I am new to the forum so please forgive my ignorance. I have a couple encounters to recall. When I was 7 and my brother was 10 we lived in a rural logging town in Oregon.(We were about 6 miles out of town) My family still lives there and since it is a small community I will leave out the exact location. My parents had bought a 30 acre parcel way out in the sticks as my mom always called out. 25 acres was the farm and the other 5 acres was connected but separated by a forest. We lived in the farm house while my parents were building a new house on the 5 acre plot. One summer afternoon probably 1969 my aunt and uncle came to visit and see how the new house was coming, they brought my cousins who were about the same age as my brother and I. Since it was summer we were all barefooted and wearing shorts. I remember asking if us kids could go and play while the adults were at the new house. Our parents said okay, but told my brother and cousin J to keep and eye on us girls since we were younger. We were running around on the farm and decided to go play in the hog house. So about 250 feet behind the old farm house was the hog house, It was a long building with a large open area on one end, I think dad used to have an old tractor parked in there. then the open area led into a long area with about 6 stalls (3 on each side) then goes out a door. There was a side door as well, but it was covered by blackberry bushes. My cousin L and I sat in one of the stalls to play, this stall had the side door that was covered in blackberry bushes. My brother and cousin J were in the open area and was going to come and get us so we could walk back to the house together since the sun was getting ready to set. We were only in the hog house for a few minutes when all of a sudden the boys let out a scream. We looked in the direction and something huge came running from the area where the boys were and ran past my cousin and I. Well we started screaming and ran out the side door right through the berry thicket barefoot and everything. We didn’t stop until we got back to the adults. I had no idea there could ever be a bigfoot or anything like it. This is what we saw. The boys were in the open area playing, this animal came in on 4 legs when they screamed it stood up on 2 legs and through the hog house where my cousin and I were. I remember it was making grunting type noises as it ran out the door. The sun was still coming in the door that it ran out of, so all I could see was a silhouette. It was big and black, it was so big that it had to duck to get out the door. I think the door frame was about 6,5 to 7 foot tall. We were just little kids living out in the country and had no idea about monsters unless they were on TV. We told our parents what had happened of course and because we were all terrified they believed we saw something. We lived way out with no neighbors really so it wasn’t a person, so they decided it was a big raccoon and the noise it made was because it was scared of us too. There isn’t anyway to get your point across when your little kids I guess. After that we moved into the new house and my parents rented out the farm house. Fast forward to 1974 I was 12 and my brother was 15. It was summer and we had been outside helping dad on the 5 acres all day. He said hey lets go for a drive up the canyon (logging roads up near Lyons and Mill City) We were game to go but my mom didn’t want to so she stayed home. We were very familiar with the area and had spent lots of time there swimming in the creek. The drive was about 30 minutes from our house and once you hit the logging roads you either kept going for hours until you reached Detroit Dam or you turned around and went all the way back out. We stopped at an area we all called first bridge. It was a bridge made out of logs so the loggers could bring in their equipment. Underneath the bridge was the creek which was shallow, but fun to swim in. My dad drove over the bridge to park on the other side. There was a family playing in the creek, 2 little kids and the parents. We didn’t say anything to them, but got out of the car and was going to take off on our walk. The logging road we were on went up to some huckleberry patches that we used to go to in the fall once in awhile. I think that would have been about a 3 mile walk, which we didn’t really plan on doing. Where we parked the car over the bridge was about 100 yards from the people playing in creek and already fully in the forest. My brother had the old dog on a leash and decided to run ahead of us to a Y in the path which was about 200 yards up from us. To my right was a short berm that was forested and covered in Salal bushes, to my left was all forest. I was watching my brother standing at the Y holding the dog leash when all of a sudden the entire forest to my right (my dad was beside me) erupted like an explosion. I could see saplings moving like they were in the middle of a tornado. (All this happened in a matter of seconds). The ground was actually moving and I felt like we were having an earthquake. Within a couple seconds of this starting to happen I turned to look at my brother who was up the trail staring off into the brush. Now I didn’t see it, but I saw him see it and it terrorized me for years. My brother at the time was about 5’6 (he is 5’8 now) so that is a guess. I saw him lean back staring way up, the most terrifying thing was watching his mouth open and almost fall backward. Now he still had a hold of the dog leash and that old dog was looking the other way. My brother turned to look back at my dad and I and that look on his face was something I have never forgotten. He came running back to where we were still standing by the car. His face was white, his eyes were huge and his hair was standing straight up. He could hardly talk, but he kept saying “I saw it, I saw it” my dad was saying what, what was it and then my brother