A light encounter in the woods

A listener writes “Wes, I thought I would type of a brief description of the light encounter in the woods.

I had a buddy I worked with and he had coon dogs and loved to coon hunt. This was in the fall of 1995. He asked me if I had any place to take one of his dogs to coon hunt. I told him I a lot of places we could go.

After the season opened in November of 1995 we went out one Friday night after work. We drove down to a huge farm that I had permission to hunt in Southern Ohio. It was about a hour drive for us. I grew up about 10 miles from this farm so I knew the area pretty well.

The farm is mainly steep hollers and thick wooded hillsides with creeks running throughout the property and some small fields for planting hay and corn. We arrived around 10:00pm and stopped at the far back end of the farm. He let his dog out and almost immediately the dog got on a hot track and started tracking a coon trail. Soon it started barking and had a coon up a tree. He shined his light on the coon way up in the tree and I shot it with my 22 rifle. The coon fell dead and we picked it up and went back to the truck.

We drove down the gravel road about ¼ mile and I stopped and we got out and let the dog back out. We went up a creek that came out of a thick wooded holler. His dog got on another coon track and took off. About 10 mins later we hear his dog barking way up in the holler. His bark sounded muffled. We made our way up to where the dog was. He was up on the left side of the holler up top with his head in a fallen hollow log. That’s why his bark sounded muffled. The coon had gotten away so my buddy put his dog on a leash and we started back down the holler toward the truck.

After about going 30 yards I looked to my left to the other side of the holler and I stopped in my tracks, about the same time my buddy did too. What we saw still freaks me out to this day. Directly across from us, on the other side of the holler about 60 yards away was this dark red ball of light. It was on the same level as us only across from us. It was floating about 4 to 5 feet off the ground. It looked to be the size of a beach ball at that distance. It was a very dark red color and it gave off a dark red light for about 6 to 8 feet around it.

I asked my buddy “what the hell is that?” he said “I don’t know, is it another hunter?” I said “I don’t know I don’t see nothing but the light.” My buddy yelled over “Hello?” nothing but dead silence. There was no wind, it was around 30 degrees. We just stood there, in the dark. All I had was a 22 rifle and a hunting knife, I had a flashlight and my buddy had a hat with a light on it. We both shined our lights toward it but they really didn’t light up the area that far away. We kept looking at it; it just floated in the air 4 to 5 feet of the ground, not making any noise. There were no roads up that holler, no homes close to us, just woods and hills. You could see the trees and ground around it. There was no person holding a light.

At this point I hear his dog and he is crouched down close to the ground with his tail between his legs shaking and making a very soft whimper, like he was scared to death and wanted whatever that red light was to not see us.

My buddy said we need to get out of here, as we started down the hillside toward the end of the holler the light followed our movements on the other side. You could see it weave in between the trees, it had a very evil feel to it. I wanted out of there and was so glad it was not on the same side of the holler that we were on.

It followed across from us for about 50 yards before we started heading down to the small field at the opening of the holler. We kept looking over at it and it stopped and stayed up higher on the other hillside as we went lower. Eventually it disappeared as we got down by the field.

We loaded his dog up in the truck, he was still shaking, and we got out of there.
We didn’t say too much on the hour drive back to his house. We never did coon hunt together again.

There is more to this that we can discuss, hope to talk to you soon.”

It is interesting that they said it felt evil. I often wonder if the lights aren’t angelic beings that we are only able to see as balls of light.

Elisabeth Eagle was on C2CAM ( the above) last night documenting these lights. I only listened about 20 minutes but it was interesting. She seemed to think they are angelic. The one time I saw one that was at face level one foot away, separated by the rear truck window, angelic did not come to mind. I always thought they were UFO surveillance craft. Now days I think some are UFO and some are Angelic.
