A listener writes “I have been listening to your show the last few weeks to get through my crazy work schedule and I thought I should return the favor by sharing my encounter with you.

The gist is this: I was around 10 years old walking through the woods near my house with two other friends around my age when a very large, very white creature jumped off a fallen tree on to the trail in front of us. It didn’t do any thing except stand there and look at us. At least I didn’t see it do any thing because as soon as we saw it we all turned tail and ran back home.

I know I had never heard of “Big Foot” at the time and I couldn’t really place the thing I saw any where in the animal kingdom because I lacked the framework to do so. We ended up calling it “The Beast” and talked about it for many years after we had all moved away. Eventually during high-school we all lost touch as we were going to different schools and had different social groups but I’ve been fighting the urge to talk to the one who did see it to see if he remembers it the way I do.

I know this isn’t a long encounter and it is pretty trivial compared to some of the things I’ve heard on your show but it really changed my life. As I got older and eventually saw the Patty film I realized that the whole mythology I had built around “The Beast” was garbage. What I saw wasn’t a monster, it was a Big Foot and other people had seen it too. It was a relief, I’ll tell you that.
