I Know What I Saw

CBS47 writes “FRESNO, California – It’s an age-old mystery − Bigfoot − and whether it’s real or not, and man who says he witnessed Sasquatch popped into Fresno Saturday.

Bob Gimlin, the second half of the legendary duo and film, Patterson-Gimlin, claims to have captured the mysterious creature on film decades ago.”

I Know What I Saw

Friday, October 20, 1967, Patterson and Gimlin were riding generally northeast (upstream) on horseback along the east bank of Bluff Creek. At sometime between 1:15 and 1:40 PM, they “came to an overturned tree with a large root system at a turn in the creek, almost as high as a room”.

When they rounded it, “there was a logjam—a ‘crow’s nest’—left over from the flood of ’64,” and then they spotted the figure behind it nearly simultaneously. It was either “crouching beside the creek to their left” or “standing” there, on the opposite bank. Gimlin later described himself as in a mild state of shock after first seeing the figure.

I’m always happy to see an interview with Bob Gimlin….I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, and my impression of him is that he’s a man of absolute integrity and great kindness. A true gentleman.

I know what I saw

A listener writes “Hi Wes, I don’t know where to start. My husband gave me a yearly subscription for one of my xmas present! ever since then I go back on the episodes I’ve missed. There is one particular episode that really hit home. It was the kid that had an encounter with the mountain giant while he was camping out and traveling the country with his friend. The one that the lodgers equipment got seriously damaged. Then he had another very weird encounter with a man that had a tail.

I’ve always believed in bigfoot as a I called it but I would never would like to have an encounter. Since I was a little girl I’ve been able to see spirits and feel paranormal environments, if we want to call it that way, but to me is not fun at all. Anyway, the reason why I’m writing is because of a very weird encounter I had while I lived in Apex, North Carolina. It happen back in 2008. I lived in an apartment complex that the back balconies faced a wooded area. I lived in the third floor. Back then I was a single mother. My daughters were 4 and 3 years old. This is what happen: I keep waking up in the middle of the night because they were screaming hysterical that a small man keep knocking at their window. This kept going on for several weeks. It was out of control since it happen every day. I thought they were having nightmares just because they were young kids. Then I send them for the summer to be with their father. Then, a couple of nights after that I was in my balcony drinking ice tea and listening to relaxing music in my swinging chair. Something catches my eye in the trees. There, right there, there was a little man hanging, more like grabbing the branches looking a me. He wanted for me to see him. We locked eyes and what I saw really spook me but I couldn’t move, I just stayed there looking at him.

He had a weird face. His faced was in the shape of what I can describe as an native American face mask but it was not a mask. His chin was extremely pointing and was very big. Like his face was too big for his small body. I would say he was like 4 feet high. His expression, if I can call that, was like sort of mad like letting me know he had been in the window and knew the girls were gone. His eyes were shaped like cat eyes and his nose was very pointy going downward. It might sound weird, but the nose looked very devilish. It was such an awkward moment since we both just looked at each other. Then he slowly moved out of sight and I was in shock and when inside my apartment wondering what I had seen! Some people tell me it was a leprechaun, others tell me it was a devilish fairy, and others tell me it was my imagination but I know what I SAW!!!!

I guess he or it moved on when he figured out that the girls were gone since when they came back they didn’t complain any more. I’m used to be ridiculed by believing in bigfoot and by sharing my paranormal experiences but this one I had to share.”

I agree Patrick, I’ve heard of this creature before from a father who lived in Crescent City, Ca. He heard something walk up his driveway, when he looked it was a small blonde haired childlike person with leather clothing. He thought he was there to see his daughter, calling for her the creature turned around, had a old wrinkled face, yellow pointed teeth and snarled at him. Needless to say he called police and later had electric fence put up! Scary!

Totally believe her. What a bizarre and creepy little critter. Hope he got lost for good! Very interesting story and appreciate her sharing

I just had a crazy thought. You know the ability to use cell phones has always been there we just didn’t know how to harness it. But it was there. Who’s to say Sasquatch has harnessed a way to bend light or something which enables it to disappear? That not as weird as talking into a piece of plastic and someone hearing it on the other side of the earth.

  3. James M

My grandma told us kids back in the seventies of the same creature. She and her friend saw it walking home from school when she was a little girl back in Ireland.they called it it a ‘Devil Dwarf’.

