A listener writes “In the Fall of 2017 my son and I moved onto my family’s property after an ugly separation with my son’s mother. Almost immediately I noticed things were a lot more lively at night around the house. In the decades of visiting the property no deer have ever made our patch of woods their home. But these deer didn’t just live in our woods they stayed near the house at night, sometimes just hanging out in the gravel parking lot next to the vehicles. I would walk out many nights and they would just stand there at look at me never running away even though I was sometimes less that 15 yards from them, I found that very odd. This kind of behavior went on for about 3 weeks and then they were gone from the house but not the woods.
Now I have never been scared of the woods at any point of my life and one of my favorite pastimes in sitting at the bonfire on a clear chilly night and just watching the stars, often alone. I also enjoy sitting out in the rec room and playing pool and nerding it up on my PC with some friends. Unfortunately the rec room has no restroom so us guys often walk out to the yard and go pee in the grass or on a tree (good to be a man).
So my first experience happened in early November 2017 late at night. I was playing a video game in the rec room and had to pause to take a leak. Like many nights I walked outside to the end of the sidewalk at the rear of the rec room and started to do my business. To just make things simple the rec room is a large pull-barn that has a 2 car garage on the south side of the building and a man-door on the west side of the building, there is a 2nd man-door to the rec room 20ft away on the west side, both doors with flood lights above them. The door to the garage always has the flood light on. That light puts off enough light to light up about 30 yards in all directions. So I easily make my way around the sidewalk at night. So I am standing at the Northwest corner on the pull-barn just doing my business when I not only hear but feel foot falls running across from east to west about 20 yards from me just outside of the light of the flood light. The sound of the foot falls were pretty loud but the fact that they made the ground tremble beneath my feet had me doing a dance causing me to pee all over myself. Whatever this thing was had run about 40 yards in less than 4 seconds with only about 10 to 12 steps. Now it broke out in full stride from a tree line on the east side of the yard running clear through the firepit area the has many trees around it but I keep the area manicured to a tree line on the west side of the yard. I heard it as it hit the thick woods where it crashed around in there for just a couple seconds before it went dead quiet. I was not sticking around to try and find out where it was going or what it was doing. My heart was beating out of my chest and I could feel my pulse in my ears, I got in got inside, locked the door turned on the 2nd flood light and slapped my .45 to my waist. The rest of the night I spent watching windows since I have no blinds or curtains until I finally feel asleep. That about does it for that experience.
This is an experience my older brother had only a couple weeks later while bow hunting in a large forest just north of our property, only about a 10 minute drive on the side-by-side. My older brother Matthew is a very quiet and conservative guy, he doesn’t really talk much about anything beyond guns and politics, he is very much a Missourian with his Show Me mentality. So his story starts in the early morning hours on a Saturday. Like most hunters he likes to get in the woods before sun up. So he gears up and he heads to his spot that is only about a 10 minute drive from the house. His spot is ground level on the edge of a tree line the overlooks a small field that is about 100 yards wide with another tree line opposite of him. Now I am going to backpaddle here now that you have an idea of the geography of his hunting area and the kind of guy he is. I am going to start where he brings me into the story.
I wake up to my brother Matthew quietly but with urgency calling my name to get up. (Matthew) “Bradley, get up!”…….”Bradley, get up!” I open my eyes and say “what’s up?” (Matthew) “Hey get up. Something scared me out of the woods.” My brother has never come to me like this before so I knew something must have really shaken him. I say to him, “What do you mean something scared you out of the woods, like what?” (Matthew) “I don’t know but it was not happy I was there. Whatever it was it growled at me for 20 minutes and made a sound I have never heard before.” I asked him if he thought it was a coyote or a mountain lion because we do have many reports of the being in the area over the past 20 years and he has had one under his tree stand before. (Matthew) “It was no mountain lion and if it were a coyote it had to be a 500+ pound coyote. The lungs on it had to be massive because it would growl for a long time and I could feel it. I was sitting at the base of a tree that was wider than me and it was about 50 feet back in the woods behind me. It must have growled at me for about 10 minutes and never moved. Then it made this really strange sound that was deafening that shook me. I was scared stiff and all I had was my crossbow and the ATV was parked about 100 yards down the field. After is made that sound it was quiet for about 20 seconds. Then I heard the same sound come from the tree line across the field from me just up the hill. I seriously couldn’t move and I didn’t know what to do. About 1 minute after the one across the field from me made that sound the one behind me started to growl again, but this time it was a lot closer, like 20ft or so. It growled at me for another 10 minutes. By then the sun was up and I felt like I could make a run for the ATV. So I stood up, looked around for a minute and took off running. Nothing chased me, I saw nothing but of course when I got to the ATV I had to turn it around to leave so the had me freaked out.” I told my brother that I would have pooped myself and I asked him to make the noise for me. As I said before, Matthew is very quiet and very conservative, he was not going to perform for anyone. He was most definitely genuine in his account and I know he doesn’t even have a white lie on his conscience. I took him out to my computer and I jumped on YouTube and I played a bunch of deer calls, coyote calls, mountain lion calls, fox calls, bear calls, bobcat calls. We pretty much listened to everything that could possibly be in our area. He did say the Buck had a call that sounded similar but he said it was way too loud and it had more of a roar sound mix into it. So then we listened to Bigfoot calls but that was a dead end as well. After talking about it for about 30 more minutes we decided to say “screw the game wardens” and we both took long rifles, shotguns, and pistols and headed to the spot. We poked around the woods for about an hour. Whatever was there was long gone and it left no trace. We did place about 6 trail cams in the area but he never went back to get them until last year. He didn’t say if he had anything on them. After it was all said and done I had told him about my experience on our property just a couple weeks before. That definitely got his wheels turning that this Bigfoot nonsense I have been a fan of since I was 4 may not me such nonsense. That is about all I can recall of his account.
This email is becoming pretty lengthy so if you are interested in talking to me about my experience and my brothers I can go into the 3 more accounts.”

I wonder if the growl sound resembled an alligator. Apparently alligators can generate infra-sound and you can see the water ripple above them when they do it.

I’d like to know what was on the trail cams
