SC EP:310 It grunted like a gorilla

A listener from Ontario, Canada writes “Hi Wes, I had a very bizarre situation when I was 15. I have never told anyone before but after listening to you for the last month I think I can tell you.

It’s a crazy story I will give you the outline if you are interested you can let me know. I am in Ontario and this happened in a village in southwestern ont. my parents found god and thought I was to adventurous so moved me to the middle of nowhere. I have grown up surrounded byweird happenings. I found out a few years ago that my great great grandmother was full Ojibwa so weird gifts I have now make sense. I have always been connected to animals so the country was not bad.

We had an old barn that we did not use but to park the car in. Where the animals were kept at one time you had to go down a ladder which was broken or threw a door you had to climb down broken up old stone stairs. My parents like I said we’re constantly praying and stuff so I would hide in the barn. It was late fall but the snow was falling early. I was in the hay loft and I heard a noise which was weird because we had no animals. I came down the later on to the main floor seen nothing. I sensed something there. I heard a noise under me. I am a curious person. I went around to the steep steps and seen the door open it was a split door and they were both open. The damn door was very hard to open because of the age. I could not get it a quarter of the way open it was wide open.

I went to the door and peeked around it. It was still filled with hay from the previous tenants. Underneath the hay this massive blob was there. I was worried one of the neighbors horses was hurt so went a little closer and it uncovered its head. Which was pointed away from me and grunted like a gorilla does when it sends out a warning. I don’t know why but I said sorry and backed away. Went in the house and that was it. I was freaked and my parents did not believe in that stuff. They said that was the devil playing games. So I said nothing. Whenever I went to hide in the loft i would bang my feet if I heard a huff I would leave. This went on for a few months. I always noticed the farmers always bringing the animals in at night which I thought was weird.

One day we were suppose to get a blizzard a bad one. For some reason I was thinking about the big ape. I did not really know what Bigfoot was. I thought it was a big ape. It always closed the big door when it left. So I figured if it starts snowing it could not get in so I got the door open and I threw fruit and vegetables in and left. The blizzard came and in the end my brother and I climbed out my bedroom window to dig out the doors. We were stuck for a week. After the storm I peeked around to see if my buddy was stuck but the top part of the door was open and there was a huge path to the forest. I could not get to it because of the snow was so high. I did not hear it again till early summer.

It was our first long weekend and I had an argument with my parents and it was dark we were surrounded by bush and I would walk into town during the day but this was first time at night. I knew there was wild farm dogs. I was walking down the main road and I heard one of those dogs coming from the bush. I was scared because there was no houses around. I all of a sudden heard A big boom from a tree falling then there was the dog growling and I could see it’s eyes. It was moving towards me. All of a sudden there was a growl that shook me. And the dog stopped and turned. There was another growl and a Big Bang I seen its eyes it was about 7 feet. The dog ran and I walked off shaking in my shoes.

A month latter I was out wondering and a man in a totally black truck pulled up and introduced himself as a neighbor which I knew he was not. He started ask questions about big bears. I played stupid. Then a week later I was outside at night smoking and I heard gunfire it was not any shot gun either. My mom came running outside and asked where the noise came from. I knew they killed it. So I got on the bus and asked where the war was I was mad. One girl looked at another girl looked at me said a bear got in a barn. So to push it I said I hope you called and reported it. I said it against the law not to. That night I was out walking and my so called neighbor pulled up and started chatting at me and he said oh sorry to disturb your family. I said I hope you have your rocket launchers registered. He just looked at me. I have a smart mouth which he reminded me of. I smiled and said yup. He said we had a big bear in the barn. I said sure it was not a monkey. His face went stone cold. He scared me so I laughed and said no I understand you have to protect your family and your animals. I said I would have done the same thing. He nodded at me and smiled and he said good answer. Have a good day and drove off. Freaked me out.”

My thoughts exactly. I typically like to listen to SC driving into work, but I couldn’t get past the 15 minute mark due to her annoying inflections. It’s very rare I have to cut a show short, but this one, I just couldn’t get past her interview answers. It sounded like she was making up stuff on the fly whenever Wes would ask a question.

      • m99

Really? That wasn’t a nice thing to say, Robert.

Perhaps etiquette hasn’t been taught since the past century. The ‘common sense/manners’ adage goes like this: ‘Don’t say anything if you can’t say anything nice.’ or, if you have nothing nice to say…

Don’t give me that free speech business, either; that’s pertaining to ‘debating’ a subject, which, nowadays, most have no idea about either. Isn’t it wonderful that tools such as online dictionary’s, thesaurus’, and encyclopedias are still available? How about typing something in one of those and learn a little. Your ignorance is showing…

Christine, I don’t find anything wrong with her voice that’s annoying. Sounds fine to me. That’s not a very nice thing to say right under someone’s episode.

