A listener writes “Hey Wes, a while back I had emailed you about an incident that happened to me in Minnesota in 2008.
I had another experience that I wanted to run by you. If you could, let me know what you think. I usually bowhunt alone but am considering changing this after hearing some of your shows.
In October 2013, I was sitting in a treestand on a piece of state land in Southeast Minnesota. The stand I was in was in a large cottonwood tree on the edge of a bank with a creek on one side and an old overgrown field on the other side. Deer often cross from the field to the creek/bedding area or vice versa at dawn and dusk.
It was warm and sunny and late afternoon when I heard (400 yards away?) a really loud scream. It sounded like a man with a deep voice had been hurt badly or was very angry. It was only one scream and then silence. I considered going towards the sound in case someone had gotten hurt but then I realized the sound was coming from a thick brushy area and I had no further reference as to how to find the source of the sound.
About that time I saw a doe running away from the general area of the sound, towards me. It made a big ¾ circle in the field so that it was facing the way it had come and was clearly looking at the trail. I was less than 200 yards from this deer and could observe it easily with my binoculars. Nothing further happened until dusk. The doe appeared to bed down where it was.
At dusk I suddenly heard (voices?) and brush moving as something walked from the brushy area to my right, across the creek and into the forest behind me. At the closest they were probably 50 yards from me. The voices sounded like 2 children giggling with each other and there were clearly 2 sources of sound. I could tell because they would sort of talk over each other. This was really creepy because I was on about a square mile of state land, surrounded by other forests, brushland and crop fields, not anywhere near a town where children would be. I saw nobody else at the parking area and did not see/hear any other hunters that day. I heard the same giggling sound 3 times, about 10 seconds apart as the voices first crossed the creek then 2 more times as they moved farther back into the forest.”

A scary moment for sure!

The only thing that bugs me about this is, why wouldn’t you have mentioned this the first time? There could be a reason I guess but it seems odd. I enjoy these stories so much that I recently became a paying member but I don’t buy the vast majority of this stuff. I don’t rule out the possibility of Bigfoot being real and the topic fascinates me but in most of these stories there is a moment when something just doesn’t ring true. Bear and Coonbo are great and seem like genuinely good guys so I hate to think they would make all this stuff up but at the same time it’s almost like they run into Bigfoot on the bread aisle at the grocery store they have so many encounters. I’ll keep on listening because it’s fun but it’s tough for me to put much stock in most of this stuff as much as I would like to believe it’s all true.
Mitchell K
Are you “city folk”
Paul V
Great question Brad. Let’s see what kind of responses you get. I see one already that doesn’t seem too helpful. Maybe Wes can help us out here?
Mitchell K
What question? Why he didn’t mention it earlier? He’s the only person that can answer that so why would anybody guess. About all I gathered was that he more or less is calling most witnesses liars. Or at best not telling the whole truth. And why do bear and coonbo have so many encounters, because they have spent a shitload of time and their life in general in the outdoors looking for these things. Something most city folk don’t do or understand. Hence my question
Kay S
Therefore by your logic there is a possibility that Wes, Woody, Bear, Coombo, Bob Garret and his crew and even a great old gentleman like Bob Gilmlan are liars….. Really???
Kay S
*Garrett* and *Gimlin* Sorry about the spelling, I did not check before posting.

