In the 2015 recording the howler seems to turn to howl in different directions for each howl. Distant response whoops can be heard in the background. Noise from the Ohio turnpike (Route 80) can also be heard in the background.
The 1994 recording is known as the Ohio Howl. It was recorded on high bluffs above the Ohio River looking toward West Virginia. That recording has stumped animal sound experts since it was obtained. All scientifc analysis has concluded that it was not a mechanical device nor was it the vocalization of any known animal.
The latest recording from the CVNP (Cuyahoga Valley National Park) was recorded around 11pm near Hemlock Point in March 2015 by Charlie Page (Ohio BFRO). There have been sporadic sightings, sounds and track finds near and within this park for decades. It is an amazing, beautiful area but it is not well known outside Ohio. The size of the park is 52 square miles, 50% larger than Manhattan (34 square miles).

The 2015 recording was obtained from the vicinity of Hemlock Point which can be seen in the distance in the photo above. Hemlock Point sits atop the first flank of hills directly on the other side of the valley in the photo. The vista above shows only a small slice of the entire national park.

I am a big fan of the photos posted. America the beautiful. While we have incredible beauty In Florida, i yearn for the landscapes I have laid witness to in our Country. Oh to not have an alimony payment sucking up the possibilities.
PATRICK

If you put on a headset you can hear how deep and powerful those howls are, you can tell that a person is not making those calls.

PATRICK

Ok, I’m gonna make you guys jealous, that place is less than 20 miles from my house. I thought that audio in the CVNP was pretty good. Moneymaker could of had possibly one of the best audios ever if he would have shot that dog. I wanna reach through that recorder and strangle that mutt.
