When Monsters Were Real and We Almost Went Extinct

The Why Files writes “Humans vs Superhumans | When Monsters Were Real and We Almost Went Extinct

Humans are the apex predator. Not an apex predator. The apex predator. Other than a handful of bacteria and viruses, there’s pretty much nothing stronger, more intelligent, or more adaptable than Homo sapiens.

Telling the human story from the beginning is difficult.

It was a time when two words defined our world: fear and violence. It was a time when we were not the apex predator; we were their prey.

We emerged from our caves during the day. Hoping we wouldn’t be hunted by the monsters in the woods.

So vicious were these monsters they still live in our myths — and our nightmares. They created a generational trauma embedded into our DNA over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.

These creatures were stronger, faster, and (when it came to combat) more intelligent than we were. It’s a miracle any of us are even here.

This is the story of how modern humans conquered the monsters and won the battle for the world.

But here’s the thing: those fearsome monsters defeated by humans? Were other humans.”

Not one of the better episodes IMO. You look at a real Neanderthal skull and to me the thick flat tooth structure suggests herbivore. No canines for defense or incisors for biting off soft flesh. Brute strength indeed, same brain size or larger, yep.
Pound for pound we are pretty weak compared to Neanderthals or apes but we make up for it in hunting and attacking things, causing fear in the natural world, (that’s why all natural animals run from us).
Neanderthal could’ve easily been a gentle giant (like a gorilla but even more intelligent) and man got his bones broken when they defended themselves from human attack.

Science gets things wrong a lot and has to keep rewriting things. They say red hair is distinctly a human trait, but what about the orangutan I say?

Science, yeah idk, too much tom foolery going on with it. Too many coverups, missing or unreleased documents or ones that have the critical words blacked out. But I don’t sweat it… I have a printer, a wall, a box of colored thumb tacks and a whole big roll of orange yarn… And I ain’t afraid to use it if I have to!

    Actually I’m kidding, I don’t have yarn.🧶

I don’t mean to poop on scientists all together, don’t get me wrong, there are many good and brilliant people in all fields doing their best with what they have available. I just don’t like it for myself or anyone else when I sense darkness working its way into the cracks of humanity.
I see things differently than many people I suppose, but it doesn’t mean I’m always right either.

You make great points. We really don’t know what the neanderthals looked like much less whether they were human predators. Maybe they got wiped out by more violent humans…..we preyed on them…though the “injected” DNA says otherwise. I do think there is a genetic memory/fear of large hairy monsters…….but is that neanderthals or Sasquatch? Its a great theory from Vanderamini whether it is fact or not. We certainly did bottleneck as a species a couple of times……and we had a hard time getting out of Africa…….was that because of a predator?

“Humans are the apex predator. Not an apex predator. The apex predator. Other than a handful of bacteria and viruses, there’s pretty much nothing stronger, more intelligent, or more adaptable than Homo sapiens.”

I just feel you cannot simultaneously believe or know that Bigfoot is real or Werewolves are real, and consider yourself an apex predator. I don’t know how people who might also believe inter or extraterrestrial species may have influenced our culture, technological evolution, science, etc.., also think people who have to call out from work because their chicken fajita was not a lot, but a little bad, and its hurting their tummy could ever think they’re on the top of the food chain. One context for example, Americans are obese, lazy animals that are more motivated for the Super Bowl, then actually doing good in the world or for their own selves financially, physically, mentally, intellectually, etc… Wes on this show literally talks about stupid people, himself being stupid, and sometimes we here Bigfoot encounters from people who are like “IM STILL OUT IN THE WOODS CHASING A 9 FOOT PREDATOR”. WE’RE THE APEX PREDATOR?? HAHAHA. Maybe, but by luck or intentional by outside sources helping.

Most people cry when its 50 degrees outside, but boost their ego’s about being apex predators because some other geniuses created the technology that gives you comfort. Like maybe 2% of the global population are apex predators surrounded by globs of meat struggling to make at least one good decision a week. HAHA. The audacity for the mediocre to assume themselves into an Apex position that was only granted to them by those much more special than they could’ve ever hoped to be is hilarious.

“We emerged from our caves during the day. Hoping we wouldn’t be hunted by the monsters in the woods.”

Most humans did not and never have lived in caves. This is like obvious to anyone who has spent 2 seconds googling human origins. Not even more of our ancestors spent times in caves. This is so easily debunked and wild to say in 2024 that it’s just sad to be honest.
