I Don’t Know What It Was

A listener writes “My encounter happened 3 summers ago. My younger friend Jon and I were coming home about an hour after dark from a late nite Pike fishing trip.

I had turned onto my road which is a mile long private dead-end dirt road in the Hoodoo Valley of N. Idaho about 13 miles E. and a little S. of Priest River, Idaho. My road goes straight for a 1/4 mile then makes a 90 deg turn to the right and is then straight again for about 3/4 of a mile. There are about only 5 homes on the road that all set back far off the road and it is mostly heavily forested on both sides of the road.

I was driving my old 1978 ford truck, with my Champion Bass boat in tow on the back (so it makes a lot of noise) and as we came around the 90 degree corner we saw a pair of red glowing eyes quite a ways off in the distance in the middle of the road. As soon as the lights hit whatever this was, the eyes blinked. Then they just stared at us for about 5 seconds. The first thing both of us commented on at the time, was how far apart the eyes were for being so far away and how high they were off the ground they were. We guessed the “thing” was about a 1/4 to 3/8 of a mile ahead of us and the eyes looked to be about 8 inches or more apart and about 8 to 9 feet off the ground. Then the eyes moved sideways about 3 feet without taking its focus off us. Like it had stepped sideways or its head was turned toward us and it took a step forward. It looked at us for about another 3 seconds then the eyes both turned to our right and it disappeared into the trees.

Although we had a camera with us it happened so fast it was gone before I even thought about trying to get a picture. I don’t know what it was, but I do know I have never seen anything like that before. I have never seen any animal that had eyes glow red at night before.”

Saw some yellow eyes about 10 feet off the ground. Knew what it was but damn, it was jaw dropping considering how high it was off the ground. Best to see the eyes and NOT the creature. At least you’ll be able to sleep…
