I liked theses three short stories. The BF visiting the zoo was my favorite. I like the fact that they dog got the best of the BF for a change. That must have been one bad Ass dog. The commies usually have those huge bear attacking dogs that I forget the name of, they are huge dogs…

Karelian Bear Dog. They are a spitz type breed, but are black and white, colored kind of like a Border Collie.
I have seen them used to herd a large grizzly away from the visitors center in Glacier National Park. They aren’t for hunting, just for herding bears, to keep them away from people and places. Beautiful animals.

Well, I don’t claim to be an expert, but saw them in Montana that time and talked with the handlers for a bit.
They were beautiful dogs, very bright and intelligent eyes and had an energetic and happy temperament.
I just looked the breed up on Wikipedia and it said it is a breed from Finland, bred to hunt large animals.
The handlers in Glacier Park said they did not hunt with them, they used them to ‘herd’ bears away from people and this was the visitors’ center at Logan Pass. (The bear that was there was a grizzly, it looked like it was almost the size of a Volkswagen.)
The breed standard for the dog is that both sexes weigh from 44-50 pounds.
