This segment of the WWMT series MICHIGAN MONSTERS explores the legend of the monster that’s said to haunt the Sister Lakes region outside Dowagiac, Michigan.
The Dewey Lake Monster is the name given to a legendary creature said to be approximately 10 feet (3.0 metres) tall and weighing about 500 pounds (230 kilograms), which first gained wide notoriety in June 1964 after several reported sightings near Dewey Lake in Dowagiac, Michigan. It is also referred to as the “Michigan Bigfoot” and “Sister Lakes Sasquatch”.

Heard similar on the Brazos river 2017

Wow! I know the area! The lake is surrounded with houses, pretty populated. Weird.

Actually someone reported that a huge creature was hit and on a exit ramp around that area.
Janetta V

Almost sounds like a bear..and then? Run!!

I’ve never heard Bigfoot audio sounds like that ever . So clear and defined almost like movie soundtrack monster . Would like to hear what a pro who could analyze it has to say about it . Sounds too good to be true ? Scary !
Steven B
Some of the sounds were reminiscent of an African elephant – don’t know what to make of it.
rosalyn b
Sounds just like a black bear. Similar sounds can be found by googling “black bear sounds”
Charles R
I think you may be correct Rosalyn.

It just makes no sense that a bigfoot would be making this kind of noise on a small lake surrounded by quite a few houses, and draw attention to itself. But sometimes sense makes no sense.

this link has alot of comments saying these are not black bear sounds…i think they do sound like a bear except the very end on this video here

I’m not saying it was a Gugwe (but it was a Gugwe)….
Steven B

What is that?
pam
? the gurgling rumble growl of a large cat or elephant is in there at beginning…. the howl I heard in AR at beginning of ” Our adventures with Gugwe” was slightly similar to the end sounds here, with a ‘ woo oohhhh’ ending.

Grew up on a dairy farm–sounds like a cow in labor!

Lots of early Bigfoot reports in the Dowagiac and Sisters Lake area going way back.
Charles R
This is true, actually for most of SW Michigan and on the other side of the state in the Ann Arbor area.
pam
? the gurgling rumble growl of a large cat or elephant is in there at beginning around 1:19…. the howl I heard in AR at beginning of ” Our adventures with Gugwe” was slightly similar to the end sounds here, with a ‘ woo oohhhh’ ending.
pam
around 1:56-58 mark is similar, just slightly, like AR howl beginning our encounter.
