A listener writes “I’m originally from Iowa but I’ve lived in the PNW for the better part of the last ten years, and I’m currently in Portland. I did live in Olympia for a few years in my early twenties, too. I’m 31 now, and since I was 21 I’ve gotten pretty into backpacking.
My buddy who’s also from Iowa and helped me move out here back then was hyped on the idea of backpacking and we sort of learned to do it together by winging it out in various trails in the Olympic Peninsula. Since then, I’ve done a ton of trails up in the Peninsula, as well as a few places in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Last summer, my backpacking buddy (who lives in Tacoma these days) was getting into class 3 scramble routes up in the North Cascades.
I had never done one before, nor had I ever backpacked up there, just driven through many times. He asked me if I wanted to try out Kaleetan Peak with his climbing buddies and then sleep on Melakwa Lake, which is still at least six miles or so from the parking lot, but five miles from the ascent so it’s an eleven mile approach. I said heck yeah and hopped on the Amtrak that Friday to go up and meet them.
We headed to the trailhead first thing in the morning on August 10th, 2024.At this point in my life, I had never experienced anything that strange in the woods other than once in the Peninsula in 2020 I woke up under our tarp in the rain (we always cowboy camp) seven miles down the Skokomish River at around 4am as though I’d heard something snap a twig or something, and when I looked into the darkness I saw a sort of “vision” or flash in my mind’s eye of a strange one-eyed potato-shape being looking at me. It was odd and felt like something was saying hello or something, but I just shrugged it off and tried to go back to sleep.
Anyway, I’ve been thinking about contacting you about what I saw at Kaleetan for a while now and I just listened to the Round Butte story tonight while cooking dinner and decided to finally contact you. My story is nowhere near that intense, but I did see the same kind of orbs in the back country from Lake Melakwa. If you decide to talk to me about this one, it might be on the shorter side and I can share more detail. But basically, we made camp at Melakwa and took lighter packs up to summit Kaleetan. On the way up, one of our crew of five, plus a dog, had one of those single-lens binoculars.
We all passed it around and looked at people summiting what I think was Chair Peak across the way. When it was my turn, I saw two people on the peak, and they looked like little ants even through the binocular. But I could see them taking selfies and stuff like that. I then looked over at the next peak over, not very far to the left on the same ridgeline. That’s when I saw someone summit that one too right in that moment as I looked at it. I even yelled out, “oh wow there’s someone summiting the next peak too!” My friends thought that was cool and I took the binocular down to point out the peak to everyone.
Then I looked back through the binocular I noticed the person seemed like, really tall. That’s all the detail I made out though because right then, it looked like the person just jumped off. Like a huge leap off the other side of the mountain. No one I was with seemed to care really except for me saying that seeming weird (none of them are into thinking about the unknown really either, just rational explorers).Anyway so I had a weird feeling about that the rest of the day but we summited Kaleetan which was awesome, and got back down to our site before dark.
That night we were pretty excited because it was the night of the Perseids Meteor Shower. The three of us and the dog who stayed the night cowboy camped on the ground, and I had a dome tent posted up which we used to store our gear and hold the spot during the summit, but I set up my spot right on the ground in front of it. I could see Chair Peak and the other peak with the figure from where I was laying as well as the ridge line past it. Basically, after dark we were waiting for meteors to start and my friend’s dog started wigging out, like she was freaked out by something. Her owner thought that was super odd since she’s been a backcountry dog her whole life and took her for a walk.
I thought I had seen some lights up on the other ridgeline, the one behind Chair Peak, but my buddy and I determined it was a rising star creating the illusion of movement in the trees. We had seen a couple baby meteors by this time, but about two minutes after we debunked the lights in the trees, we saw a ripper of a meteor cut across the whole sky. Immediately after that I looked back at where I thought there had been lights and there were two huge and extremely bright white orbs of light suspended in parallel right above the ridge line, right where that star we had debunked had just been. As I looked at them and realized what they were, they both started moving in unison upwards and that freaked me out. So I yelled at my buddy and he looked at them upside down since he was laying the other way. But he confirmed he saw them and we both watched them stop and hover, then symmetrically sort of arced away from each other and went back behind the ridgeline. That’s all I saw but it definitely shook me being that far in the backcountry. It eerily felt like they were showing themselves to me specifically. I felt helpless because they seemed so close and we were so far away from the car and it’s super unsafe to hike in the dark with cougars and all that.”
