A listener writes “I just wanted to write to you and share a sighting I had a little over three years ago, on May 23 at approximately 3:30 p.m. I live in northern Utah, and my house sits close to part of the Wasatch Mountain Range.
One day after work, I decided to sit out on my patio with my binoculars and look for wildlife on the mountainside. While scanning the area, I noticed something near the ridge that caught my attention. It looked like a dark, human-shaped figure standing perfectly still next to a tree.
I remember thinking, “What is that? Let’s see if it moves.” Sure enough, shortly after that thought, it began walking and making its way down the slope. It appeared to be moving at a surprisingly fast pace. The figure was very dark in color and looked large compared with the surrounding shrubs and trees. Because I was viewing it through binoculars and it was probably about a mile away as the crow flies, it was difficult to determine its exact size.
It continued down the ridge and eventually disappeared into a group of trees. The entire sighting lasted only about 10–15 seconds.
Even now, part of my mind wants to question what I saw that day. But there are a few things I remember very clearly the figure was dark in color, it moved quickly down the steep mountainside, and its movement looked incredibly smooth and effortless. I also know there were no hunts taking place in northern Utah at that time of year.
That has always made me wonder, what would a tall person wearing dark clothing be doing standing motionless beside a tree on a warm day, only to suddenly take off down the ridge after being noticed and at such a fast pace?
I know you sometimes ask your listeners what they think Sasquatch might be. Personally, I believe it is a physical, biological creature. It would have to be physical to leave footprints, for example. At the same time, I think it may possess physical traits or abilities that science simply hasn’t fully discovered yet.
There are examples in nature that make me think this is possible. From what I understand, polar bear hair is translucent and can interact with sunlight in ways that help them blend into their environment. Octopuses have incredible physical and chemical abilities that still seem almost unbelievable. Nature is capable of some pretty extraordinary things.
So, I think science is always evolving, and perhaps it simply hasn’t caught up with this very real biological species yet. I also believe Sasquatch may have been around for a very long time.
That’s just my personal take based on what I experienced.
I wanted to share my story with you, even though it was only a brief sighting. It may have lasted just 10–15 seconds, but it is something I still think about to this day.”

I wonder if it knew it had been spotted, even though it was at such a great distance? you thought, “ I wonder if it will move?” and then it moved.
