SC EP:189 Sasquatch is bad for business

Tonight I speak to Cory who is from Texas and went on a commercial hunting trip in Canada. Cory had several strange things happen while he was on this hunting trip.

He writes, “After I arrived in Canada and was out in the middle of no where I heard tree knocks. It went on for along time. I asked the trip organizer what the noise was and he insisted it might have been a moose. Things progressed on this trip and I heard a very very violent vocal.

I have never heard anything like this before. It sounded like King Kong killing something, the creature was tearing apart something. The creature soon circled around my tree stand, I finally backed out of there slowly.I talked to the trip organizer and I am not sure if he knew about these creatures and they were bad for his “paid” hunting trips or if he truly had no idea.

This brought back memories of growing up on the family farm in Texas. We had a lot of strange things go on and around that property. My sister even saw what she describes as a “very large monkey walking on two feet back into the tree line. As a child I saw the creature on the property”

Excellent show, Wes (as always)! And thank you Cory for sharing your stories. I wanted to say that it was helpful for me to hear the recordings of what Cory said sounded something like what he heard, as well as the cougar…. My first thought had been that the screaming his family heard was possibly a cougar, but for you to play what a big cat can sound like and to have Cory say that wasn’t it, was very convincing to me. Still a stubborn skeptic, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think Sasquatch is a possibility… I think it’s a very good possibility. I just haven’t seen one for myself (and yes, I am waiting for science to come ’round too).

Oh, and Wes… if you are reading this… Add one more avid listener on the list of those who want to hear from insiders. Especially ones you can vet. (I am cautious that way.)

Thanks Cory. I know where your coming from when you get dropped off in the middle of nowhere and you have to stay put until the guide comes to get you usually after dark too. It’s not for everybody that’s for sure.

      • Dave T

Gale, it’s kind of scary because your life is in the hands of the guide sometimes. They may drop you so far back in the wilderness, you aren’t walking out. Imagine something happens to your guide while you’re in the woods hunting and he can’t come get you and he’s the only one who knows where your at. Like I said, it’s not for everybody.

The other thing I forgot to mention is like in Cory’s situation, he was bow hunting. After dark a bow is worthless as far as protection. You might as well throw it on the ground and pull out your knife. After dark, human beings are very vulnerable and up in that wilderness there’s several things that can kill you besides the boogers like wolves, bears, mountain lions, and even moose. Moose can be extremely dangerous. He was smart to stay up in the tree till the guide came back, atleast you have some advantage being off the ground from some of the critters. Although an 8 ft tall booger could just reach up and grab you if your only 10 ft up. Hard to believe we pay lots of money to do that.

Cory you did a great job telling your story, I’m just adding in some stuff that a lot of people that don’t hunt might not know. The one other thing I thought of about your encounter bow hunting was that you were bear hunting over bait and I don’t know if that was mentioned. Anyway, that’s how most bear hunting across most of that region is done. The guide baits the chosen hunting spot with food to draw the bears in close enough for a shot. Probably no farther than 20 yds for a bow hunter. Some of the favorite foodstuffs used in baiting are sweets, cookies, donuts, molasses, etc. and bacon grease. Bacon grease because it sticks to the bears paws and when it walks away it leaves a scent trail that other bears find and follow into the bait site increasing the number of bears finding it quicker. They also used skinned beaver carcasses hung up off the ground too. Squatches I’m sure visit these bait sites also for an easy meal and some quick calories. That Squatch you ran into Cory was probably pissed because it wanted into that bait site for some easy grindage, and you were guarding it’s dinner. That’s my take on the encounter.

I understand. Thanks so much for the information. I guess I should have known but did not realize they bait so close to where the hunter actually will be. 20 yds would be very close. Thanks again.

Another excellent show! By creating a forum where all kinds of different witnesses can come forward, we get to hear a wide variety of accounts. Also, thanks for playing the mountain lion screams. We city dwellers don’t get to hear many lions! Really looking forward to what “the insider” will say. Please do what you have to do to get him (her?) on board.

Great stories, Cory . Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I lived in Denton, Tx. for years and spent a let if time on a ranch outside Weatherford and another outside Mineral Wells on the Brazos River. I never saw anything, but imagine there could have easily been something in the woods and there were times when our dogs acted scared of something. Anyway, thanks again. Really enjoyed listening to your accounts.

