“It stood up on two legs and ran quickly past us, still holding the chicken”

San Luis Obispo County, California

During the summer of 1974 my sister in law I am were on our way from Lompoc, California to see our respective grandmothers. My sister in law’s grandmother lived in Buttonwillow which is in Kern County, and my grandmother lived in Porterville, which is in Tulare County. It had just grown dark by the time we were about five miles outside of Paso Robles still in San Luis Obispo County on Highway 46 heading toward Shandon, and had just passed a lone farmhouse to our left when I had to pull to a quick stop. Just in front of us stooped down in the road and holding a chicken to its mouth was a creature about the size of a 12 year old. It stood up on two legs and ran quickly past us to the left of my vehicle, still holding the chicken. We turned to watch it veer off to our right behind us and up over an embankment. I asked my sister in law, “Did you see that?” She did.

I don’t know what I was thinking cause I then said to her, “Let’s catch it!” and turned the car around. Then I immediately thought better of it, as it was obviously a young Big Foot, and I was afraid it’s parents might be close by as well and with as fast as that creature ran, who knew the strength of its parents. This creature was covered with long dark brown hair except for its face and region around its belly button, and it was obvious that it was a boy. It had a flat face and a broad nose, and its teeth looked like it could use a good orthodontist.

Now that is an awesome encounter! It’s good to hear about a young bigfoot – and already feeding himself. I can’t wait until we know enough about them to put age to sizes. He could be a 5 year old for all we know right now. Thank you!

THATS A REALLY THICK PLACES AROUND THE PART OF THE AREA THATS SHE TALKED ABOUT A LOT OF COWS ARE AROUND SOMETIMES THE RANCHERS NEVER MISS THE YOUNG CAFES BECAUSE WHEN A BIGFOOT TAKES ONE THEY SNAP THE NECK NO BLOOD OR A MESS LEFT BEHIND …UNLIKE ALL OTHER WILD THINGS LIVING.

Nobody is chasing down a squatch not even a young one. You can also bet mom and pop weren’t far away and if they thought you were threatening Jr., you’d be making your entry into the next 411 book.

Great story and believable for back in 1974. It’s all wine country now. It might be a little harder for such a clan to live in the area now but not impossible. There is tons of activity by man there now. You don’t see any spare land that doesn’t have vines on it now in SLO county. I do wonder if there are any BF’s around the two lakes near Paso Robles, fresh water and beautiful area when not hit by a dry spell? Thanks for sharing your story!

You got that right Nathan E. I just got a coop and 20 chickens a few months ago and I’ve had to eradicate many of the locals trying to get a free chicken dinner. I’ve got to go on the offensive again this wknd for another varmit that has showed up. Nothing in the 8ft tall range yet.

If ‘Squatch is still in the region they must have made the transition from cattle to grapes and have probably traded their stanky cattle trough water and rubbery dead chickens for a dry, crisp Grenache Blanc and a rich, smooth Foie Gras. Best spots to sight one may be at a spa getting a hot rock massage or the ‘Squatch favorite a mud bath.
I have hunted on ranches in the Paso Robles and Parkfield area and it is just teeming with wild pigs so there is a readily available food source there for ‘Squatch there that won’t bring attention to them like cattle killing would….
