I heard ‘monkey chatter’

I want to thank Brian for sending this to me.

Hi, Wes
I just wanted to touch base. I have enjoyed your recent shows. I have been getting the last of my daylily seedlings planted before actual winter gets here. This evening, I was on my deck at dusk loading six trays of seedlings into my jeep so they would be ready to go when I start planting in the morning. On my way down the driveway I noticed the deer were acting nervous and not really running off from my jeep, as usual. They finally went down into the bamboo groves in front of the house when I got out of the jeep. I was on the front deck then sorting through seedlings when I heard the deer running furiously in front of the deck. Because of the bamboo, I can’t see anything down there.

Then I heard something large crashing through after the deer. I took notice of that, but I couldn’t be certain what it was. Then a couple of minutes later, I heard ‘monkey chatter’  further down toward the creek that trailed off into chicken-like sounds that no chicken would ever make. No chicken has that lung capacity and I have heard even the deepest and loudest long-crowing breeds, so I know for a fact no chicken could get that volume. I really took notice of that. I can’t say for certain that it was a sasquatch, but it was definitely nothing I am familiar with from the native fauna. It sent a chill up my spine, to say the least, but I continued what I was doing, but did get in the house before complete darkness had set in.

My house is on a southern slope, about halfway down a hill. Below the house is new-growth woods and bamboo groves that I planted about 15 -20 years ago. On down is the original wood-line from when the hillside was a cattle field with a wooded area at the bottom of the field. My property line is on the opposite side of the creek at the end of the wood line. On the other side of the creek are trailers and partial woods and houses. This was a very isolated area when I grew up, but it really isn’t anymore, but there is still lots of woods and wooded creeks that all converge on the Little Laurel River which flows into the Laurel River, which leads off of the Cumberland Plateau and down to the lake country of Laurel Lake, Cumberland Lake, Norris Lake, etc and to the Daniel Boone National Forest.

I have planted my land below my house for privacy and because I grow 17 species of cold hardy bamboo from China. So my property is very visually secluded and provides lots of places where anything could hide or not be seen traveling through, even with all the houses and trailers that have invaded these once-secluded hollows.

This is not the first time that I have had activity I think may be attributable to possible Sasquatch. I have several other experiences to tell you about once I get my outside work put to bed for the year and have time to properly tell you about the encounters. It seems that the majority of activity I have experienced is either in spring or fall, and I think they travel through using the creeks as roadways, traveling down into the lake country in spring for summer and back up into the true Appalachian mountains in the fall for winter.

I love bamboo, but some of it is literally impossible to get rid of (I made that mistake and got the nonclumping variety). It sounds like Brian did his homework and planted the clumping bamboo, which provides excellent natural fencing and is not nearly as invasive as the runners. A good friend of mine planted 12 varieties in her yard and now has a wonderful fence row of very tall bamboo. Would be very interested to hear what Brian has experienced arond his property.

Some weeks are going to be more than others. I think Wes has to wait for people to come forward. Not every week is going be home runs.Wes does a hell of job compared to what you get elseware. I know alot of weeks where weve had more than two.
