We Thought People Had Surrounded Us

A listener writes “Hi Wes, I live in Washington. I have spent much of my life hunting and camping, etc. I had some strange things happen to me on 2 occasions, both in Snohomish county. 1st was off hwy 2 just west of Mt Index, I ran into something bowhunting that gave an awfull oder (only once), and was staying with me off to the side. When I walked it did, when I stopped it did. I didn’t see it clearly but caught glimpses of it, sometimes it was up really tall, and a couple times I saw it was on the ground like it was belly crawling. Needless to say I felt really scared and turned and walked out. It took me an hour to get back to my jeep, just before I did whatever was following me stopped.

The second encounter I was in the mountains out of Darrington. I was camping with my brother. We had a tarp set up with our cots under it to sleep. In the middle of the night we thought people had surrounded us and was messing with us. They were all around, running and making weird noises. A few times I heard them whistling back and forth, but mostly they were making a clucking sound, like kids do when they are young, but it was a little different, almost like they were communicating. We got scared and started yelling, then put a couple 44 rounds into the ground so they knew we were armed. That’s when the screams started and they backed off. But the rest of the night we had large branches thrown at us. We left most of our gear there and got into my jeep and left before sun came up.

One of the reasons I like list to encounters is I know where they take place. Especially places in California, Washington and Oregon. I’ve been to Mt. Index and Darrington logging rodeo! If that logging rodeo is still happening I recommend it. Hope to hear more !
