‘Well this freaks me out’ is a very interesting read. You’re right it is creepy. The thought they could be in the Caitlin’s bush really creeps me out. Hubby and I sometimes drive through there when he goes fishing, and it is thick bush alright.
But just to play devils advocate….
How would they get to NZ? The Maori are relative late comers’ after the Moriori (excuse spelling). Do you think they pre-date them?
We have several friends who hunt through the Southern bush areas- Hokonuis, Caitlins as well as the Fiordland area, to name a few. Many of these areas are very remote and these guys are very experienced hunters. None of them have ever reported seeing or hearing anything unusual.
Gosh, I’d hate to think any of those nice guys could be in danger.Woohoo! Finally after all these years, I’ve found another interested person from NZ.

As you know the Maori legends talk of the hairy man from the Coromandel area. But from long ago. I would imagine they would have starved and died out when the Moa became scarce. Plus NZers love travelling and mysteries. So, it’s only natural we bring back stories of Bigfoot-like sightings to share.Dave H, you seem to be finding a lot of information in New Zealand newspapers. Your not a NZer by any chance?
Also, although the jaw and head are massive. It appears not to have the same large muscle attachments for chewing fibrous plant matter that the other gorillas have. More of a bulldog type of jaw for holding and ripping. Not that I’m any expert.
While you guys were focusing on its feet, size and nose. I was focusing on its teeth. While it’s feet, nose and size are impressive (to say the least), its teeth are frightening. They almost look sharpened. Imagine that thing taking a bite of you. You wouldn’t stand a chance!
How would it be possible to cover something like that up though? As we all know, the more people that know a secret, the more chances there are of it being leaked. So, for genetic manipulation to have occurred on such a massive scale there would have been enormous numbers of people involved. Therefore enormous numbers of leak opportunities.
I can see where you’re coming from Gabriel. If you follow that reasoning then Neanderthal and the earlier versions/ancestors of man would be imperfect trial runs? So the next question is, as we’re not perfect, is there going to be another more improved version?
I think once they’re proven we’ll all be surprised just how many people have seen them. They’ll not have to keep it secret anymore, for fear of reprisals and ridicule.
Also, until they’re protected, you won’t be able to so much as sniff in the woods for fear of mistaken trophy hunters blasting you to smithereens.Just tongue in cheek here, but maybe that’s the answer…. we’re doing it all wrong! We might see more Bigfoot if we go out to the woods, hang several red and yellow circles up and wait till Bigfoot peeps through them. I’ve often said I can never see them unless I have the red circle. LOL!

@ Gumshoguy – Wow! Just imagine sighting over a dozen Bigfoot at one time. You would need some serious counselling after that!
@m99 – I do believe that animals can predict earthquakes. We get quite a few earthquakes in New Zealand and pets act quite weird before we get a bigger one.