The Confessionals writes “In episode 752: Born For War In The Unseen Realm, Tony is joined by Mike, who shares a lifetime of chilling encounters that trace back to one fateful Halloween night. As a young boy, Mike had a shocking run-in with a man in a red devil costume; a sinister encounter that seemed harmless at first, until strange changes began taking over his life. From being drawn into dark dreams and blacking out while creating violent drawings, to speaking with mirror entities and losing toys to unseen forces, Mike’s story unfolds into a tapestry of spiritual oppression and eerie visitations.
But the darkness didn’t stop there. Mike details haunting experiences with shadow figures, entities whispering by his bedside, cursed objects, and a bizarre connection to a haunted book that seemed to literally pull him inside its pages. As Tony and Mike dig deeper, the pieces start to fit together; encounters with Lilith, strange ties to Freemasonry, and a chilling family connection to Disney World’s darker secrets all paint a picture of spiritual warfare that began in childhood and escalated into adulthood. It’s an episode packed with hauntings, hidden forces, and spiritual battles, and it all started with a simple grab of the wrist.”

The Shag Harbor UFO incident is one of Canada’s most intriguing and well-documented unexplained events. It occurred on the night of October 4, 1967, near the small fishing village of Shag Harbor in Nova Scotia.
Around 11:20 PM, multiple residents witnessed a low-flying, brightly lit object descending from the sky and crashing into the waters of Shag Harbor. Witnesses reported hearing a whistling sound “like a bomb,” followed by a “whoosh,” and then a loud bang. The object was seen floating less than 1,000 feet offshore before it sank beneath the surface.
Believing it to be a plane crash, local resident Laurie Wickens and his friends contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). RCMP officers, along with local fishermen and a Canadian Coast Guard cutter, conducted a search for survivors. They found no debris, bodies, or survivors, but did observe a large patch of yellow foam on the water’s surface.
The Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax confirmed that no aircraft—civilian or military—were missing. The Canadian military, including the navy’s Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic, conducted an underwater search over several days but found no trace of the object. The incident was officially classified as a “UFO” in Canadian government documents.
A listener writes “I’ve been a listener for quite a while, and finally decided to write down my experiences. The first happened in the mid 1970s, and the second in the late 1990s. I’ve also had a few odd paranormal-ish experiences, but not sure if they’re relevant.
I don’t know the exact year of my first experience, but it was in the mid-1970s, so I would guess I was between 5 and 8 years old. I grew up in east-central Wisconsin near the shores of Lake Michigan, roughly halfway between Green Bay and Milwaukee, in a rural area that was largely farms and farmland, but with single family homes scattered here and there, often separated by fields and/or small tracts of woodland. My parents and I were going on a road trip, and they’d risen well before dawn, before the first hint of dusk was in the sky. In the pitch black they had gotten me out of bed, and put me in my sleeping bag in the back of our station wagon which was parked on the driveway outside our garage. I’ll point out that this was unusual, and was actually the only occasion they’d ever done that. Our trips usually involved camping, which meant packing a bunch of gear into the back of the car, but this time there was room for me to stretch out and sleep. My assumption is the trip was probably to visit our relatives in Wyoming, which meant two full days of driving, and would also explain why they decided to leave so early in the “morning”.Being moved from bed to car had woken me up, of course, but I was quickly getting comfortable in my sleeping bag.
The garage was still open and lit by a single ceiling bulb, and my dad had left the car dome light on for me, but neither provided significant illumination. I heard my dad go back inside, shutting the door loudly, in his usual manner. I was just getting comfortable and beginning to nod off when I was startled fully awake again by what sounded like the “tap-tap-tap” of a fingernail on the car window. Several thoughts shot through my mind in quick succession. The first was “I thought dad went inside”. I decided he must have come out again, but what did he want, and why would he tap on the window? Lastly, I realized I hadn’t heard the house door slamming shut, and that puzzled me the most.I’d been lying on my left side, head toward the front of the car, and the tapping had come from behind me on the driver’s side. I slowly rolled over halfway and turned my head to look where the sound had come from.
