A listener writes “Recently discovered the show and definitely enjoying the podcasts. I had an encounter back in 2012. I was 16 at the time. I’ve been hunting since 8-10 years old and very experienced in the woods. This encounter kept me out of the woods for a year or two.

Rough outline:

I was hunting one evening, It was a low evening and everything was unusually quite. So I decided to leave my ground blind roughly 30 minutes before dark. It was an overcast evening so it was already twilight. I quietly exited the blind moved 10 yds to get a better view of the field I was overlooking. My blind is situated roughly 30 yds from the edge of the field.

I was looking up the hill towards the thicket as that is where the deer usually came from. Then I heard a twig snap. I turned and brought my scope up. Thats when I see it on the edge of a woodline approximately 70-80yds out in the field. Its away from me squatted down and fiddling with a stick and something else.

My mind immediately went to black bear. I zoom my crossbow scope in and click the safety off (in case I need to fire). As soon as the audible click of the safety happened it stood up, turned and looked right at me (as if it was staring into my soul). I was freaked out as to how it picked me out almost 80yds away in a woodline. I froze, at first I lowered my bow immediately and closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes I was expecting it to be gone, as I still didn’t believe what I saw.

I looked at him for probably 2-3 minutes, we are just standing there studying each other. I bring my bow up, not to shoot it but to study it. I looked at its face/ whole body. After about 30 seconds I stepped up a step to get a better look and I raised my crossbow again. (It obviously perceived that as a threat).

It emitted a deep, roar/growl/scream. It was loud and so deep I’ve never heard anything close except when alligator hunting in Florida and they bellow. It’s similar in bass, but nowhere as loud.

Immediately following this roar, it charged. I had in my mind that I couldn’t kill it, it was too big and supernatural. As I mentioned, it had roughly 80yds to cover. There was a barbwire fence at the edge of the woods that separates the field. As soon as it charged I ran. As I was running, I hadn’t made it 20 yds if that, I can hear the steps, it’s gaining quick. It hops the fence, i feel the earth thud as if a tree had fallen.

At this point I turn as I know I can’t outrun it. I spin bring the bow to ready and square up to fire. (Making a stand if you will). The animal must have recognized this and veered up the hill into the thicket. It was within 30yds when it took off.

As I sit there shaking, it dawns on me I have to go the way it went to get to my four wheeler. I call my two good friends as they live 5 minutes away. I don’t think anyone else will believe me. They don’t, I walked in a circle with crossbow loaded and flashlight underneath. I make it to the fourwheeler and never unload the crossbow. I haul ass. That’s the end of it.

CREATURE APPEARANCE:
To start off I’m 6ft about 250.

1. TalI – I estimate 8ft tall

2. Wide: I’m two foot across the shoulders, this thing
I would say a minimum of 4ft

3. Color: Jet Black

4. Face: Prominent Eyebrows, big wide nose, mouth with big square teeth and canines. The most prominent to me was its solid black soulless eyes. They still make me shiver to this day.

5. Physique: This thing was built. Big Barrel Chest, Big legs, super long arms hung at/near the knee. Its muscle definition through the hair stood out as an absolutely monstrous being.

6: Speed: This creature moved as if it weighed 100lbs. It covered 80yds by the time I covered 20. I estimate the creature weighed 6-800lbs minimum.
