A listener writes “Wes, I just wanted to tell you about some strange things I’ve experienced. The first was in Missouri, near my alma mater – University of Central Missouri at Pertle Springs park.

I was actually working a post-baccalaureate degree in biology around 2014 and had driven out to Warrensburg to get away after finals and spend some time at the old park where we used to do all of our Army ROTC drills. It was late at night and I was out looking up at the stars. First I saw a couple stars go off and on, and it was a perfectly clear night.

Then, from almost every direction around me it sounded like chimpanzees going crazy. My first thought was they got loose from the zoo. It went on for a few minutes then stopped. I’ve heard that barred owls can sound kind of monkey-ish but I have never heard anything like it before or since. They sounded just like chimps screaming at each other, very loud, and I’m pretty sure even owls don’t sound like that.

The second thing I wanted to tell you about happened while I was going to medical school in Colorado. I was out hiking in Pike National Forest kind of near Deckers. Where I was is not very trafficked but there are a few dirt bikers and other hikers out there every now and then, but not a lot.

Anyways I got off trail just exploring and came across a cattle tank out in the middle of the woods – bizarre. Being curious I lifted up the plywood laying over the top and it was full of water and there was a creature, I’m not sure if it was dead but it wasn’t moving, floating bell up. It was green, was about 6-8” in height and probably the same in width and looked like a giant frog, but it didn’t look like any frog I’ve ever seen and it had whiskers. It freaked me out so much I didn’t even take pictures I just high-tailed it out of there.

The last thing, also happened in Colorado along the Gore trail up to Gore lake. I was with my best friend, an Army buddy I deployed with, my girlfriend and his girlfriend. We were backpacking and had set up camp for the night.

We hadn’t made it to the lake before sunset so were camped about 1/2 mile below the lake. It was dark and we were all sitting around the campfire just resting and talking quietly maybe laughing a little but not loud. All of a sudden my buddy and his girlffriend froze and asked if we heard that. I said “heard what?” He said that woman screaming.

My girlfriend and I both didn’t hear anything. I thought he was playing a joke on me but he wasn’t and he was genuinely scared. My friend is from South Park, Colorado and he never gets scared. So, we called out and yelled – no response. We then went over to a large flat rock outcropping where the sound came from and I had a very foreboding sense that the voice was from a woman who used to live there and liked to sit on that rock. And multiple family members of the Gore family did actually die up there. We never did reconcile where the yell came from or how two people could hear and two not hear when they were within 2-3 feet of each other.”