There was some interior reflection on the windows from the dim dome light, but I could see there was something outside the car. I stared at the window trying to figure out what I was seeing, and then realized that there was a face looking back at me. Not my own reflection, but something outside. This was not a human face. It seemed to be something like an evil looking wolf/dog with tall pointed ears and a long muzzle. It was motionless, but its eyes were fixed on me, staring intently from beyond the glass with its mouth just slightly ajar. A wave of fear swept over me. It was motionless, which made me question what I was seeing, and I wondered if the dim light was tricking my eyes with some strange reflection. Despite my rising fear, in my confusion I squinted my eyes, trying to figure out if this was just some odd illusion.
As if reacting to my squint, the creature jerked its jaw open a bit wider, menacingly showing a bit more teeth. I was convinced – not an illusion! In my terror I spun round throwing the sleeping bag flap over my head to hide from the sight of the horrible thing. What happened next I can’t explain. Maybe this type of experience just makes a child’s brain shut down, because despite my terror, I must have somehow fallen asleep while hiding in my sleeping bag. The next thing I knew, I was woken up by the sound of the car’s back hatch opening, and I suddenly remembered the monster. I threw the sleeping bag flap from my face in a fight-or-flight moment, preparing to scramble for my life over the front seats. But to my relief it was my dad loading luggage into the car, and in a minute or two we were on the road.As frightening as the experience was, I never said anything about it, either to my parents or anyone else, until only very recently.
I’m not certain why not, but I guess because I had no explanation for what I’d seen, and it had been so incredibly strange and terrifying, I probably doubted anyone would even begin to believe me.If I had to put a name to what I saw, I’d simply call it a Werewolf, whether or not it was an actual shape-shifter. I only saw its face, but the head gave me the impression of an upright body, and it was clearly intelligent and purposeful, because it actually tapped on the window to get my attention. My second experience happened in August of 1997 while visiting a college friend at his parent’s house south of Grand Rapids, Michigan. We both enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, foraging, and the like, and since we had several days worth of time we decided to go camping. We were able to find a camp ground at a location called Ely Lake to the southeast of his parents place, and headed there for one overnight. It had been very dry that August, so when I set up my tent I didn’t bother putting the rain fly on it. We lit a campfire and stayed up relatively late, which was normal for us, and finally hit the sack around probably 11:30 or midnight.
I’m not sure how long I was asleep, but at some point I woke up, I’m guessing probably 1:30 to 2 AM-ish, and since there was no rain fly obstructing my view, I decided to check if I could see any stars. As I lay there looking up at the sky, off to the south of us I heard a long, deep, wailing cry, quite far away but incredibly powerful for the distance the sound had apparently traveled. The first words that went through my mind were “what the hell is that!?”. I lay still and listened, and the call was repeated another 4 or 5 times, at intervals of maybe 15 to 20 seconds or so. While listening, I racked my brain trying to identify the beast. I guess I’d say I have a moderate knowledge of the outdoors and wildlife. I’m no novice in the woods, but not an expert either.
Growing up I’d been taken camping every year, had canoed the Boundary Waters in Minnesota, and had gone grouse hunting each Autumn with my dad. What I was hearing didn’t fit any of the categories I had. I’d also grown up across the road from a dairy farm, and I’d heard cows bellow many times, and I was sure whatever this was was at least that large, and maybe bigger. So I knew it wasn’t a cow, and I didn’t think elk or moose made that kind of noise, and anyway this was southwest Michigan, not the U.P.
After the several cries I didn’t hear it any more, which was fine with me. I realized that, whatever it was, it had to be huge, and I was glad it got no closer than it had been. I fell back asleep, and by morning wasn’t thinking about it anymore, so I never even mentioned it to my friend. It wasn’t until a couple years later that I became interested in the Sasquatch phenomenon, and perusing audio files online (probably on the BFRO website) I came across the recording of the Ohio howl. When I played it I was stopped cold because it was almost exactly what I’d heard that night in Michigan. I was speechless realizing that I’d actually heard a Sasquatch myself.”
Tonight I will be speaking with Corey from Central Oregon. Corey in 1994 was partying on Round Butte. That night turned into terror as the group was spot lighted from this large ball of light in the sky. On their way out Corey and his friends saw a large creature and decided to give chase. The night gets much stranger.

Thomas writes “I had a definite undeniable to me Bigfoot sighting. The location was on our family farm in Taylor Co Ga. It is easy to find online. Our farm was sold to the people that are building the new PGA golf course called Fall Line. The area is a Mauk Ga address.