Look, I love Sasquatch Chronicles and I have always thought that Wes does an amazing job. I’m a member and have listened to each and every show and have never commented in the negative…until this episode. I honestly wasn’t trying ruin a life or not “stay classy,” but just felt I wanted to share my thoughts on this one. It’s the first time I couldn’t listen from start to finish. I will consider myself schooled…no more criticism or saying what I think unless it’s high praise! By the way…a couple responses I received were way more rude than anything I said. As the old adage goes (as I was reminded on here), if you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything… Christine

You sounded great,I’m half Canadian!?My family has a cottage east of Algonquin park west of Pembroke. One night we heard a car screech to a halt up on the highway, then something crashing through the woods and then into the lake.It went swish swish swish into the water. The flashlight beam didn’t reach and I didn’t care leave the porch to go investigate.I checked for footprints in the morning at the beach but there weren’t any…I’ve always wondered… was your sighting anywhere near that?

    • Derek G

You sounded fine. As far as an accent goes we have heard them all. Among the states you have so many different accents that it is crazy! Boston is different than Cape Cod where Barnstable is Bonstible, Cape Cod and Boston are different than New Bedford, MA and that is just in a 60 mile radius! Rhode Islandese where Canada is Canader and pizza is pizzer, indiana is different in accent than Kentucky and the list goes on and on. In New York every borough is different. I think you could get a degree if you are able identify every accent in the US.

Episode 310: ‘Crystal meets Harry Henderson in Ontario’.

I hope the big boy got away. Although she never saw him again, I wish she’d talked about her investigation of the barn after smart mouth ‘Barney Fife’ split in the big, black, maybe govt issued Suburban. My reply to him would have been, ‘No, Mr. Fife, YOU have a smart mouth. That ain’t NO WAY to speak to a young woman!”

    Good Show, Thanks Wes.

I liked the episode too. Crystal you did a very good job and I believe your story. I’d also like to say that I like it when Wes puts in his “two cents”.

Wes you’ve been collecting encounters for quite awhile now and I (other members too, I’m sure) welcome your thoughts after the guests tell the encounter. I’ve learned a lot about Sas/BF from listening to this show and its good to hear your thoughts to compare with mine.

    Really good show,
    Thanks
    Phil C.

Crystal: I really enjoyed you story, thanks for sharing! You must have been a rebel when you were younger! ?? You sound great, rather refreshing. Don’t change a thing. Very glad you had a good experience with the big guy! I believe as with all animals that they could read your positive energy and found you as a good person & not a threat. I’m not a tree hugger but I do believe in this! All the best to you, eh!! Thanks again.

If it sounded like a cannon it was probably a 50 caliber.

That Sasquatch had obviously lost it’s fear of man. It had probably been breaking into barns and rummaging through people’s trash for quite awhile.
The guy in the new black truck was most likely a ‘government exterminator.’ He and a couple other guys probably crept up on it while it slept in someone’s barn and took it out., each one taking a shot to make sure they killed it.

i immediately thought someone had seen it or reported something very out of the ordinary and the “dept of things that go bump in the night” either caught wind of it, or as some say the law have a file that one person writes in regarding bigfoot, ufo’s, etc and the file was read, they went to the area, tracked it probably very easily as it sounded somewhat domesticated as it disnt seem afraid to go in human habitats, tracked it and took it out and by questioning the locals near the report area, were gauging if there were more and who knew what about what was going on and who seen what and was their potential to talk. the guy might have actually done it a favor. if the garbage kept it tame, imagine if dad wanted the trash burnt or put elsewhere, the booger could get hungry and get nasty very quick. theres always 2 sides, im sure he didnt kill just to kill for fun. id love to know what ur closest neighbors knew or saw.

  5. Reid D

You did a fantastic job Crystal! Accent and all! I got one too its just I live in Texas is all! You did awesome! Thank you for helping me get thru a Monday at work!

  6. Alexander F

Hey, did anyone else hear Wes’ voice have a giant change about 19ms into the episode? Heheh, it was kinda funny. Guessing it was just a re-record moment. But, either way, very funny 🙂 .

I like not seeing the studio.
I feel like I might miss something by not constantly watching the studio image.
Now I can put my ear plugs in and close my eyes and imagine what the witness was seeing.

Wes and Crystal, great show! And I never say that, I’m stingy that way, although I almost always enjoy them. But I felt like saying it about this show. I enjoyed the stories, and “Wes’s two cents”. I enjoy a good accent, too, and the Ontario is not too far off from the Chicago, where I grew up–that sharp, nasal “yeaaah” and “daaad”, ha ha, a Chicago favorite. But Ontario’s is closer to Minnesota and North Dakota….One of the saddest bits of homogenization in our culture is the disappearance of regional flavor, including accents. I meet people who grew up in the South and I cannot even tell! Everyplace is a mall in Jersey, now. Screw the whole demonic booger idea, I’m pretty sure hell is a mall in Jersey, too, which means that the demons have officially taken over.