  4. Jack33

Contrary to what your parents may have told you, the boogie man, horrific monsters and evil spirits all exist.

Never allow yourself to become too complacent, and always be aware of your surroundings…there’s so much out there we’re unaware of.

  5. Avis B

Thank you for telling your story.. @anonymouslistener … People need to know these things are out there.. Listening to Sasquatch Chronicles, Dogman Encounters and reading 411 Missing.. I have found that we are not the Number 1 Predator … It also seems that they come in all sizes.. I am very glade your girls are safe and sound.. Oh this account also sounds some what like, … Don Neal Bigfoot stories Part 1 The ugly Sasquatch of Kentucky … You can find it on You-tube.. The Bigfoot had the same face as you say this small creature had.. Wonder if there is a connection between the 2 …

  6. hickory67

Sounds like one of the Fae from the description. Hard to tell though. I’d look for circles of stone or vegetation in any surrounding forests, if any. Don’t enter them if found!

  7. Greg T

Proto-Pygmy? Puckwudgie? I had to google those. They’re now on the hope I don’t see ’em list. F that. Good story. Creepy as hell, but good.

I know what I saw

I am trying to contact this witness, the witness writes “I was in Washington state in 92′, I know what I saw standing and looking in my mother in laws window, it looked at me and made a low growling sound, I moved from there a few days later.

I heard your show and it started to come back to me, the heavy footsteps, the breathing, the fear, and it mimicked her snoring,I didn’t understand until I heard others on your show, I can’t sleep without thinking about that night, and now I know weeks before this I was being watched, because I had the same fear prior to that night, we had horses and I didn’t want to go out and feed them anymore, specially after dark ,the place this happened was in the nine mile falls area, which was somewhat rural, I won’t go back.”

Somebody tell me what part of this aberrant behavior normal … There are 366 accounts of Bigfoot’s Window Peeping just like blog above describes and none of it can ever be seen as normal friendly peaceful behavior. It has always left the occupants terrified and scarred with haunting unforgettable memories. That type of behavior isn’t tolerated in today’s civilized society and I suspect is less tolerated when animals to do it. -Just Saying!

  2. Robin B

Ohhhhhh do I ever know what you’re talking about!!! I know that fear of going outside in the darkness to feed the horses! I know that feeling of something being out there! I’m comforted to know I’m not alone and empathize with others who understand me. You can’t ever shake that fear, it gets easier with time but, it doesn’t go away.

    • DrAaron

That has to be absolutely horrible! I have had those nights when you have to run out to the back 40 to fetch a tractor or one of the kids bikes. Somehow this evokes a primal fear that takes us all the way back to childhoods innate terror of the dark. One of the most memorable episode is of the woman who had an older white male peeking in the barn door while birthing a stillborn pony (which it also stole).

  3. Albert R

I don’t know if it is helpful or not, and I may be telling you something you already know, but there is a Nine Mile Falls community nine miles downriver from Spokane. There were falls there before a dam impoundment covered them and it is the site of Spokane House, the first white settlement in that area dating from 1810.

  4. Robert V

Hello, happened to my son. I also suspect it watched me and us. Its,creepy. Look though you are not alone. Others have experienced this fear too. You’ll get through it. Contact someone here who is a good listener. Talking will help. No reason you need to suffer alone. Bob

    • DrAaron

Bob, I am glad you believe your son and acknowledge what he saw. How old was he when he observed it in the window? Did it happen more than once? Were you suspicious of activity prior to his event? I apologize for being nosey!

  5. Robert V

    Dr. Aaron,

My son was about 7 or 8. I lived in Menomonee Falls WI, which is about twenty minutes west of Milwaukee. I lived it what I call a transition town. Twenty minutes to the east your in Milwaukee, twenty minutes west rural to semi rural. We were sleeping downstairs in my grandmothers house. There were two sections to the living room. He was sleeping in the front area. I was sleeping in more of the middle of the house. He came running into my area saying a monster was looking at him. I didn’t really believe him then but I comforted him and let him sleep next to me on the floor. A few years later I was looking at a Bigfoot sight online in the living room of my apartment and my son pointed at a picture of Sasquatch and said that is what was looking at him.