I’ve heard that giggling while kayaking late at night with thick woods on both sides of the river. Very strange.
Brian M
You wouldn’t get far where I live calling people liars all the time, maybe other places are different.
Dave T
Some people just aren’t convinced no matter what. Remember Brad S, even if only one report out of the 50+ thousands that have been made over the years is true, than these creatures exist. Only one time does it have to be true. Come on dude, do you really think all these people made this up? These things aren’t fairytales, they are living breathing beings living in our forests today and have been for a longtime.
Brad S
I appreciate your more measured response, Dave. I’m glad you asked if I really think all these people would make this stuff up. That’s the part that gives me pause. I’m definitely a skeptic. But I don’t think Bigfoot being real is impossible. Yes I do think some people make their encounters up. I mean we can agree on that, right? Some people make things up. The first encounter that I was ever able to not simply dismiss was Mike Wooley from Louisiana. The guy just looked and sounded like what he was saying was true. It was the first time I ever thought, “this guy seems like he’s for real. Could this be true?” That was before I discovered this place. But I ran across other instances of him telling his story and it was always a little different each time. I’m not talking about minor details either. He participated in a show about unknown monsters and the story was so different it almost didn’t even resemble the first version that I heard despite being the same story. Folks like this do a lot of damage to the credibility of this subject. Bear and Coonbo made me wonder if it might possibly be for real and I want to believe them and can’t imagine they would just lie through their teeth but with all the encounters they report, what proof do they have? They say they have pictures that are absolutely convincing. I would love to see those! But they won’t show them? Why? Like I said, I want to believe this stuff but extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
Duke S
2 reasons. 1) no photographic evidence, no matter what the quality, will ever convince some people. 2) good photographs tend to go missing, along with the people who try to show them.
Brad S
I guess that’s possible but when a commenter expressed his skepticism about what the Outlaws were putting out there and asked if he could go out with them to see for himself, this was the response he got; “if you want to sign a release form absolving them of responsibility for your safety something might be arranged. BUT IT WONT BE CHEAP.” I added the emphasis on that last sentence but to me that is both very telling and disappointing. It makes it sound as if it is nothing but enterprise. I personally could be convinced with good quality pictures or video. And I absolutely would go to the woods with one of these groups that claims to always be making contact with sasquatchs. Why not? That’s the sure fire way to see if this is real or not. But the minute they start talking about wanting me to pay them, I’m out. That tells me all I need to know. I enjoyed last Friday’s show very much. But if these guys have all the pictures they say they have, let’s see them. I’m not here to troll. I just don’t understand why this is so hard to prove. And there are calibres of rifles that would kill one of these things easily. I’m not advocating that. But I roll my eyes when people say they had an encounter with one of these things and were too scared to shoot despite it being aggressive. I own a 45-70 that I deer hunt with in more dense areas. It is capable of taking down an elephant. It would knock a bigfoot’s dick in his watch pocket. So I don’t understand how one has never turned up dead. Again, this shouldn’t be so hard to prove. Why would the government go to such Byzantine lengths to cover it up?
Stacey H
Agreed
Stacey H
That is, agree with Duke S.
Brad, I understand that you are a skeptic. I have people in my family who think I’m bonkers to believe in these things, too. My own husband thinks I’m nuts! However, I have seen and heard enough to believe that there is SOMETHING else out there that doesn’t want to be found by US.
Do I believe that every encounter is absolute fact, blow by blow? No, I don’t. Humans a. Lie and b. Embellish and c. Tell the truth to the best they can recall.
Do I think most of the reports on all of the many Bigfoot sites are completely 100% Gods honest truth? No, I don’t. However, I DO think that the vast majority are overall truthful. Why? Because MOST of those who report these encounters have nothing to gain by telling the encounter. Many have held in their story for years because they knew that no one would believe them. Most real encounters are, in fact, traumatic to the person who experienced it, but feared the years of ridicule would be just as traumatic to himself and his family if he brought the story to light.
You also asked about “picture evidence.” Well, let’s take the Patterson-Gimlin footage. It is, to date, the best example of video evidence brought to the public’s attention. Because of the time in which it was shot, most realize that this footage could not be a hoax, due to the complexity of the subject matter. Yet many still doubt its credibility.
There’s many other examples of photographs, footprints( that are not faked- and science has proven that it comes from a more primate type foot), thermal imaging, and yes videos that are brought to light, but there are ALWAYS some that damn even legitimate evidence. Therein lies your answer as to why more pictures (and videos and encounters, etc.) are not brought to light. People have brought the information to the public, and what happens? They are called “liars” and “hoaxers” based upon those who did put those blatant lies and hoaxes out there.
As for Bear and Coonbo, at this point in their lives, they are done trying to prove anything. They are in their retirement years, and enjoying life with their families. They still do the ‘Outlaws podcast, to offer those who want their expertise and enjoy listening to their encounters and advice. They have no one to answer to-period. To imply that they are somehow dishonest, well frankly, pisses me OFF. I will leave my frustration over that comment at that.
I have attempted to explain to you why I think there’s not more of the crystal clear evidence you seek. It’s because they don’t want to be found, and for those lucky few who have had encounters, the aftermath isn’t crystal clear to anyone but the person who had it.
Janetta V
Let’s give the the teller of this good story a big hand, and not to focus so on little Brad S. He does sound citified. Thinking about how if that dear could talk, what it might say? Very odd hearing those voices in the woods. Such weird things go on in the woods, it’s hard to look at the outdoors the way we once did when we were kids. Thanks.
Robert C
I used to live in Minnesota on the Leech Lake reservation. Many reports in that area surrounding Walker.
Brad S
I’m cracking up at the people inferring that I’m a city boy who has never spent time in the woods and the inference that I would get hurt if I came to the country and simply questioned a reported phenomenon that has never been proven. I’m from Georgia folks. The southwestern piney woods part of the state. Ok? I was born here and have lived here my entire life with the exception of my four years in the Marine Corps. I’ve spent my entire life on the water and in the woods. So no, I’m not “city folk.” I would very much like to believe that Bigfoot exists and I don’t rule out the possibility. I’m simply saying that extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof and that has yet to be brought forward despite all of these reported encounters. I love this site and love the stories. I never miss an episode of the Outlaws and have far more in common with Bear and Coonbo than some of you probably do. I just question this stuff. In 38 years of being in the woods I’ve have had a grand total of two experiences that were even remotely odd and I still can’t say that it was Bigfoot because it could have been lots of things. I enjoy the show and will continue to do so. Yall getting offended is unnecessary. I didn’t realize it was heresy to not simply believe without question.
Christy A
Yes, I have to say…I really loved the We Need Help episode, and I AM a believer….BUT WHERE ARE ALL THE PHOTOS.?
Christy A
Ok, so I just checked out the Forum and got lots of answers…….REALLY.? Can NOBODY squeak a few good photos through?
Christy A
I mean, mostly because I’d just love to see them!!

