Unexplained Activity

A listener writes “Hey Wes, I wanted to fill you in on some activity that I had on some property that I previously owned. I came across your podcast after looking into some strange stuff happening on my property in north central Pennsylvania, I had several acres of land and a cabin.

I purchased the property over 10 years ago and built a small cabin on it. It is very secluded and borders state game lands and state forest. There is over 300,000 acres of wilderness next to the property. The first couple of years started off fine and then one night I went outside very late (nature called about 3:00am) and I heard a very distinctive and nearby wood knock, it was 2 very fast knocks on a tree. I immediately heard it and knew that it was not normal. At the time I was more confused than anything. I had no idea what it was, but had no thought of it being sasquatch or anything like that. I heard of bigfoot when I was younger, but never thought anything about it all of the years when I was camping, hunting, fishing and being in the woods. The next morning I went on with our camping weekend and didn’t think about anymore.

In the summer of 2011 the same exact thing happened. I went outside late at night and this time I heard 3 tree knocks nearby. They were very close and very loud. I knew at this time something was very strange. The hairs on my neck stood up and I quickly went back into my cabin. When I got home, after our weekend trip, I looked into “tree hitting” (that’s what I called it). I found out that it was called “tree knocking” and I found endless information on it. I was still very skeptical of the things that I read, but I guess I did have an open mind to it. My wife is another story, she just laughed and said that I was crazy, so we didn’t discuss it anymore.

In October of 2013 I was bow hunting (I was using a crossbow) at the cabin. I had a doe come in at 30 yards, broadside, and I had a good shot on her. I took it and I saw the bolt hit were it was supposed to. It didn’t pass the entire way through and as she ran off, I saw the fletching and nock in her vitals. I’ve shot many deer in this same manner and knew I had to let them go for a little while. I went back to camp for a cup of coffee and waited for half an hour. It was 9:30am and I went to find this deer. There was plenty of blood and it was very easy to follow. As a matter of fact, I texted my Dad and said we have deer meat! That’s how good this trail was. I followed it for 100 yards and then things got weird. I found my bolt, it was lying in a pool of blood where it looks like this deer laid down. There was no deer, there was no blood anywhere else! I was just sick, I never lost a deer before. I looked around for over 2 hours and did not find a drop of blood anywhere other than the trail into the big pile where it laid down. This made no sense to me and was very upsetting. After I got home I was searching the internet for tracking blood trails, thinking I missed something, and started finding other hunters encounters when they didn’t recover game. Some were speculating that they could have been taken by bigfoot! Honestly, this made me lightheaded and I really started getting freaked out! I guess this was the point where I was hooked and started looking into this subject much more.

The next strange thing was in February 2014, I was at the cabin for the weekend. One of the local neighbors stopped in for a visit. He said that he saw some tracks in the snow that looked like wolf tracks. There are lots of coyotes in the area, but no wolves in PA. He told me where he saw them and I went to check them out. Sure enough, there were canine tracks around 4” long. Our area coyotes are 2-1/2” max. I took some pics of them, but didn’t follow the track line. This was a Saturday morning. Saturday night I heard coyotes at a bait pile behind my cabin (my neighbor puts food scraps out for them) All of a sudden I heard this barking noise that shut the coyotes up immediately! It was the strangest bark that I ever heard. If you would put a really nasty dog into a metal box and bark, that’s what it sounded like. Like a “metallic” bark. That’s the best that I could describe it. My dog was only 4 months old when this happened. She just whimpered, the hair on my neck stood up again. This was a very weird bark/sound that I NEVER heard before and could not find anything on the internet, after the fact. I checked out the bait pile the next morning and there were tracks all over the place, nothing that was definite.

The last thing that was strange was October of 2016. We were at the cabin for a long weekend and we were getting a fire going to toast marshmallows outside. We were talking and I heard these voices in the distant. It sounded like kids carrying on a conversation. By this point, I have listened to many episodes of your podcast and knew this sometimes is reported. I was freaked out, but I guess that I was kind of curious too.

My wife (the TOTAL skeptic) mentioned hearing kids talking. I just smiled and said that I heard them too. Wes, we are literally in the middle of nowhere, there are NO kids.

We had the cabin on the market since 2014 (not because of this issue, we just want to move on to something different). We did end up selling it this year, so it finally feels like it is over. I’m just thankful that there was nothing aggressive and no visual encounters. (If that’s what this was, maybe just my imagination. And I’m okay with that!)

After the research that I did, I found sasquatch reports in the general area and even some dogman reports within the past year. I don’t honestly know what’s going on in the area but I’m glad that we are not there anymore.

Thanks you Wes for doing what you are doing. I get some heat from my wife for checking out your blog regularly, but your site had been my “go to” to keep my sanity in the past couple of years. I know something is going on in that area, but I honestly didn’t want to see anything and I’m glad that we got out of there before we did.

Keep doing what you are doing.”

Sounds like you for sure fed a squatch family that day! Thanks for sharing your experiences, PA Seems to be a pretty active area for both squatch & dogmen. What state land tract was it near? Thanks again!
