I Have No Idea How Many I Heard But It Was A Large Group

A listener writes “I am from NC. I have been recently binging your show for the last week. I’ve heard several shows involving ghost lights and felt like I had to email you especially after hearing the Ohio howl.

For several years I would go on camping trips at Brown Mt at the Wiseman’s View Overlook, between Morganton and Boone near the Tennessee border. This is in the Pisgah National Forest. Where I would camp would be off of the dirt road leading up to the overlook above the gorge. The ghost lights were most visible during September and October during the night and I seen the multiple times in all colors, sizes, and different movements. The reason I have stopped going to this location is because in 2015 when camping with my family I heard howling similar to the Ohio howl. It was late at night and me and my mother was in one tent, and my dad, brother and the family dog in the other. Our dog Heidi, a big shepherd who was never scared, was whining. Me and my mom both woke up from her and i felt like something was outside. We seen fingers run across the side of our tent and yelled to everyone in the other tent. My dad looked outside with Heidi and nothing was there. After finally going back to sleep we woke up again to howls.

I never had a clue what this noise was until listening to your podcast. They were close, down off the side of the mountain. There had to be more than 20 things making the noise close to being in sync. It was by far the scariest noises I’ve ever heard and went on forever, probably 30 minutes to an hour.

I had always just equated the fingers on the tent to wind though I knew it wasn’t the wind. After hearing the Ohio howl from your show and listening to other audio I have no doubt what it was. My main reason on writing is because I think this area is a hotspot for Bigfoot. I have no idea how many I heard but it was a large group.

Odd when combined with this area is known for the lights (Brown Mountain Lights)

    Can someone link me the full pic of the Bigfoot at the top of the page please? Where you can see his breath. I know there’s a full body one out and I can’t find it. Someone doesn’t believe I saw that pic, gotta prove them wrong…

    Sure enjoyed the story. Scary. I can imagine how spooky that was to hear all of those howls at the same time. One is bad enough. It reminds me of the recording I heard on youtube about six years ago recorded by “bigtotime” twenty minutes of voracious howls and screams like nothing I’ve ever heard. I’m glad your family was safe.

    Not to be confused with Black Mountain- which is about 2 hrs away and has lots of sightings/encounters as well. I live in NC also and am very familiar with this area off Hwy 181 near the Brown Mountain Overlook in the Pisgah National Forest. I’ve camped numerous times off Forest Service Rd 982 which is within 5 miles of this encounter. Anyone who is not familiar with the “Brown Mountain Lights,” look into it- there are some worthy documentaries on unexplained orbs of light that are part of NC folklore. Unlike most folklore, you can go to these overlooks and actually witness the orbs on any given night as I did- went as a skeptic and spent several hours watching them dance around the ridge lines of Linville Gorge. This is a very remote area with an abundance of resources and ideal climate that would support Squatch habitation. Always love hearing the encounters close to home. Orbs/lights are often seen in areas before/during encounters with these creatures. Fascinating to hear this