Brad S. If you really want to believe, go on YouTube and do a search for Colorado Sasquatch. He is a guy who has been squatching about a month. He started with the https://www.youtube.com/results?q=projectgoandsee
Which was conceived by Utah Sasquatch (Nathan Reo). Quite a number of us watch this posting area and the idea is let these people do and learn and make mistakes and those of us who “work the group” are there to encourage them and police asshole trolls from belittling them when they do make mistakes. Anyway this guy, Mark, just got a video camera a couple of weeks ago and he already has the most astounding videos of acres and acres of structures, unbelievably huge structures. He also has several video that probably have squatches in them. There is even a guy called Bigfoot Tony who has a video of a biped shaking a tree IN ENGLAND. Anyway follow the group linked above and the two guys named and prepare to be amazed. If you are into scientific/intellectual study and papers, check out a guy called ImpossibleVisits. His book on his savant theories with Bigfoot blew me away! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwib-eCT9pnOAhVLFx4KHeBhAKoQFggcMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FMind-Sasquatch-II-Expanding-Savant%2Fdp%2F1508681074&usg=AFQjCNEIEYj6zzbz8tyNfKbosWuO7q26tQ&sig2=CONQF9Mjp41-KTyyH_zmqw&bvm=bv.128617741,d.dmo —DocLarsen

Sorry, I got Colorado Bigfoot’s name wrong: I called him Colorado Sasquatch in my post above. Either way, here is the link to his channel : https://youtube.com/channel/UCYz8w8bTSENGEie-s1agk8A?feature=watch-vrec

Thank you very much. I am somewhat familiar with this guy but haven
t watched much of him. I’m a skeptic but I read and watch everything I can get my hands on concerning this topic because I truly am fascinated by it. I will check this out further. Thanks again.

Maybe I’ve missed something but insulting someone by calling names like “city folk” seems a bit childish. I thought we’re to respect eachother on here?? If an opinion or question doesn’t jive with your own opinions then let’s have a conversation like adults. Pose said opinion/question respectfully and answer likewise. I’m the mother of 4 teenagers and sometimes reading comments on here is like reffing one of their arguments…no one asked for my opinion, I know, but there it is anyway. If you’re reduced to insults for reasoning it’s sad. If you have to insult someone’s story to prove your point, it’s sad. Take the time to form even a slightly educated question or opinion and the outcome can be amazing. Just mah 2 cents worth…and no, I’m not “city” and yes, I’ve seen a Bigfoot. I come here to hear others experiences and enjoy the different opinions since none of us, in Mr. Germer’s words, have one in our garage to study, we only have circumstantial evidence. I say we hold ourselves to higher standards as to how we treat one another because goodness knows the rest of the world thinks we’re all nuts! Let’s just be respectful nuts…?
