Father and son are approached by three large bipeds

I took my son Myles fishing behind Sundown Mountain ski resort. We turned west off of Asbury road on to Twin Springs Drive, where there is access to the stream.

I had been promising my son some night fishing. We sat on a couple of buckets facing south, to the rock out cropping and wooded area across the creek. We were fishing in the deeper water across the creek near the rocks.

We heard sticks breaking and rustling which I assumed were coons, as this is a good coon area. Then we noticed something larger coming toward the other side of the creek from a distance. Thinking that this is one of many deer that we often see, thought nothing of it until we caught sight of it in the back-light of the city or moon from the other side of the hill we were facing.

This was a large bipedal animal, very unlikely to be a person, this time of night without a light (although we were fishing without a light source also). It came up to the top of the rock out cropping direct across from us and stood between two trees. It then squatted down and just sat there watching us. My son was scared, and I was intrigued. Within 10 minutes another came to join the first to his right and stayed just across a ravine. No more than 6 minutes later another came from the south, just to the left of the one squatting across from us. As this one got close, it let out a piercing shriek. Nothing like the calls that are heard on the TV shows. This was high pitched and frightening. The other two took notice and began to move toward the shrieking Squatch. At this point we had had enough and grabbed our fishing gear and ran back to the truck. The GPS location is as follows: 42.514765,-90.842826.

sounds like they had a mom, dad, & juvie come down to the river and see them and watch. if u read the full report, when the son spotted the small one, the “juvie” yelled out, probably out of fear of being seen and felt threatened and thats when mom and pop came over to it. never a good idea to be around any baby anything when mom and or dad are around.

That sounds quite plausible. In fact I have been going over this report in my head. I had read it a few years ago and forgot about it. Glad Wes put it on here. Having heard this scream from very close 30 to 50 feet, although we were indoors and it was in by best buddies back yard at 3 am, the scream often described as a woman being torn apart, does sound like a female. Could the smaller creature have been a female and it is this scream they use to draw attention to themselves when scared or just in need of attention. Now I only heard the scream once. Others have heard it go on and on and it has been recorded although sound quality is usually poor.
Most excellent report with pics and thanks for bringing it here Wes.

Also to mention an opportunity was missed. These guys cleared out and who can blame them. I would have loved to learn what happened when they came to the smaller one. My guess is they would have taken it back up the hill in the direction they came from. I think this was a hunting expedition, probably to get a deer or something else coming to the river. The humans surprised them being there and plans had to change. Interesting that the Father never felt they were in trouble and I am sure they were not.

I thought for sure that this was from an episode The Andy Griffith Show located in Mayberry RFD, along with Andy and Opie going down to the river for some night fishing cause Aunt Bee had some of her gal pals over for poker night! But the more I read it I thought that this was just another family of 3 going down to the river to drink some water, wash up a bit and to see if there were any clams or fish to eat. When the Sasquatch family got there they were really pissed off that someone was at their water hole pulling out their dinner before their own eyes so they let Andy and Opie there know that the have perminate reservations at this particular fishing hole and to get their little human butts the hell out of thar!!! On another note, this is a great encounter to have been spent between a father and son were no one got hurt except for ringing ears the next couple days, to share to their end days. Great story, kinda wish I had such an experience to share too. Great pics. Thanks.
