Could a Bear Keep You Safe in the Wild?

Did a bear help a 3-year-old boy survive in the woods? That’s what Casey Hathaway says. Casey went missing last month after he wandered into the woods while he was playing at a relative’s house in North Carolina. His disappearance prompted a massive search that made national news, with hundreds of searchers joining in to look for the boy. Three days later, a neighbor heard cries coming out of the woods. Casey, who was tangled up in a bush and calling for his mom, said a bear kept him safe.

As soon as I read the article I felt that was not a bear. Besides what bear would have the ability to lead this child to a safe location to be found? Just saying.

The child wasn’t lead anywhere or a particularly cared for, according to the child the bear just laid next him ( which inadvertently prevented hypothermia ) and he followed the bear sometimes and the bear followed him, he even said the bear walked slowly. It’s not absolutely insane, many folks have reported bears coming up to people not views as a threat. When I was young a man from AK told my grandpa and I when he was a boy he slid down a small hill side but broke his ankle, and that limping hurt to much so he was crawling, which his dog at his side. A bear approached and both him and the dog where defensive but the bear followed him no showing signs of aggression and when the allowed the dog to get close to him and sniff he too quit trying s are the bear away who allowed the boy to touch him and followed him to a clearing that had people looking for him and then left. He said the bear acted much like his dog and kept trying get him to stand with his nose. When they took breaks the bear sat there with him and his dog. I believe that man as he was not prone to lie or even entertain people with stories. Of course he was only disabled not lost and found within the day. But it can happen. Think because of other depictions squatchers default to Bigfoot at the drop of the hat. Lol jmo

      Wow, love that story.
And I agree… there are many documented cases where carnivores seemed to care for what they would normally consider as prey but did not because of youth or injury. (Though I was also compelled to write about this event speculatively seen from a possible Sasquatch’s eyes)

A bear, sure it was. It has been over a year since this happened. The kid was gone for over 2 nights in weather that was rainy and one searcher stated the temps got down to around 20 degrees and stated there is no way a kid in a small jacket, windbreaker type survives the nights. Others stated the kid’s mother is either a head case or drug addict or both, maybe this is why they interviewed the aunt, I am not sure. I stated, as did many at that time, it would be more likely Bigfoot related and I still stand by this. Over the years I have heard about a dozen or more reports of Bigfoots, especially female Bigfoots of saving or rescuing children, including one from the later 1800 in the Manistee National Forest off one very similar. The young girl in this case stated the wolf kept her warm at night. I also remember Wes interviewing that gentleman that was rescued from a swamp by a female bigfoot. Casey upon going home wanted to watch Netflix. His favorite program is Masha and the Bear. Take a look at the 1.40 mark or pull up others and you will see a bear more human like and human animated than Yogi Bear, which I loved as a kid, could ever hope to be. This would certainly fit what a 3 year olds opinion of what a bear would be. Hopefully when Casey is a little older, someone can interview him when he has a better sense, and maybe the truth can be known.
