A listener writes “Hi Wes, I’m a college prof. and I listen to your show. I don’t have enough info to come on your show because I never saw a sasquatch. However there are two incidents I want to tell you about.
1. In Sept 2001 I got married and we drove around the National Parks out west as our honeymoon. We stopped at Devils Postpile and saw the amazing formation there. I usually go hiking anywhere we stop, so my husband and I started off for a hike into the trails. The place was desolate and pre-dusk, just starting to get dark in the woods. We saw one hiker coming out, but nobody else around or going in. We were not far down the trail when I felt like we were being watched in a threatening way. I felt exactly like your viewers have described, but back in 2001 I didn’t know Sasquatch was a real thing.
So I said to my husband that I felt uneasy, and that a bear was probably in the the area. I tried to fight my gut feeling with common sense so that the hike would not be ruined, but the feeling was overwhelming and I told my husband we need to turn around and go back to the car. I never saw anything.
2. Recently, I was doing a small loop on the Appalachian Trail in northern Virginia near Bear’s Den on top of the mountain, when I heard a loud crashing through the trees. We were almost back to the car, so my 12 yr old daughter sprinted back and got in the car and locked the door. I stood outside the car, thinking I would see a deer come jumping out of the woods. I didn’t. I just continued to hear the crashing, without seeing what was making that noise. It lasted for about 5 minutes, but seemed longer. I never saw anything.
I am a small female, around 5″1 and 95 pounds. I’m not sure if it’s safe for me to hike by myself anymore after knowing about these things. I have bear spray with me at all times for protection from whatever.”

How scary and unnerving that must have been! I highly doubt it was a known predator. A big cat may conceal its self but not for long! May want to consider skipping on the solo outings…if you don’t carry a large caliber..take Superman or a taser next time.Be careful!!!

Well I’m a 5’9 male and about 180 lbs but I’m quite sure that still isn’t big enough to hike alone! I used to quite a bit but I have to agree it’s probably not a good idea.
