Werehyena: The Terrifying Shapeshifters of African Lore

Storied writes “African folklore dictates that unlike other werecreatures this monster is an animal that disguises itself in human form. By day it walks the earth nearly indistinguishable from humans, but at night it returns to its true hyena shape to defile graves and eat the flesh within.”

I remember reading about this in one of Peter Capsticks books. He was a PH and I think a game warden for a while in Africa. A friend of his killed some hyenas that were terrorizing a village that the people swore were shapeshifters. Anyway as I recall the other guy found tattoos and beads woven in the hair of the hyenas. Who the heck does that? It might be a tall tale but he seemed to be a fairly honest person. The freakiest thing he wrote about was a troop of man-eating baboons he had to put down.
