A strange looking bear

A listener writes “I’m writing to get your thoughts on an experience I had while driving to my sister’s wedding about two years ago.

I was roughly 20–30 miles south of Traverse City, Michigan, driving around 7 p.m. in July. About a quarter mile ahead of me, a large black figure came out of the woods and ran across the road on all fours, almost like a gorilla. At first, I assumed it was a black bear but it seemed far larger than any black bear I know of in that area, probably in the 500–600 pound range. It had thick, shiny black fur.

By the time I reached the spot where it crossed, I could see it again on the other side, running through a field still on all fours, and moving incredibly fast. What stood out most to me was its head, which looked more like a gorilla’s than a bear’s. Its movement also didn’t match a typical bear. It didn’t have the gliding motion often described in some reports, nor did it move with the low, crawling gait others have mentioned.

For a long time, I just chalked it up to an unusually large or strange looking bear, but it never fully made sense to me. After listening to your show over the past year, I’ve started to wonder if it could have been something else possibly even a Bigfoot.

There weren’t any other unusual elements no sounds, vocalizations, or lights just the sighting itself.

I’m curious what you think. Have you heard of any similar sightings in that area?”