said Bigfoot. I knew that’s what he was going to say, I don’t know why. My dad was very scientific and didn’t believe anything unless he saw it himself. He kept questioning my brother, asking how big was it, what color, what did it look like. All I wanted to do was get in the car and go home. My brother pointed with a stick for my dad and he figured it was about 9 feet tall. It had breasts, a domed head and a heavy brow ridge. My brother said it was swinging its arms as it walked. My brother also said that when he heard it coming, all he could think of was a heavy piece of machinery was coming through the brush, of course it wasn’t. He said it never looked at him, so all he saw was the side profile. We got in the car and drove home and after my dad finished his Spanish inquisition, he felt that my brother was telling the truth. My dad called the Bigfoot center in the Dalles Oregon, which I believe was run by Peter Burns. He sent a team out to look at the area and to the best of my memory this is what they found. Since it was hot and dry they couldn’t find any footprints, but they did find where branches were ripped from a tree about 14 feet up then made into a bed. They also found a large rock that was pulled straight up out of the hard dirt..not moved side to side to be lifted out, but pulled straight out. They said it wasn’t a bear. I don’t remember all the details, but they thought that it was eating the Salal berries near the creek even though there was people not far away and when we got out of the car we either spooked it or possibly that since it was a female and they found a nest, that maybe it had a young one hiding and my brother got to close to it. After that a friend of the family brought my brother some books on Bigfoot and since my brother was very good at drawing and sketching he had made a really amazing sketch of what he saw. Later my dad happen to see the Patterson film and they talked about it being a female. For some reason my dad thought that my brother made it up and what we heard was a big deer. I think my dad just found the whole thing hard to believe since he didn’t see it. After that my brother didn’t want to talk about it anymore. People are cruel and it is even harder when your family doesn’t want to believe you.
That isn’t the last encounter, but I didn’t know that was an encounter until I started listening to this forum. I have been interested in Bigfoot ever since my brother’s encounter and always thought that maybe the thing in the hog house was a Bigfoot as well.
The summer of 1976 my 2 girlfriends and I were riding our horses and since we knew everyone that lived in the area, we were allowed to ride through some of the farmers gates and into their property. This one day we were riding about 2 miles as the crow flies from my parents home and rode through this guys open gate (he wasn’t around, but had given us permission before) it would take us through the forest and up to a meadow on the hill, it was about 2 or 3 miles to the meadow. We were on our way back home and were about half way through the forest when the horses started acting spooked. They were snorting, side stepping and swishing their tails. We couldn’t see what was spooking them, but knew it had to be something since all 3 horses were acting up. Then all of a sudden we heard this horrific growling noise and the bushes were erupting. A sapling fir tree roots and all came flying at us. (the sapling was about 4 inches in diameter if I had to guess with a small root wad). Then all hell broke loose and the horses took off towards the gate like death was coming. I was on a very fast horse, but was bareback and had to lay over and grip her mane and dig in with my knees, otherwise I would have fallen. I could hear whatever it was behind us running right behind our horses and those horses were hauling ass. My friend Polly’s (who was just behind me) horse began to scream. I could’t look back because I would have fallen off my horse. This thing chasing us was making a guttural grunting snorting sound and was fast and heavy. I could hear its feet hitting the ground as it ran and it was on 2 legs and just sounded big. Thank God the owner of the property didn’t come behind us and close the gate because I think our horses wouldn’t have stopped running and we all would have been killed. I don’t remember ever hearing a horse scream in terror before or since, but its awful. When we got through gate, we were only about 30 yards or so from this guys barn, and whatever it was stopped chasing us. The horses didn’t stop until we were half way back home (about another 1/2 mile or so). When we were able to stop them and gather our wits, we kept saying what the F was that? Why we didn’t think it was a Bigfoot my only guess is, that we all believed they were gentle giants because that is what we all heard. My brother didn’t get attacked or chased..so this had to be something else. We decided not to tell our parents because they might not let us go riding like that again (not that I wanted to go back there anyway) besides, I already knew what adults thought about Bigfoot, look how they treated my brother. We actually thought it was a demon, which is probably what they are. At the end of the day, if I was asked what I think Bigfoot is. Well, I don’t think Noah brought a pair of them on the Ark and I think they will kill you if they can. Maybe there are some that are the gentle giants, but after being chased on our horses, I never want to find out. Even though this was years ago, it has made me terrified of the woods and I will never go into them alone. I moved to Washington State and now reside in Colorado..all Bigfoot territory.

Until recently, I believed that the summer of 74 was the only bigfoot encounter I had. After learning more from the show, I believe that the summer of 74 was number 2 of 3. Is this the forum that I post my experience too.
