Encounter in Connecticut

A listener writes “December 26th of 2017 was both my birthday and a day where I laid eyes on a 6 foot tall creature who moved with a mythodical swagger.

My friend and I set out to dudleytown, an abandoned town within the northwest corner of Connecticut. When the sighting occurred, we were around 5 or 6 miles into the woods following the old road where a stone wall still stands. The first hour spent in the woods was full of trying to navigate to where the town and possibly some buildings were.

We followed multiple game trails at first, but always turned around to stay on the mail trail that we came in from. Darkness was approaching and we didn’t want to be lost in the freezing cold with nothing but our cell phones with less than half a battery. During the first hour, I heard a short “whoop” of some sort coming from the trees ahead of me.

This was about a half mile off the main trail right before a frozen stream that I was literally about to jump over when I heard the noise.. I noticed my buddy was on his phone like he always is and missed the sound.. I kept all of this to myself, due to the fact that my friend would not hesitate to turn around if I mentioned anything that startled him. After I heard the whoop we set off for the main trail and continued walking. Once back on the main trail my friend and I basically took turns hearing noises off in the distance.

At one point I started noticing something walking through the woods parallel to us on the hill top. Once I realized it was a continuous flow of noise, and not something just passing by.. I put my arm in front of George and stopped us from walking. I then heard 3 steps from just beyond the treeline on the sort of hill that was to our right. We started walking again when not even a few steps I heard movement again. I decided to stop and listen and stopped us once again. Same thing, a few steps after we had stopped.

I couldn’t tell if they were bipedal or what, but none the less it was loud enough for me to hear it with a winter hat and two hoods tied tightly around my head. After hearing the few steps we stood in silence for a few seconds and heard nothing. We started walking again and heard the noise moving faster this time and covering more distance. We would walk around 50 feet while whatever was on top of the ridge was covering more ground then us and simply wait for us to reach it then begin the same process. This continued for a mile or two then stopped out of nowhere. After that we kept walking for a few miles maybe.

We reached a frozen stream that I jumped across while by buddy was a few steps behind. I remember him saying “the energy has changed. we need to go” and he began walking pretty fast back on the trail. I stood there, hoping to see anything I could. I stood there around 30 seconds, taking deep breaths smelling the fresh cold air and looking around intently. I looked at my buddy and realized he was kind of far for my comfort. I hopped back over the stream and began walking back slowly, kind of pissed that the journey has ended so quickly. Once I was about 6 feet or so to by buddy I looked back, and saw something ill never forget. At this point it was almost completely dark and I saw this creature around 6 feet tall take 2 lateral steps near by tree where it spun its body around it in order to hide its shoulders . I kept walking and told my friend to stop running and shined the flashlight behind me the whole way back.

Hope you get the chance to read this, I am a big fan.”

Would love to hear more! People underestimate the amount of forest in NW CT, even the NE corner has large tracts. Definitely a livable habitat. Thanks for sharing!

Black bear habitat is my rule of thumb for Sasquatch habitat. NW CT is very heavily forested and is a watershed that goes far north into MA. I have spent lots of time on the roads there….the curvy roads are perfect motorcycle “habitat”….I did some fly fishing but no overnight camping so no encounters. I lived in the Southwest part of the state for 10 years for commute access to NYC but we had bears, moose occasionally in New Canaan….40 miles from NYC. The extra 50 miles north to Cornwall/Kent is a world away. Vast tracts of forest, farms and homes spread out. Not much different than the rural southern USA. We don’t have the true wilderness of the west…eg. Montana where I am now but plenty of room for Sasquatch to make a living in CT. It is also a straight shot due north to Williamstown MA where there have been recent sightings (I know Williamstown very well so I remember the sighting) and Whitehall NY is just a little bit farther north but all on same or adjacent watersheds. Follow the water, find the Squatch!

Dudleytown is a serious no-fly zone from what i’ve read, so its pretty ballsy that you were hiking back there in the first place. There have been a bunch of sightings in the Burlington/Bristol/Naugatuck area reported here in blog and episode form. One was on a large lake that has to be Candlewood. I’ll post the episode numbers. There is more going on in our little state than people realize.