It was a late October day around 4:30 pm. I decided to go on an informal hunt. I had tennis shoes, blue jeans, and a red flannel overshirt that was unbuttoned and I had a t-shirt underneath. I just grabbed my bolt action 30-30 and headed out. I was going to walk up the hill from my house and come into the back 40 from that area. I was about 40 to 50 yards from the top of the hill where there was a hog wire fence on the property line and I saw a black thing just on the other side of the fence and it was barley wiggling. I looked at it through my scope to try to identify it and all I could see was black fur and it looked like a rectangular piece of black fur carpet and it was barely wiggling.
I could not make it out and started ruling out animals like a 40 pound coon or a hog. I started to stalk up on it. I could hear the closer I got to it the sound of leaves rustling in front of it that seemed to match the wiggling motion. I got within 20 yards of it and still couldn’t make it out. No head, tail, legs, just a black fur rug. At this point I just wanted to know what it was and I dropped my gun down to a one hand hold on my left side and started to angle to the right to be able to see it. As soon as I took a few steps it turned its shoulder to the right and looked at me. It had a surprised look on its face. Eyes and mouth wide open. It was squatted down and started off on all fours then stood up and ran the rest of the way to disappear into the woods. It was covered with pretty black 1to2 inch fur. No mange. No hair on the face that looked human flat with gray skin. When it was on all fours it never looked away from me. I saw some white in those wide open eyes. Conicle head. 5 feet tall narrow at the waist. No smell. I never felt in danger.
I couldn’t find anything in the leaves and the sand was disturbed but no tracks. I went back to the house and to this day I am trying to figure it out. I have told a few people through the years and never got a good reaction. It would be easy to call it a undiscovered primate but after years of processing what happened before and after the encounter I am just not sure about it. I wish I could have seen it for just a little longer.
If you can picture this with Black fur walking up from straight behind it is the closest as to what I can describe I saw walking up on it.

Comparison to first photo my sighting had a little more pronounced conical head. Had less hair on the face. More lean or skinnier but muscular and more narrow at the waist. The face was more like the second drawing. The hair on the one I saw was a little more prettier or better coverage than either of these drawings.

PORTLAND, Ore. KOIN 6 writes “A brand-new Bigfoot festival kicked off at Mt. Hood on Friday night — an event that’s sure to bring out the believers, the skeptics, and everyone in between. While the northwest has several Bigfoot-themed events, organizers say this festival in Welches stands out.
“You come with an open mind and a willing ear and you’ll be enlightened for sure,” said Lori Cabantoy, organizer of the Mt. Hood Sasquatch Festival. Cabantoy also says the festival brings hundreds of Bigfoot fans face-to-face with top researchers, authors, and paranormal experts.
Enthusiasts are on a mission to piece together evidence that could spark a major breakthrough in cryptozoology — the hunt for hidden creatures, like Bigfoot. Jimmy Toungate says he got hooked after two possible encounters, with the last one coming while driving along the interstate in North Bend, Washington.
“I (saw) something like eight feet tall, cinnamon-colored hair,” he said. “In my mind, (it) just kind of locked up for a second. I was like ‘Did I really just see that?’”
Whether you’re a seasoned squatcher or just squatch-curious, this legendary event mixes forest vibes, family fun, and a touch of mystery. “We just really wanted to glorify the mountain and really highlight the beauty that it is,” Cabantoy said.
“If you’re ready to get your Big-foot in the door, weekend passes are $40, or just $25 for Saturday only.

The Falcon Lake UFO Incident is one of Canada’s most renowned and well-documented UFO encounters. It occurred on May 20, 1967, near Falcon Lake in Manitoba. The incident involved Stefan Michalak, an amateur geologist and industrial mechanic from Winnipeg, who reported a close encounter with an unidentified flying object.
On the day of the incident, Michalak was prospecting near Falcon Lake when he claimed to have observed two cigar-shaped, metallic objects descending from the sky. One of these objects landed nearby, emitting a sulfurous odor and a hissing sound. Michalak approached the craft, noting its seamless metal surface and a door-like opening from which he heard muffled voices. Assuming it might be a secret military vehicle, he attempted to communicate in several languages but received no response.