A list of events and things that make me believe a Sasquatch was visiting my Grandma’s house mainly July through October. I want to say I never spotted one. Here is the list: my son and I would feel the need to come into the house when cooking marshmellows outside at night, brother woke me up saying something screamed underneath his window (we were sleeping on the second floor), something hit the side of the house when I was seven or eight, neighbor called my Grandma’s house saying a large “man” was looking at her through the sliding glass windows the creepy part it left a dead racoon on the porch, from little on felt something was watching me from a distant tree line, felt this when walking biking down the road lived on, Grandfather told me to never go into the swamp because “things” were in it, my mom told me her dog went crazy when she ONE time camped out in the back yard, when coming home late would feel something was behind a row of black walnut trees–feel the need to run into the house–my son and I both felt this coming home late from a movie or event, fruit trees would be stripped of their fruit in a night–would be a side of a tree, town west of Menomonee Falls named Sussex has a cast of a Sasquatch print, in sixth grade kid in my class said a “wildman” lived in the swamp–he was picked on for it—it was beleivable to me, my mom was fascinated with Sasquatch, supposely my uncle ran into something in the swamp with two red eyes–from my mom’s story never went through the swamp again, and there was a report of a Sasquatch taking a deer from a pickup truck in a neighboring county. I feel the reason Sasquatch visited my grandparents house is because: six to eight apple trees, row of black walnut trees, grapes, two mulberry trees, a large garden, currents, pear tree, plus my grandfather was a butcher–during deer season he’d have many deer hanging in the three car garage. I helped grind and cut meat. Many times my grandfather after cutting a side of beef would leave bones in the garage or in garbage cans outside the garage. He’d take this meat to a guy who owned pigs, but sometimes it would lay around.

I want to point out I never saw one. This is all very circumstancial. The part that is difficult for me is where this was happening. If a Sasquatch was coming to my Grandmothers yard these creatures are coming up to residential area’s far more than anyone believes. After much thought the only thing that explains these odd events is a Sasquatch.

    Bob

Forgot…the reason we were sleeping downstairs was because my grandmothers house was a hundred year old farm house…it was August…no air in the house…so we slept downstairs. The upstairs was HOT.

    Bob

    • Charles R

Well Robert V, all this to me adds up to having a forest giant or family clan around this property basis, or at least seasonal for quite some time. Sure you believe so also.

    • DrAaron

Thank you so much for the details. I know that I speak for a significant portion of the SasChronies that find stories like yours more fascinating than most tales from “researchers”. I would love to know what your grandfather knew. There seems to be a pattern to where and when they will approach the houses. With fruit trees and beef/venison kabobs available, it probably paid off for them to stop by often. Obviously your mother suspected the possible activity as well.

OK on the witches knots and supposed horse mane and tail braids, I just want to let everyone out there know those occur naturally w out the help of a squatch, braider or any supernatural power. I run a100 acre horse ranch and there are some of the 60 horses here that do t get groomed all the time. The wind, dirt, rain and just plain movement can create those squatch braids. Plus, let me tell you this, if a horse ever smelled a squatch or even sensed one, they are a prey animal and would take flight. No bigfoot, and Melba Ketchum needs to know this, creates horse braids or gets near horse. In fact the next time I see one, I will post it. In the equine world, they are known as “wind knots” and if you don’t keep up after a horse’s mane/tail, they get so tangled that they need to be cut out. OK. I just wanted to clear that up.

    • Duke S

I have a friend that owns/ breeds horses for a living and can tell the difference, a rubbing snarl or windbraid is not what Bear and Coonbo are talking about. The person in question will share her story on the next episode of Bigfoot Outlaw Radio, and since she is a friend of mine, I will be on the show as well. Tune in.

  8. David D

That story about the deer being taken out of a pick-up truck, is well documented. Only, the guy that was in charge of picking up road-kill, said it looked more like a gigantic wolf on two legs! Is that the deer-taking event you’re speaking about? I live in S.E. Wisconsin, but spent a few years of my youth in the woods’, in the north. There are for sure, places I wouldn’t go now as an older guy; too slow I guess.

  9. sandy r

Wasn’t the story of Melbum with the horses and other stuff made up by Justin Smeja? I thought I heard her on a show saying she never said those things, that he was the one said that those things about her and it grew from there.

  10. Jane M

Well Duke, why don’t you post some of the real braids and I’ll post some natural ones and we can compare. I saw hers, or I would not have reacted to tbem as being caused by wind, rain and dirt. Horses rub and play and rool too. I’d love to see the difference. Bring it.
