In an unforgettable experience, two young teens from the village of Tuntutuliak have reported seeing the mysterious Hairy Man creature in the outskirts of their village. The girls, both aged 14, were walking to the “Boys’ Pond” where the brother of one of the girls was swimming with a friend. The boys had biked over to the kids’ swimming hole.
It was June 20th, 2014 around 10pm. Nellieann Smith was one of the girls. After she and her friend checked on the boys, they started walking back towards home on the old airstrip. That’s when they saw it, said Nellieann. Her friend saw it first, she said.
“I thought it was my brother’s best friend,” said Nellieann. So she hollered “Hey!” to him.
The creature looked at them. It was tall, big, dark and hairy. The chest area was greyish. They looked at it for approximately 10 seconds, then it walked into the woods in a few very large strides. The sight of the creature frightened the girls and they ran home to warn others about what they had seen.
When Nellieann ran into the house, her mother Elsie was expecting the usual cheerful “Hi Mom!” greeting from her, but not this time. She loudly said “MOM!”
Elsie asked what?
“Hairy Man-amek tangertua! I saw Hairy Man!” she said and told her it was at the Old Airport.
Alarmed, Elsie immediately telephoned the local Tribal Police Officer to ask them to check on the two boys who were out swimming at the Boys’ Pond. She told them that the girls saw a Hairy Man creature at the Old Airport and that it would be good if the police could do a patrol of the area right away.
The TPO, a lady police officer, then went and checked on the boys, but they appeared to be fine. Then she came back to the village and asked Elsie if she could pick up Nellieann and her friend and have them show her exactly where they saw the creature. That’s when they found the droppings right there in the middle of the old airstrip. They also found large footprints, and hair left behind by the creature.
The hair was very dark, black and soft. It had a certain scent to it, said Elsie. It was found right in the area where the girls had seen the creature walk into the trees. Elsie took the hair sample. The droppings were also collected.
Nellieann’s mother Elsie asked that the hair samples be given to Bigfoot experts to determine their origin, if possible.
As for the two boys who were swimming, they were clueless about what Nellieann and her friend had seen. Nellieann said that she is leery of returning to the Old Airport area and cannot help feeling a little afraid. She said no one else reported any sightings after their experience.

Amazing story, and I bet those girls were scared! They did the right thing though, and I commend them for that. Even with all the “friends of the tribe” tales, they still have healthy respect for the Hairy One.
