The first experience I ever had was a similar yell, but high pitched like a mix between a woman and creature shirking probably 30 yards ahead of me on some remote hill in national forest when I was in high school. I used to hike in the woods at night a lot and would bring a spotlight (would not normally use it same with this trek) to keep me safe. That scream was so intense that I froze for what was probably minutes. It was like instinct took over and I was that deer or rabbit frozen in an attempt to evade detection. One of the most incredible experiences to observe my natural reaction to what seemed like being stunned, but I suspect it was a deep rooted instinct that us humans normally do not experience because we are normally not in a position in which we are the prey.
