SC EP: 426 I had to slam on my brakes

Show Notes: International Bigfoot Conference & Film Festival

I look forward to this event every year and hope to see you guys and gals out there. Russell Acord and my brother Woody will be stopping by tomorrow as we discuss the International Bigfoot Conference.

Our first guest, Scott writes “Hello, Wes! I’d like to share my Bigfoot encounter. In 2011, I had moved to Cazadero, CA in a VERY small cabin. The cabin was part of a larger property used as a church retreat.

Most of this area is very heavily wooded, mostly with redwoods, Douglas Firs and Bay trees. By heavily wooded, I mean that not much sunlight penetrated through the canopy. The property was bordered by a creek.

Cazadero is very wet and cool. Being close to the Russian River and the Pacific Ocean, the temperatures stayed in the 70’s even in the hottest weather.

Deer and other wildlife would come into “Caz” to seek relief from the hot and dry weather of Summer and also brought bears and mountain lions. Any other time, not much lived there as nothing could grow. There wasn’t much food otherwise.

Part of my rental agreement was to maintain and clean the grounds. Frequently, large rotted limbs of the redwoods would come crashing down and one morning I was out picking these up. I noticed a lot of bird noises which I thought was unusual. There was a small group of redwoods growing in a tight circle, as I was picking up wood debris I noticed what appeared to be an unusual tree. It was a hairy leg.

My mind was jolted, trying to understand what this was as I looked up and saw a Bigfoot standing in this small grove. It was massive, brown to rust colored with thick hair, but beautiful. My heart dropped and I immediately turned around, trying to pretend that I didn’t notice, even though our eyes made contact. My only thought was “I’m not supposed to be here” I walked away, half expecting it to hit me from behind or worse. I went into the cabin and all I could do is stare at the wall. I listened to the increased bird noises and heard movement through the forest. After a bit, all quieted down and I resumed my day, always thinking of what just happened.”

Our second guest, Mary Ann writes “I grew up on a farm that has been in my family for over 200 years. The property borders the largest state park in this state.

There are literally thousands of acres of forests in this area which a lot of people find surprising for this area of Illinois. The southern part by Missouri. Since our fields are spread out a bit in this area, instead of taking the highway, we would cut up over he ridge and end up on a black top road that ran behind the park. Now I have heard about BF all my life and sometimes the other farmers in the area would mention seeing one or catching a glimpse o one from time to time. Well, I did not pay much attention to it because at that time I never had an encounter.

I would sit out on the back deck at night and would hear wood knocks and an occasional whoop but had never seen one. Sometimes I would take a baseball bat and hit a tree or even the railing of the deck and sometimes would get an answer. Any way, one day, this was about 20 years ago, I cut up over the ridge and was on the blacktop. I was almost to the back entrance of the park when this huge creature jumped the fence along the park, it was on my right, and stood in the road. I had to slam on my brakes or I would have hit it. When I stopped, I could not have been more than 15 to 20 feet away from it, if that.

This thing was huge. I am guessing it was about 7 to 7 1/2 feet tall and 3 feet across the shoulders. It had dark brown hair all over its body except on its face. Broad nose, wide set eyes, a protruding forehead and its arms almost appeared to be normal from the shoulders to the elbows and from the elbow to the hands, the arms were very long. It just stood there and we made eye contact for a full minute. Maybe a little longer. I had the window down on my truck and there was a slight breeze and I caught a whiff of a strong odor. It was almost like a bad body odor.

Like someone who had not had a bath in months. It never made a move toward me. It just stood there then suddenly it crossed the road and went down a hill to my left. I tried to see where it was going but the trees were so thick, I couldn’t see it. Was almost like it disappeared. Now at this time, the sun was setting but it was not quite dusk so there was still plenty of light. And what sun there was, was behind me. I rolled up my window and locked my doors and turned around and went back home. When I got home, I told my mom what I had seen and she never said a word. Just nodded. So that makes me think she had seen it.

We had never had any problems with them coming down to the farms and bothering our livestock but I think that is because there are so many deer around here that thee was no need. But listening to them, you can tell there are more than one. You will hear a tree knock coming from one direction and it will be answered coming from another direction. The same with the whoops. This farm sits near the Mississippi River and in Dec. of 2015 we had a pretty good flood. It was reaching the farm so my mother and I moved into a house in town. About 3 weeks later, the flood waters had receded enough if we wanted to, we could have moved back but we decided to spend the rest of the winter in town. One day our hired hand called to say he had seen one crossing a pasture which was near the house. So I went down there. it had snowed the night before, not much about a couple inches. Our farm hand and I went to the house and there were these huge foot prints that looked like it had walked around the house and had even stopped to look into 4 of the windows. I think it was looking for us because I believe they know who belongs here in this area and since we were gone, it was looking for us. Yeah, I know, sounds silly. But that is my opinion.

This is the only time I know of that one has come to one of our houses. Like I said, we and the other farmers in this area have not been bothered by them except for a sighting now and then of one either crossing a field or walking along the wood line. Or even maybe while out hunting but those that tell of a sighting always say they would walk away from them.

My belief is that they are animals. Intelligent ape like but only animals. And like I said, there has never been any problems that I know of and it is actually to the point that we don’t even mention it when we see one or hear one hardly at all. Any way, that is my encounter. Sorry for the long message.”

I am in academia but can think of no better conference to attend than a bigfoot conference. If only I lived closer to the conference venue, rather than in Japan! Love the show. Sometimes listen to episodes two or three times!

Wes please any chance you could do a reflections show where you catch up with guests from previous classic episodes or update us on ..The brothers (footsteps leading up to the garage) ..the guy that thought he urinated on one from his truck, the guy from down the rabbit hole part 1 (night vision) and chewbacca man, there’s been some fantastic episodes be great to have a ‘where are they now’ and latest from these guests … probably a load of work (sorry) but just putting the request out there as a massive fan. Cheers Mike in UK.

Many people here in West Va. will hear the sounds of a woman screaming being killed and try to blame it on black panthers or mountain lions which the DNR says are no longer in the state….but they are, and so is biggie!

Definitely making it to the IBC this year! I have never been through the blue mountains, and this would be a great opportunity being as it’s so near Kennewick. Anyone know of similar such events/meetings on or near the Olympic Peninsula?

Awesome episode and great encounters! Thought it was cool that the guy in Cali was 3ft from the thing, and it was 10ft tall! Bet he felt small that day. That’s unreal! Happy squatching everyone

I want the episode where the guy who hunts with his cattahoula dogs and some of them don’t come back he saw an explosion of blood guts n gore and one dog was bent backwards, he went back to the car and his girlfriend was asking about the other dogs he says they’re gone. Then he comes back with a guy to look at the scene. That was a great wrenching episode I am trying so damn hard to find. I love the show ive been listening for years I appreciate all the episodes and the diversity thanks a million Wes!
