I want to thank Jeff R. for sending me his encounter
Jeff writes “I love the show and started listening about 2 months ago. I wanted to write to you and tell you about an experience me and my hunting partner had near Mount Rainier in Washington State. I have to say I thought bigfoot or sasquatch as you call it Wes was nice little stories to tell around a campfire but the creature was not real. It was 2008 and we had come up to this game trail, we were finding tracks of deer and elk. After hiking for an hour we heard something off to our right and up ahead. In the bushes ahead of us we heard this snort/huff noise, kind of like a horse would do.
Deer and elk make the same noise then they will usually stomp one of their legs. I told my buddy that he could take the shot, so we froze and my buddy had his rifle up. It stopped moving and everything was quiet. I tried to mimic the snort/huff sound it made then this thing made a loud, sharp whistle in the opposite direction as us. My buddy put his gun down and looked at me puzzled.
I whistled back, thinking maybe it was a hunter. When no response came I called out to it, still thinking it was a hunter that is when all hell broke loose. Something large and black stood up over the bushes, turned in on motion and took off on two legs in a full sprint for the tree line and it was gone. I have never seen anything run like this thing and it ran like a man too. My buddy was in shock, he actually dropped his really nice rifle to the ground.
It was only a few seconds, I cannot tell you what the face looked like everything happened so fast, I can tell you he was all black and the fur all over his body looked more like hair. He had long hair on his forearms I could see that and he ran kind of bent over, his thighs and calves were huge. I cannot even tell you how long we watched this thing run off….maybe 6 seconds and he did not stop for anything. He would break huge branches that were in his way and then he was gone. Everything went quiet again. After composing ourselves we walked over to where he had originally jumped out of the bushes and you could see where he was laying down next to that game trail. If this thing would have never made a noise we would have walked right passed him and probably never seen him. Needless to say we went home, nothing more happened.
Our friends all say “ahhh you guys saw a bear.” Wes I am telling you the truth this was no bear. I have come across many bears in my life and this was not a bear. It was more like a very hairy gorilla that ran like a man. I am writing to you and telling you because I know how you are with eyewitnesses and you never criticize. Thanks for taking the time to read my encounter.

Good story! Hunters are usually much more truthful than fishermen. It’s a shame the friend dropped his rifle, sounds like the kind of guy I would NOT want watching my back. LOL?

Great encounter. I’m only glad when hunting deer I never had anything but javalina or hogs jump up and scare me! But, I’m not in deep forest either. thank you Jeff R and Wes for posting it.

How fast did it run do you thing?

Jeff, I think you are very Lucky to not be mistaken for a deer or elk…close one friend, be safe out there and no more dropping of guns. I know easy to say when your not there at the time, good job getting out safe…

Thanks Jeff and Wes. Luckily you were not on the menu that day.

Thanks, Jeff. I can’t even imagine what was going through your mind when that thing leaped up and bolted. You both had to have been in shock, to say the least. I am assuming the place he had been laying was hidden from, but very close to, the game trail, as you said you wouldn’t likely have seen him. Maybe that is exactly how some unfortunates are snatched. Very creepy and I am so glad he decided to run away.
