A monkey looking face popping from behind a tree

A listener writes “Hello, Wes I’ve been listening to the show for a while now and have decided to share my encounters with you.

A little background on me I grew up and live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia which for years was mainly an agricultural area with very little forested areas. As a child I saw the PG film along with other shows and movies about Bigfoot. Really hadn’t thought about the subject very much until just a few years ago as I began to recall some strange occurrences that happened to me when I lived in and traveled around the state.

In the early 1990’s I moved to the south central part of the state where I really began to spend a lot of time in the wilderness. I have always studied animals and know what the native wildlife looks like and I am certain that what I saw where not bears.
My first encounter was in fall of 1993 while hunting on my then in-laws property. As I sat in my blind I started to get the feeling I was be watched and soon started to catch movement out of the corner of my I moving between trees 50-70 yards from my position. At first I thought that my eyes were playing tricks on me then as I watched I would occasionally see what can only be described as a dark, monkey looking face popping from behind a tree. I chose to just ignore this for I didn’t want anyone to think I was crazy, and moved closer to the house and farm for the rest of the morning.

My next encounter happened in 1995 in a totally different part of the state while I was deer hunting with a good friend. I was in blind that sat on top of a rock outcropping that overlooked a creek bottom. I had hunted there before with no strange occurrences until that day. Had been in the blind since about 5:30am and around mid morning I saw a large, dark man shaped figure walking through the trees several hundred yards away. At first I thought it was a person but then realized 1: It looked very large and 2: what fool would be out here on the first day of deer season with no blaze orange. When I reached be hind me to grab my binoculars and looked back it was gone. When I asked my friend if anyone else had been hunting back there with us he said no because he could see the parking area and to walk from the other side of the property was well over a mile and it was much easier to drive the trail.

My last encounter scared me the most and I never even saw anything. In the summer of 1995 my then wife and I had purchased a home far away from any town. We had settled in and I was enjoying the quiet and the space I had for my coonhounds. One night that fall I was home alone about 10:00pm when the hounds began to really raise a ruckus. Not very long after they started they stopped and I noticed a skunk like smell coming from outside. Naturally I thought s skunk had wandered to close to the hounds so I wanted to see who got sprayed. As I walked out side the smell was almost overwhelming, unlike skunk I had smelled before. Tried to call the dogs out of there boxes, but none would come and I could see they were very afraid. That is when the hair stood up on the back of my neck and I knew something was not right. I went back in the house, locked the door, closed all the curtains, and loaded my 12 gauge with the heaviest loads I had and got the two little house dogs (who were scared also) and locked us all in the master bedroom. I stayed awake until exhaustion overtook me and I fell asleep. The next morning the smell was gone and everything was back to normal. Skunk spray just doesn’t disappear! I had never heard that some Sasquatch stink in that way until fairly recently, but all I knew then was something was out there and I did not want to meet it!

Before that night I often went raccoon hunting and camping alone in the woods, never again! Hope this can help other people that have had similar things happen to them. Thank you for giving us a voice.”
