I’ve never been to that area again

A listener writes “Hey wes I’ve recently started listening to your show and it has had me reminiscing about something that happened to me out in the woods of GA around 2009 when I was 17.

Little back store, at this point in my life I wasn’t very experienced in the woods I had spent most of my life playing sports while stomping around in my local woods on occasion. So a friend I grew up with family owned the majority if not all of the land in this small town approximately an hour northwest off of I-16 near metter I believe the town we were in is called oak park. I had expressed to this friend I was wanted to get into hunting so he offered to take me and another friend to the town for a weekend deer hunt.

On our way out to his families property the hour or so after we got off the interstate was nothing but fields and woods the entire way with it becoming more wooded as we got closer. We arrive and we’re supposed to stay in a house they had deep into the wood on their property near a river/creek but recent flooding made accessing the house impossible so we stayed in the main house near the road. On our first day we walk the trail to see where our tree stands were and while our we came across several large cat prints which my friend noted was unheard of so far up and that the flood must have pushed them up that way.

So the hunting begins and the stands were positioned that a couple miles into the wood we hit a fork where we parked the truck my stand was off the left trail about a mile down and the other two stands were in close proximity to one another about a mile down the right trail. First couple days out there were peaceful normal day with a few does coming by my stand.

The last evening we are there doing an evening hunt I’m out in the stand it had been absolutely dead for hours so as night approached I was ready to pack it in and head home. As it gets darker I begin to hear what I thought was the cadence of a bipedal walk slowly getting closer running parallel to the game trail that came from deep in the wood off to my right and ran right in front of my stand. The stand I’m in is sitting up against a very large pine tree so I could not look behind me without standing up and leaning around the tree. I’m hearing a very loud thumping what sounds like a person walking(I’m 6’3” around 300 lbs and I make no where near the sound of this unless I jump and forcefully land on two feet)

As whatever is moving behind me begins to get closer it starts to pause between steps. It gets closer and closer to where I believe it’s 10 yards or so behind me and it goes quiet. So for about 15 minutes I’m debating on if this thing had walked off or what and if I should climb out of the stand as it is pitch black in the woods now. So I decide it’s time to get to the truck and get outta there. Just about that time I hear a loud crack and hear/feel a large tree thud to the ground. Now I’m ready to get going but I know whatever this is is still right behind my stand. So I text my buddies and say hey I didn’t shoot anything but I’m gonna let a few rounds go outta the shotgun and head to the truck. So I get ready climb down and once my feet hit the ground I face behind the tree I was sitting against and let 3 shots go in that direction about 15 feet in the air just in case I’m miss hearing and it is a person. So I take the shots and take off jogging down the trail to the truck. I heard nothing after taking the shots but realistically I’m not sure if It moved or not my adrenaline was already pumping from the tree fall then with the shots added on I may have to missed it moving away through the brush.

That’s it’s it was our last day there so we went back packed up and headed out. I’ve never been to that area again “

I live on GA also and have been a Bigfoot enthusiast for sometime. And although I’ve never been to the area described (my experiences are more north GA) this is another case in an array of cases spanning different areas in the state of GA. Thank u for sharing!!!

Hi Brian, I’ve been hiking and primitive camping along the App.Trail and it’s corresponding Gap Trails in the Chattahoochee Wational Forest (Chattahoochee WMA) in White & Union Counties.

I’m in middle Ga,Warner Robins area.I looked at a map of sightings in Ga not long ago and middle ga has few compared to North and South Ga.I’m actually from South Ga in Berrien cty where there has been a few sightings.

Thanks for your story. Im from ga myself and have had several things happen to me while out in the woods. After listening to all the stories, I have to admit Im alot more aware of my surroundings than I use to be.

The eastern area of Berrien known as Ten Mile Bay is akin to Okeefenokee Swamp,I’ve heard stories of deer and hog hunters run out of there many times by something that screams unlike any wild animal.I believe Berrien has 2 or 3 Bigfoot sightings with the BFRO.
