Gollum like creature

A listener writes “Hi Wes, I’ve thought about writing to you for quite some time, and I think part of what held me back is that I haven’t actually seen a Sasquatch. But there’s another reason, too.

I’ve personally witnessed so many things throughout my life and, more recently, on my husband’s property from UFOs and orbs to strange lights, these weird sparkling light phenomena, what I believe may have been Sasquatch activity, and something I can only describe as mist.

The mist is probably the thing that frightened me the most. And strangely, I haven’t heard many people talk about it. A lot of what has been happening on my husband’s property should probably be told by him. There is so much activity up there, and I’m going to talk to him about whether he would be willing to share some of his experiences.

There was even a researcher from the University of Toronto who moved into a place just up the road from my husband’s property to study paranormal activity because, apparently, the area is known as a hotspot.

A little background might help explain how I got here. My husband and I separated 26 years ago. He eventually bought some land up north and now lives off grid on a 25-acre property that is mostly forest. We reconnected for a while in 2024, and I started going up there to spend time with him. Before that, I would literally laugh at him when he sent the kids texts about Bigfoot. I thought he had completely lost his mind.

He talked pretty openly with the kids and his family about Sasquatch, aliens, orbs, ghosts, and all kinds of paranormal things. He’s ex-military and a total prepper, so before we rekindled our relationship, I honestly did think he might be a little crazy. When we started talking again, I felt like I needed to at least try to understand some of the things he was interested in. I’ve seen quite a few UFOs throughout my life, but I’m actually really frightened by the idea of aliens, so I didn’t want to go anywhere near that subject. I thought maybe I could at least entertain the Bigfoot idea.

The funny thing is, I didn’t believe in Bigfoot at all before this. Not even a little. I thought Sasquatch was basically a folk tale. The first thing I did was Google, “What does Jane Goodall say about Sasquatch?”

When I read that she believed it was absolutely possible that Sasquatch exists, that was pretty much all it took. I wanted to find an honest way to connect with my husband about some of these things, so I started asking him about them and listening to what he had to say. He’s actually the one who introduced me to your show.

He played other things for me first, YouTube videos and other podcasts but none of them really resonated with me. Your show did. It took me a while to understand what you were really doing with the podcast: giving people a place to share their experiences without being immediately criticized or judged.

And after listening to so many people tell their stories, I started thinking that you’ve created this remarkable accumulation of anecdotal evidence. I actually think there is an important place for that in science, especially when there are so many recurring patterns in people’s experiences.

During my time at my husband’s property, I experienced what I believe may have been Sasquatch activity. But there’s another experience I’ve wanted to talk to someone about for almost 30 years. It happened around 1997 or 1998, and I’ve never really been able to understand what happened or even talk about it very much.

When I told people about it, including my best friend and my family, they basically thought I was crazy.

And I have never heard anyone else describe the creature I encountered.

Until one of your episodes.

I think you called it a “rake.” That description immediately caught my attention because, aside from Gollum from *The Lord of the Rings*, it is probably the closest description I’ve ever heard to what I experienced. It was a traumatic experience. But I’m open to telling you about it.

The location where it happened is interesting, too. There were already stories about Ogopogo essentially Canada’s version of a Loch Ness Monster associated with the lake where I was camping when I had this encounter with what I can only describe as a Gollum like creature.

My daughter has also experienced quite a few strange things at her dad’s property. She may have even had an encounter with a Sasquatch on a camping trip where she believes it saved her life. She didn’t think of it as Sasquatch at the time. But she’s been listening to your show, and certain details from people’s stories really struck her particularly the glowing reddish orange eyes and the whoops.

At the time, she thought she was seeing a demon. Now, after hearing some of the experiences on your show, she wonders if it may actually have been a Sasquatch. Anyway, I realize this is a lot to throw into one email. I guess I’ve finally reached the point where I feel comfortable saying, “Okay, maybe there really is something to all of this.”

If you’d ever like to get in touch, we would absolutely love to hear from you. There are several experiences I’d be happy to share, and my husband and daughter may be willing to share some of theirs as well. We genuinely love your show and listen to it pretty much every night. Thanks for creating a place where people can tell these stories without feeling like they’re going to be ridiculed for doing so.”
