Picked up more details second time around. Think I’ll go for a third ! I posted this comment once already but it bears repeating. I figure while most people here in the gym with me are energized by their music, I on the other hand am kept going by the podcasts!
    Thank you Wes. Thanks Doug.

  20. Jan D

I had to listen to this one twice. The insights that Doug provided throughout the interview struck me as truthful and accurate. He nailed it on so many points: the value of the SC interviews, the interviewing techniques, the importance of SQ as an archive of cases for scientists, the incremental pace of science in validating the existence of this creature, the laziness that prevents government agencies from exposing this (or addressing it), the media that perpetuates this as a joke, the forest ecology that may increase their numbers… My first exposure to sasquatch was also the Patterson-Gimlin footage in the early seventies and, like Doug, I was an outdoorsy kid. I fished frequently in the remote areas of Northern California where that footage was taken. My dad was right next to me when I saw that footage; he said, “That’s a guy in a suit,” and I thought, “That’s not a guy, that’s an animal.” And Doug is right: the more you look at it, the less human it looks. Monster Quest was a great show, because it took the subject seriously and dealt with it methodically. Doug approaches this with a kind of thoroughness, care and discipline that are quite a refreshing break from the usual. I’d like to hear him on other aspects of the subject, and would urge you to take him up on his offer to come on the show again.

  21. Bryan R

I couldn’t agree more with the guy when he made the comment about doing the show without the sound effects, just the witness telling their story. Vic does the same with his dogman and bigfoot shows. Any one listening to these type shows probably has heard a darkwaters show and knows he fills the thing with sound effects and puts a lot of pride into his ability to do so, because he tells about how good he is at it. I admit I listen to some of his, but I hate the way they’re over produced. Keep doing it the way you’re doing it Wes! Don’t change a thing.

  22. wanda t

HEY Wes! Great show! However….I think its more than they just don’t wont to deal with it! I agree with you in so much as there is more than meets the public eye on this subject. I love your show!

  23. Tracy R. B

    Doug & Wes
EPISODE SC EP:312 had been added to my favorites list.
Tremendous amount of information to digest.
    Thank you.
Has the return interview aired ?
If so, what is the Sasquatch Chronicle’s episode number ?
