Curlew Lake Recordings

Grassman58 posted some recordings captured at Curlew Lake. Curlew Lake State Park is a 85 acre camping park, eight miles from the Stone Rose public fossil dig and the charming gold rush town of Republic. The Lew is one of the most relaxing campgrounds in Washington, a great destination for a quiet day-trip or overnight adventure. Water and snow sports are popular activities, as well as natural history and archeological study.

I think what the Grassman captured was loons but around the 3:52 mark something else is howling. It might be nothing more than a coyotes but this was a great recording to show that it is important to understand what wildlife is out there so when you hear a strange sound you can identity it. Here is what a loon sounds like:

The grassman writes “We spent a few days camping up above Republic, Wa. at Curlew Lake State Park. Over the last couple of years we have gotten several reports of possible bigfoot type screams and howls from some of the locals living around the lake. So we set up our recorders every night and we captured a few things. I suggest you use headphones for the last vocal sound. Because it is at a distance. Tell me what you think.”