As he examined the craft, it suddenly emitted a blast of hot gas through a grid-like vent, which struck Michalak in the chest, setting his clothing ablaze and causing burns. He managed to extinguish the flames and retreated from the area, experiencing nausea, headaches, and other symptoms consistent with radiation exposure. Medical examinations later revealed a grid-like pattern of burns on his torso.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), and other agencies conducted investigations into the incident. They found elevated radiation levels at the site, although these were later attributed to natural sources. Samples of metallic debris recovered from the site were analyzed and found to contain high purity silver with traces of other metals. Despite extensive investigations, no conclusive explanation for the incident was determined.

The “Swamp Thing of Ottine” refers to a local legend from Ottine, Texas, a small community located near Palmetto State Park, which is known for its swampy terrain and lush, tropical-like vegetation. According to the legend, the Swamp Thing of Ottine is a cryptid or mysterious creature said to inhabit the swampy areas around the park.
Sightings date back several decades and have become part of local folklore. Some people believe it’s a type of Bigfoot adapted to the swamp environment, while others suggest it’s just a myth or misidentified wildlife.
Ottine is a small town about 60 miles east of San Antonio and 15 miles north of Gonzales. One of the main entryways to Ottine is the acclaimed Palmetto State Park. The area itself is an anomaly, much like the alleged “Swamp Thing” as the cryptid beast is named by locals.
While on the edge of the South Texas Plain and just a smidge outside of the Hill Country, you would expect the flattening land to be ripe for pasturing livestock, yet smack dab in the middle of great pasture land and oak forests is a swamp. Parts of Ottine and Palmetto State Park more often resemble a primordial rainforest boasting flora and fauna that more likely would be found in the Florida Everglades or the Louisiana gator country.
One report from woodape.org happened in 2014. The witness writes “My husband and I decided to go to Palmetto State Park on our way home from New Braunfels to enjoy a nice hike. We began our hike at the beginning of the San Marcos River Trail. We were the only ones on the trail that day. At the beginning our hike, my husband noticed what looked like an extremely large foot print to the left of the trail. We didn’t think much of it and kept on our journey.
We came to a spot where you can walk down to the river and swim or fish. We both walked down the bank to the river to check out the spot. After taking a small break, we started back up the bank. I was in front of him when I heard him holler that somebody had just thrown a large rock at him. I thought he was trying to scare me, so I didn’t pay much attention. When we got to the top of the bank to the trail, he told me that something had thrown a large baseball sized rock at him, which hit right behind him in the sand and rolled down the hill. He was visibly upset. We continued on our hike.
While on the San Marcos River Trail, we continued to hear noises in the woods and breaking sticks, but contributed it to local wildlife. Then we heard a strange “howl”. It was similar to that of a cow, but different. Now, I know there are cows in the area, which we heard and saw many times during the hike, but I know what a cow sounds like and my husband grew up around and currently works in the slaughter business, so he has heard every sound a cow can make. What we heard was NOT a cow. We heard this “howl” once while on the San Marcos River Trail and then again when we cut off onto the Mesquite Flats Trail. While on the Mesquite Flats Trail, we continued to be observant of our surroundings, but enjoy our relaxing hike.
Somewhere on the trail not far past one bridge but before another, we both heard a loud crack and falling of a large limb out of a tree right by the end of the first bridge on the trail we had just crossed. We then heard running through the woods. It was not like a person running, but was also not like a deer. It was a loud “thump” sound when whatever it was hit the ground. My eyes immediately scanned the tree line and focused in on a tall black “something”. I could clearly see the thing pass past and between trees.
It was tall and black, but very fast. It was faster than a person. It was not a deer because I could see its silhouette. It was not long. It was not a hog because it was tall and not long like an animal. I was watching it pass through the trees when it just disappeared, like it had stopped or something. I was in shock by what I had just seen.
My husband and I walked back to where the limb had hit the ground to see if we could see anything. Unfortunately we did not have any binoculars, but off in the distance where the thing disappeared from my sight it appeared to be some type of black thing either crouched or standing completely still beside a tree. We decided it was best that we make our way to the trail and head to the end, but we kept watch on the black thing we saw by the tree. The trees got thick and we could not see through for a moment, but when we got to another opening, we attempted to find the black thing by the tree we had just seen and it was no longer there. We continued our walk with ALOT to talk about. Once we crossed onto the Ottine Swamp Trail, we heard the “howl” again, but close and clearer than before. We completed our hike with no other incidents or noises. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen in my life.”
