I believe in order to get one of these creatures it will take a hell of a lot more than just a weekend excursion. You will need at least 3 persons that have the capability to live off the land.(like dropping you in the middle of forest with no supplies and still survive) Be prepared to waller in shit to cover your scent and stay that way for days on end. You will still be spotted first but with the proper provisions it may get you close enough to actually get a kill shot.
Weapons- be knowledgeable of what caliber and ammunition you need to one shot a creature that big. You wont need some exotic African cartridge. a 45-70 lever action will and has killed every animal on earth. Even a big alpha 11 ft. 1500 lbs. will drop if you send a 500 grain bullet through its chest.
Even the toughest special forces guys will be at a disadvantage to these animals in their home turf.
One of the first pictures I would take of a dead one would be pulling up the the lips to expose the gums and teeth. Something like that would be extremely difficult to fake.
Realistically you would probably need to airlift the thing out. I’m willing to be any top new organization would help out with that endeavor. If you have a cell phone signal and a smartphone, all it would take is a few pics and video sent and a military chopper will be on your GPS location in no time.
Now the other question is…will they kill you when they show up to retrieve the body??
Have to play it safe and let the public know whats up before the authorities or you will just be another 411 case.

SHANNON – I totally agree these things probably know many things us humans have lost since we abandoned nature and live in civilization. I just think these “flute blowers” are trying ti imply these things have mystical powers.
Linda W – The guy that owns this site rips on the “flute players” opinion so I feel “those people” shouldn’t be shielded by my sarcasm.
Donald B. – Spiritual? Don’t make me laugh. They are about as spiritual as my pet cat. These things are animals adapted to their environment. Might be a bit smarter than your average chimp but not much.

Anyway to keep from being political…Its time to Kill one one these damn things and get it over with. I’m planning a hunt this coming winter and I do believe I’m the guy that can bag one of these “roamers”Since Ive never heard an encounter where a BF enters a building (maybe once) I don’t think they would fall for that.
Kent C, I agree with your assessment. If hunting a BF going in alone would definitely be a bad idea. The ideal target would be a lone wolf male that had been kicked out of his group by the alpha. Ideal setup would be a couple guys with large caliber rifles and a couple more with shotguns loaded with slugs.
Elmer, I agree that taking a BF at long ranges is not the ideal choice. I think a 300 WinMag is adequate for bringing one down but you would want to make the shot at close range to avoid maiming the animal. Hell you might even make a kill shot and the BF could run for a couple hundred yards before it expires and then you have a dead BF you cant find.
I know many don’t agree with killing one and I myself have no desire to kill one but the only way this (as far as science is concerned) is having a BF body. You can have the best pictures, video, DNA or whatever and it wont matter to the mainstream. you HAVE To have a body for BF to be recognized.
