A listener writes “I have a couple of possible Bigfoot encounters to share, but the biggest and most unforgettable experience of my life happened when I was a young boy growing up in Eagle Creek, Oregon.
My first possible encounter with Bigfoot happened when I was somewhere around 12 to 15 years old, probably in the 1970s or early 1980s, while I was fishing for trout in Eagle Creek. I never actually saw anything, but I had an encounter that I have always wondered about and considered a possible encounter with an unseen Sasquatch.
My wife also has her own experience. When she was a teenager, she told me that she saw two Bigfoot-looking creatures at dusk down the road from her parents’ house in Eagle Creek, Oregon, where she grew up. That would have been sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I have no reason not to believe her.
But the event that really stands out to me and to my entire family happened when I was around 10 years old. I am almost certain it was in the late 1970s.
We lived on about 20 acres in Eagle Creek, Oregon. We had cows, chickens, horses, pigs, and eventually sheep. It was a rural area, and many of our neighbors owned between five and twenty acres. I grew up there with my sisters and the neighborhood boys, many of whom I considered almost like brothers. I remember that night very clearly in some ways, even though it happened nearly 50 years ago.
It was dark, probably around 6:00 p.m. or later. The weather was dry, the sky was clear, and it was pleasant enough outside that you didn’t need a jacket. I believe it was sometime during the summer or late summer. I was inside our family room when I watched my Dad suddenly stand up. He walked toward the sliding glass door at the back of the house, looking in the direction of our barn. The barn was probably 100 to 150 feet from the house.
My Dad opened the sliding glass door and walked outside, staring toward the barn. Everyone else got up and followed him outside.
That’s when we saw it. Hovering directly over our barn was what I can only describe as a UFO. The object was enormous. It appeared to be about as wide as our barn and perhaps 20 feet high. It was saucer-shaped, similar to the flying saucers I had only ever seen in movies and on television.
I remember standing there watching it for what was probably around 30 seconds. Then, almost instantly, it moved from above the barn to somewhere out in our field between our house and our neighbor’s property.
It was incredibly fast.
The object hovered there for perhaps another 20 seconds. Then it seemed to vanish instantly. I remember looking up into the sky afterward and seeing what appeared to be the object miles away, hovering to the north of our farmhouse property.
I couldn’t believe what I had just witnessed.
At that age, I had no reason to expect that I would ever see anything like a UFO. The only reason I knew to call it a UFO was because the only reference I had for something like that came from movies and television. It looked like the classic flying saucer large, saucer-shaped, and glowing.
I remember the object having a white glow to it. It wasn’t shining a bright beam of light that I can remember. It seemed more like the entire object itself was glowing against the darkness.
My sisters remember the event somewhat differently than I do. They remember seeing flashing lights circulating around the object and lights shining downward onto the roof of the barn. I don’t remember those details myself. What I remember most clearly is the enormous object hovering directly over the barn.
Whatever it was, it was a sight to behold.
The entire family witnessed it.
I never remember hearing any of our neighbors talking about seeing it that night. My Dad apparently didn’t want anyone to think he was crazy, so he kept the experience to himself. I honestly don’t remember our family discussing it much afterward. It’s possible my Dad told us not to mention what we had seen.
What’s interesting is that none of my living sisters deny that it happened. I’ve actually talked with them about it recently, and their reactions have basically been, “Yeah, that was weird,” or, “That was strange.” None of us knows for certain what that object actually was.
But I know what I saw.
It was large. It was saucer-shaped. It appeared to glow white, and it moved in a way that I have never forgotten. I will never forget seeing it that night. I’m almost 59 years old now, and the memory is still with me.
My Dad is 88 years old now and is still very cognitively sharp. I don’t know if he would want to publicly discuss what happened, but he might be willing to talk about it privately. My mother passed away from cancer at the age of 76.
I have nothing to gain by telling these stories. I’m simply sharing what I remember.
I am a 100% believer that Sasquatch exists. I also believe there is a strong argument that Bigfoot or Sasquatch could potentially be something other than an undiscovered North American ape but I’m not certain what the answer is. There are theories that Sasquatch could be related to ancient great apes such as Gigantopithecus, and I have always found those theories fascinating.
I was also a fan of Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum. I actually saw him at the North American Bigfoot Center in Boring, Oregon, before his death. I didn’t speak with him, but I was standing near him inside the museum while he was there to give a presentation, along with other guests, as I understood it.
And I should probably mention one more thing: I absolutely believe the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film shows a real Sasquatch. I know there are people who have tried to discredit the film and claim it was simply a man in a costume, but I’ve never believed that explanation. To me, what was captured on that film is one of the most compelling pieces of evidence we have.
So that’s my story.
I can put my hand on the Bible and swear that everything I’ve described actually happened to me exactly as I remember it. I can’t explain what that object was. I can’t prove it was extraterrestrial. I can’t explain my possible Bigfoot experiences either.
But I know what I experienced.
And I have no reason whatsoever not to believe my wife when she tells me what she saw. My sisters can also testify that the UFO event happened, because they were there.
These experiences have stayed with me for decades. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I know that what I witnessed that night in Eagle Creek, Oregon, was something I will never forget.”
