I Realized There Were Little Pebbles Landing Around Us

A listener writes “Hello Wes, I would like to introduce myself. I am from North Eastern Indiana and I have been a long time listener and just recently became a member. My husband has been trying to get me to write in for many months now about my encounters. I have started this email many times but could never seem to follow through.

My first encounter happened in the early 90s when I was about 10 or 11. Every year we would camp out at my uncle’s back pond for Memorial day weekend.

On this weekend two of my cousins and I decided it would be fun to sleep in a tent ny ourselves. To preface this night or father’s decided to cook a deer leg over the fire during the night to eat the next day. That night there were heavy rain storms and a pack of coyotes had come into our camp and took the deer leg off the fire. (At least that is what we thought) which woke me up because I could hear them moving around the tent and I could hear them breathing.

During the early morning hours or dad’s came out to get us out of our tent and take us back to the campers.

Come morning time it was a beautiful day. Our parents picked up the mess from the coyotes and is kids were playing around.

The parents decided it’s kids should try and look for puff balls out in the woods that surrounded the pond.

We ( all the cousins)split into two groups. The older 6 went in one group heading north east towards a u- pick apple orchard that boarded the east side of my uncle’s woods. The oldest of the kids Sherist probably mid teens and the younger 4 my brother who is a couple years younger than me my cousin jacob who is the same age as my brother , his sister heather who is the same age as me and myself made up the second group. We headed north towards the woods behind the campers.

About 40 yards into the woods we came upon a clearing that had what looked like a playground made out of trees… complete with monkey bars, a tree to walk up and trees formed to make up a pull up bar. There may have been more “obstacles ” but that is all I can recall.

Us 4 younger kids got excited and started playing on these. My cousin heather and I were seated on the tree structure that looked like a balance beam talking when I thought it started raining. As I sat there hearing what I thought was rain I realized there were little pebbles landing around us. My cousin heather didn’t notice until I pointed it out to her then she saw the pebbles falling around us as well.

We narrowed the direction from which they were coming from to our right where about 20 yards away was a hill maybe 15-20 feet high. We didn’t see where for sure they were coming from but knew that something was throwing rocks at us.

We thought at first it was our older cousins playing tricks on us but we couldn’t see them. At that moment just north of us a 4ft long stick came flying down and stuck into the ground. As I went over to investigate I looked up at the top of this hill and saw what I could only relate to as a native American Indian running away.

As far as a description it was about 5 ft. Tall. It had red wavy hair that was to about its shoulders, and what looked like a loin cloth made out of the same wavy red hair. The skin of this thing was the same as mine which I thought was weird because native Americans have darker skin then that.

I yelled to my cousin’s and brother and asked if they had seen it run away and no one seemed to have seen it. I was getting the courage to walk up that hill to see what it was when my cousin sherist decided we should probably start looking for the puff balls and leave the area. So that’s what we did. I kept looking at the top of the hill but never saw anything else.

I would like to chat and go into more details about this experience.”

I wanted to tell this listener that I am from Eastern Ohio. When I was about 11 yrs old in the 70’s, I was playing in the woods with a group of about 4 boys, me being the only girl. We were huddled around talking when I saw a small pebble arc into our group. It was so small that no one else noticed. I said ” someone’s throwing rocks”. We looked around but all we saw were trees. It was not a particularly dense woods so we could see that there was no one around. We went back to talking and then we were showered by about a dozen or so small pebbles . Some bounced off us and some just fell in the middle of the group. We were a little spooked because we didn’t know what was happening but we didn’t know of bigfoot then. Our group played in those woods all of our lives and we did hear some weird dog sounds (it was a low, guttural moan that we thought were dogs) once or twice that I can remember and maybe a loud crack that sounded like a tree broke and fell over once but that was all. I don’t know if this stuff is bigfoot related but I am glad that we did not know of bigfoot because the woods were a large part of my childhood and I would have been scared if I knew. Salt Fork Park was about 30 miles from us.

I am sure you know Linda, but the area you grew up probably has the most documented sightings and encounters in Ohio, which certainly number in the hundreds and probably many more. Don Keating wrote a book called the Buckeye Bigfoot detailing his stories and others, most in that area which is part of the Coshocton Triangle.

Not many reports I know of in NE Indiana, more seem to come from just above in Michigan, however this may be due to the BFRO not having any investigators for this area. I think they only investigate maybe 5 percent of what is sent to them. However they are numerous lakes in this area, and enough woods for them to move around. There is also a sizeable population of Amish – I always wonder what they may know.

My “experience” was not enough to warrant a show but enough people with these small events in the same general area can show that there is something going on in that area due to the amount of small experiences. I only wanted to throw my 2 cents in since the original poster was the state over. I didn’t see anything. I spent my entire childhood in those woods and that was the only weird experience along with a couple of weird sounds. I hope other people leave their small weird experiences even if they think they are not enough to bother Wes but weird enough to leave on the blog.
