Face-to-face encounter at dusk

In 2012 near Brookings, Oregon, I took a three day vacation beginning on September the 14th 2012 from Northern Nevada to the Southern Coast of Oregon. I take professional photos for a website I operate and was hoping to get in some great scenic shots before it got to cold and lousy for the rest of the year.

My fiance and I were on a hike about six or eight miles above Brookings Oregon, in Curry county. We were on a hiking trail in a densely wooded area following a trail called the loop trail. This trail is about a quarter of a mile past the area called Natural Bridges viewpoint.

We had gone down the trail without incident, although it was getting dark and I felt as though we needed to hurry to get back, even though there was no reason to. It was just a feeling like the hairs on the back of my neck had started to stand up. I can’t quite explain it, I just suddenly felt uncomfortable. We did not see any other hikers while we were on our way back up the trail, or on the way down.

We stopped walking when we heard some loud snaps in the forest around us, like something was breaking tree branches. We looked around, but did not see anything at first. We decided to keep walking, when we saw some bushes about twenty yards ahead of us sway back and forth. We stopped again and were then assaulted by a horrific smell that reminded me of garbage baking in the sun.

By then, the nervous feeling I had had intensified and I was really beginning to worry about the onset of fog and the fading light. The forest was misty and it was raining lightly. We were climbing a steep part of the trail and I gave it my best push to get to the end of the trail.

As we were finishing the final climb, I turned and looked behind me. I’m not sure why. It was like I knew someone was watching and yet I told myself I was just being silly. When I turned, I saw a head above some tree branches with the rest of the body obscured by the heavy vegetation. The head was covered in Dark, reddish brown fur and was impossibly far from the ground. If this was a man he must have been at least close to eight feet tall. I blinked a couple times convinced I was seeing things.

The thing I was looking at did not disappear. Instead it looked at me curiously for a few seconds and then moved out of my view behind a tree. I grabbed my fiance’s hand, too afraid to tell him what I had seen because I thought he might go looking for it and then made my way back to our vehicle as fast as I could. I am not crazy. This was not a trick of light or fog. Something very large with the face of an ape was looking at me. I will never forget it. The forest became unusually quiet a few minutes before the incident. it was like the crickets stopped and the birds quieted and everything went still. we attributed it to the onset of light rainfall.

Hi Wes, I’m fairly new to this website, and I very much enjoy listening to the episodes. It is not often I leave a comment; however, after researching the fact vs fiction, real vs fake, youtube bullish!t ad infinitum, I came across Coonbo and Bear’s “Bigfoot Outlaw Radio”. Episode 10 (January 2016) was quite interesting as the guest turned out to be the great Will Jevning, but they introduced him as “Brian Sullivan” from Montana. They did not state that they were protecting the gentleman’s identification or profession, which is completely understandable. So why would Will pretend to be someone else on their show? His voice was easy to recognize! Is this something the bigfoot community does frequently? Obviously Coonbo and Bear knew they were speaking to Will and not “Brian”. They could have introduced him as an anonymous guest, but instead it came across as a bold face lie. To make matters worse, not a single person in the comment section had a clue…they actually liked/disliked ” Brian” !!!

I’m sorry if I seem a bit bitchy, just confused. Perhaps they were low on guests or needed one ASAP? I’m here to support everyone and the subject, and I know, Wes, that you are not Will’s, Coonbo’s, or Bear’s manager . . .but what gives?

Jacqueline I have to comment. If you listen close enough you would have noticed that the voices do sound very similar, except that the laughs completely different. There encounters as well are two complete different, encounters also. You should really go back and listen to all of Will’s episodes on the show, VS Brian’s episodes, both with Outlaw radio and SC. I sure once you truly compare all the episodes you’ll find the mistake in which you’ve made.

      @Jacqueline O…you are so wrong!
We’ve had several shows now with Brian as the quest and all of SC early shows with WJ speaking. If nothing else listen to the content with WJ as host; he repeats his personal experiences every chance he gets; totally different stories then Brian talks about.

Sorry you are confused; hope this helps.

Did you see Jayne B’s link? It’s definitely Brian Sullivan, who does sound similar to Will, so it’s understandable why some people could be confused.

I don’t find Duke’s voice all that similar… his has a wonderful raspiness to it, like a smokers voice. Anyway, Re: this blog entry… I wonder why the creature shook the bushes ahead of them? It’s like it was trying to drive them off trail or something… Scary thought I know. I’d like to know if she ever talked about it to her financee? What did he think/say… Very interesting story.

You folk’s are pretty funny! Completely off-topic! I do get a kick out of it. Now, if the red-ish Squatch, that was checking out the dame as she was climbing up the hill (from behind, by the way,) if he sounded like Mr. Jevning, well, that would be something to talk about! I don’t know, but I think the big lads’ are probably fond of watching women, especially from be-hind. (HA)!

When Duke was first on here, I reared, leaned in, and listened a few times. Yeah, at first, he sounded like Will. But there are differences in both their verbiage and laugh.

The 2nd time Duke was a guest here, I didn’t hear ‘Will’, I heard Duke. So, I guess it was just that initial first time…
Everything is different, the first time 😛

Nice!… im first to comment about this post…. oh 2nd… Like this women’s encounter, I wonder how many times people get that feeling in the woods, and how many of those times its actually a creature..???

I was in that area and I did not want to seem like a real sissy, but I felt very exposed while I was there. I was thinking about a relocating to Brookings from Northern Cal, Valley Ford area. I cannot tell you how glad I am that I don’t live in the woods! I like the open rolling hills of my horsie ranch here just fine. No place for squatch to hidey hole in. My husband is total skeptic, even though he just bought me a cool 2 foot Sasquatch statue from Ace Hardware in Sebastopol. I wish I could find a g friend to go to East Texas to hear Bob’s squatches, but no one I know has the same interest as me.

maybe, if Will or Duke or if Wes could make a clear up the matter you’d all get some closure, maybe Duke could squash the matter then and do a show right afterwards on mountain giants, hope he’s got heaps more, f”it, Duke come back anyway.

Thank you everyone for the responses and the link. I was pleased to hear that they are indeed two separate individuals who happen to have similar voices. Anytime I come across something suspicious (i.e Rick Dyer) I feel my heart sink in despair. . . the sasquatch community needs no further chaos and drama! I feel Duke should let his audience know that his name is also Brian Sullivan. For example, here on SC Episode 187 he is introduced as “Duke” with no indication that he is also Brian Sullivan. However, on Bigfoot Outlaw Radio, Coonbo and Bear refer to him as Brian, never acknowledging that he is also known as Duke. . .strange? But at least the matter has been cleared up.
