Weird History: Why Were We All Afraid Of Quicksand?

Weird History writes “The threat of quicksand, of slowly sinking into a gritty sludge as it fills your lungs, is inextricably linked with our DNA.

Or at least it feels that way. Quicksand has been around since at least the 1950s, when adventure stories took place in mysterious jungles and deserts.

As those stories fell out of fashion, quicksand narratives kept chugging right along thanks to Disney.”

Of course I was afraid of quicksand as a kid, I can still hear the neighbor kid talking/imagining about not getting stuck in it. I also remember hiding from airplanes pretending they were ufo’s. Unlike today, we were so safe no one locked their doors……..today that is considered wacky.

Back then radiation created giant bugs that attacked people and the reature from the black lagoon……..AND we had flipper to come rescue us and lassie!