Sad that that amiable booger got shot, although your point is well taken, thomas w., he was probably an old loner, who are the most likely to eat one of us, according to the Bigfoot Outlaws. Although, it sounds like he was fine for a time, just scrounging. Who knows how it would have turned out had they left him alone?

I find it strange to hear of such men-in-black doings up in Canada, though that was a U.S. specialty. Would that mean that the U.S. and Canada collude in this–keeping BF on the hush-hush, meanwhile sending out kill squads who spread the official story of “it was a bear”? Or does Canada have its own little BF kill-squad corps? And for similar reasons (maintain outdoorsy tourist dollars and avoid endangered species protection, for the sake of profit)?

  9. Rich A

I’m glad for the witnesses who come out and provide content for all of us. Wes you’re a great host man. Thanks for providing a safe place for folks to share their experience. Looking forward to more “Blue Room” videos. Thanks for enduring the lights in your face. We dig the extras.

  10. Derek G

BTW- I have to say if you listen to others from Ontario like myself they sound like they could be from Michigan or something. I know we cant be a good judge of accents when we are from that region but left Ontario at 20 and lived all over the US for 11 yrs, Italy for 5, India, Australia, and Africa for 2yrs. It was 17yrs that I hadnt returned home to Ontario and i did notice a bit of an accent but nothing as extreme as i have heard in other English speaking countries including the US. Cheers to variety!

    • m99

Absolutely! And, that’s why I hope the big guy got away. I believe he may have because it’s been alleged that they live in troops, so perhaps her BF saw, or heard what happened on the farm nearby and decided it was time to leave. I sure hope so!

    • Seamus J. C

I did, too, absolutely! The other thing is that Crystal did not specifically point that out, which makes the story even more credible. But it makes sense that the big fella would protect her; he had an understanding with her, and BF hate dogs, anyway.

With comments like this …… people whom have had an encounter ( myself included ) don’t want to tell their story for fear of all the doubt and ridicule….. shame on you 🙁

Im in Australia, flooding rains, stuck inside. I’ll be your crash test dummy. Annoying resonance in a person’s voice matters. It is apparently an issue here for some. Im half deaf, 61 yrs old. If it strikes me like scratching fingernails down a chalk board, I come back with a comment. Bring it on!!

I meant to write more. I think if anything next time just chill. This story is really good fun. I had a similar experience but with only dogs. A nasty little dog used to frighten me. I couldnt hardly get passsed him to go to my house. I was a little who had to walk home from school.
One day two big golden retrievers, friendly fellows, followed along home with me all the way to my house. Goldie and Samson. I knew them from up the road. And they terrified that little nasty dog. They boxed him in and very closely circled around him, bared teeth and penned him in betweeen the two of them as they slowly encircled. I knew what I was seeing was astonishing. I sure thanked Goldie and Samson and that wirey little irish terrier he was, red brilllo pad, never stalked at me again, not once.

  15. cyndie r

Well I guess it is more like central Africa. But come on… Is that all you got out of her encounter? Or all that you found worthy of discussion?

Good job crystal. I enjoyed listening to your encounters. I’m really glad you were young and open minded at the time. You weren’t scared for life. I do think you are a little naïve as to their intentions. But luckily you didn’t have to find out.

  16. Andrew B

Crystal, don’t concern yourself with critics. You sound like a free spirit who had a lot of difficult times as a kid because of your parent(s), but kept your adventurous nature and that’s great. You remind me of the semi crazy (the good ‘crazy’) chic from that show Alaska: The Last Frontier (Jane Kilcher). I enjoyed your account very much.

  17. Blanche D

Very often, it is just as interesting to hear about the character of the witnesses as well as the sasquashes. In my youth, children rarely ‘talked’ to adults about their lives, whether for fear of shame, disbelief, or punishment. Great show as always. Thank you to guests. I don’t always comment about my gratitude to the guests for disclosing their encounters but I hope my subscription to the podcast expresses that unconditionally,.

I’m a little late joining, listening and commenting but I loved and appreciated this episode and Crystal. I thought it was fascinating and really enjoyed listening to her account/ experience and the conversation with Wes. I was born and raised in the midwest (Illinois) but have been in Texas for 30 years now and love hearing the northern accents from my hometown and my family in Michigan and am also very fond of the Canadian accent/ inflections and there was nothing off putting about Crystal or her voice/ accent or account. I appreciate her sharing her experience and appreciate all the work Wes puts into these episodes. Thank y’all 🙂
