A Strange Night Hiking

A listener writes “Hello, i want to start by saying that I’ve been listening to your content since “big foot hot spot” and you do a great job, you have created a play form for people to vent and share there encounters with as little backlash as possible.

That being said i figured it is time to tell one of my stories. I’m sure you’ve listened to a few, i would be honored to hear your feed back.

I’ll start by giving you a little background on my self. I’m an avid hunter/ outdoorsmen , and spend every chance I can out in the “wilderness”. I also have a military background and have had , and currently have a job where I spend/spent time in parts of the wilderness not a lot of people venture to. I am located in Washington state but my experiences are in a different part of the state than most of your encounters (most likely) take place.

The first one id like to tell you about is also the most recent, taking place in 2017. I will keep it short and not bother you with all of the details.

Me and two friends left for the mnts about 0230 -0300 on a trip in which our Goal was to cut some wood and possibly scout a new hunting location. Near a state line. We ended up driving down a road that got to narrow to continue driving down, with no way to turn around. At this point we obviously where pretty deep in to the woods and had no cell reception. Here is where the first “weird“ thing happens, we know we have come about 8-10 miles down this trail and we know where this trail leads. It leads to another town in the Neighboring state. Instead of going the way we came , we for some un godly reason decide to continue forward to the other town at the end of the trail. So we load up our pistols (we each hand one , and two of us had extra mags) and start walking , every once in a while I hear odd “owl” calles that sound like they are coming from a speaker turned up to high. But they are a ways off so I don’t really pay much attention. We ended up walking for hours with no food or water. We ended up being on that trail for around 8 hrs untill we ran in to so ppl riding motorcycles and they told us where to get cell reception. We finally get ahold of some one who meets us a few hrs later in the town we are headed towards.

If we would have just gone the way we came it would have only taken us 2-3 hrs to get out of there instead of the 10hrs it took to get to the other town , and to this day we have no idea why we made that decision.

Any way, after getting some food we decide that we need to go back to the vehicle and get a chain saw that we borrowed as well as some rifles that we had left in the vehicle. We didn’t want them to get misplaced.

We had the person who met us drive us back up the the trail head . We got there about 45 mins before sunset.
It was thick enough that no moon light was getting thru. About half way down we started hearing those owls again , but they where right out of eye sight in the trees/ brush. Here is when I started getting suspicious. I started to feel the sound in the ground aswell as it bouncing off of the surrounding trees. There was definently something on two feet pacing us but every time I saw something in my peripherals and turned to look at it it was gone, or at least I couldn’t see it any more. What’s even weirder is the fact that the sound that whatever was pacing us kept changing. It would be an owl for a while, then it would be a coyote, then a crow. All seeming the largest of there breed.

We Finaly got to the vehicle, where we where gunna grab our rifles and the chainsaw. We knew we had a flash light and a head lamp that we where counting on for light on the way out , as we didn’t have any other way for light on the way in. But even tho I my self had put new batteries in these devices not but a week prior , they where both dead. We figured that since they where on the floor board that they had been turned on and drained.

The two of us that had rifles grabed them , and the other guy took the chain saw. As we started getting ready the light inside the vehicle was casting a bit of light out in to the surrounding area. And as I turned to head up the trail I saw two sets of eye shine slightly stagerd “ one slightly behind the other” about 8.5-9 ft off the ground. Because of its height and the owl sounds I “at the time “ thought it was two owls sitting in a tree.

We start heading out in the pitch black. Now every once in a while I can hear what I think is something on Four feet pacing us on the left in the trees. Something big , I can feel the foot falls reverberate in the ground. After a while we then hear something splash across the stream to our right . Shortly after that I start to hear two feet on or left and on our right on the other side of the river. Now because we are tired we have been dead sile t this whole time not saying but a few words to each other when we pick up our equipment at the vehicle. But every time I stop to listen the other two are stopping at the same time , from what I gatherd after the fact because we all had the same sense.

After a while we would hear owl calls on our right being answers by sinaler calls on our left I stoped and said one of the other guys names , that’s it just his name. To which he responded “yeah I know, are you loaded ?” To which I responded “yes”. He relied “turn on music in your phone” at that point I played what few songs I had on my phone on repeat at full volume. After that, the only other sound that I heard that wasn’t drowned out by the music was a deep thud, the kind of heavy hollow thud you get when you drop a 300-400 lb log on wet compacted soil. And that was when we where only 1/2 mile from the vehicle that stoped is off.

The whole trip took about 24hrs and we ended up hiking about 40 miles”

Wow, that’s very scary. I was wondering. Have you guys ever had experiences like that in those woods before? Does it seem like these Sasquatch tribes are getting more possessive of the forest? We live in North Puget Sound region. I am sure curious as to where you guys crossed over into another state. My brain was working, Oregon? Idaho? Even Canada? Can’t wait to hear your story. Thanks for posting.