I live about ten miles from the northern provincial forest Cory speaks of. More vast and wild than any part of the United States. Hands down. I’ve heard knocks, grunts, huge tree trunk snaps and other strange things while out bow hunting in the big bush. To the point where there’s places I won’t hunt or even go into anymore. Even had a dead deer picked up and taken away from me. They’re definetaly here but people around here wouldn’t mention it for nothing. I’m curious too where about it happened also. You don’t have to mention the outfitter but can you mention the small town? Smeaton, mistatim, archerwill perhaps??

Boy Cory you’ve had a Guardian Angel watching over you all your life. You could have been BF food at anytime of your life. Glad you are ok. Stay safe and be aware of your surroundings. Thanks Wes for the show. Very entertaining.

I always wondered if these BF are so big and heavy, how can they walk on a roof without falling thro or climb up in a tree without it falling over from the weight?

Great show. Add it to the list of temper tantrum throwing creeps. And if I am not mistaken that one was NOT down in Texas where we typically think of the creatures as being perhaps more inbred and mentally ill. That part of Sas behavior just intrigues me. It is also one of the things that seems so human-like: temper tantrums, revenge and those type of behaviors.
Cory you encountered a lot of the thoroughly creepy behaviors (lying and wait by the wood pile, repeated knocking on the window whilst your father and family slept just inches away, temper tantrum and ultimately circling your hunting blind) and yet it has not deterred you from traversing the woods unarmed. Or armed with just a bow and arrow. Nerves of steel!!
As a woman, I can say its nice to feel safe. It is a relief just to know you and your family are safe. I know your wife feels safe when you are at home, wherever that may be.
    Thanks for sharing.

Thanx Wes – you rock! I used to live where Robin was talking about her experiences. I didn’t know it then, but I’m sure it was sasquatch running my horses all night long some nights. They would coming running up towards the house so fast, I thought for sure they’d run or slide into the house at night. Sometimes this running went on for hours. Sasquatch never popped into my mind, not even once. I used to ride in the Tulalip wilderness as well, with some close encounters. Love the shows Wes!

Thank you Cory for such an articulate interview,I too experienced the scream from hell many years ago on a tobacco farm in South Ga.The mountain lion audio that Wes put up,if you amp it about a hundred times and make it a solid scream lasting much longer, then you will come close. It literally sounded like a woman being skinned alive and whatever it was didn;t do it just once and move on,it stood across the dirt road from my granny’s house a good 30 minutes, raising hell.I don’t know what antagonized it,we were all sitting around the tv,which was the only light on in the house, that hot summer night in the 70’s.I know that I had never known real fear in my life till that night, because it sounded like a demon from hell and pissed off to boot.

Wes, went back to hear this oldie but goody. Thanks to Carl for sharing his story. My dad would also say there was nothing going on. He might go check it out but we’d never see his do this. Maintaining calm was always his strength with 7 kids in the house, who needed chaos. We were enough chaos without the possibility of anything extra going on in the home. Not near nature; live in the city. We had a different kind of wild thing going on in the city so he was always about keeping his kids safe. Wes, thanks for playing that scream. It really helps to hear these different nature sounds, especially for the guests. Great show.

I know this is an older show. BUT- that is what I heard. exact.. to the T. On my Reservation in Canada. Lac Seul First Nation. It sounded near but I know it was far because I know the area where it was coming from, the direction it was coming from. It was late at night around 11pm. There was absolutely NO DOGS barking, I looked at my dog, she was in in her house. That noise was coming from the North direction, in between my community and Kejick Bay another sub community of LSFN. 3 sub communities make up LS. I am listening to your shows going down the list, trying to hear-verify, if I hear that exact sound. There was similar howls/yells that i have previously mentioned-those possible similarities, but this 1 is it!! I was comparing yells, the 1 from that lady who recorded/posted it online have exact comparsions. The high pitch vocalization. There is always sightings around our area. Another spot is LAKE ST.JOSEPH by Pickle Lake On., Residents from SIoux Lookout, ON and Osnaburgh ON, claim there is 1 living around there, I am going to ask around for stories, I will get back to you!! 🙂

loved this episode! I live in Saskatchewan, and it’s amazing to hear someone’s account here at my home. I haven’t found too many sightings in the province compared to British Columbia, Alberta or Ontario, but the ones we do have greatly interest me. after my road-side sighting in 2007, I’ve gone out on a couple expeditions but haven’t found much. would love to hear about more accounts in saskatchewan!
